The National Family Health Survey (2020-21) highlights that over 30% of women in India aged 15 to 24 do not use hygienic methods of protection during their menstrual cycles. An alarming estimate suggests that each year, 20% of girls in India discontinue their education due to a lack of access to quality menstrual products. Additionally, 40% of girls are reported to miss school days during their periods, a situation exacerbated by the diminished accessibility of menstrual products in lower-income families.
Even in urban areas like Mumbai, the gap in awareness and access to menstrual hygiene remains stark. The challenge is compounded by the cost implications of single-use sanitary napkins, which, despite being a necessity, become a significant recurring expenditure. Many young girls either make do with inadequate alternatives or use single-use sanitary pads less frequently than recommended, adversely affecting their health.

Arthat Studio’s sets up its latest sculpture at ONGC’s IPSHEM campus

The sculptures are created from scrap metal sourced from ONGC’s operations, inspired by the theme of Samudra Manthan (Churning of the Ocean), stand as powerful symbols of the company’s ethos and services. Each sculpture intricately captures the essence of the mythological tale, depicting celestial beings and demons engaged in the cosmic endeavour to extract the elixir of life – oil.
Meticulously crafted by skilled artisans, showcase the fusion of creativity and sustainability, as they repurpose industrial waste into stunning works of art. Just as the Devas and Asuras worked in harmony to churn the ocean, ONGC harnesses cutting-edge technology and expertise to extract oil responsibly, ensuring the vitality of communities and industries.

Bengaluru, India, May 7, 2024: The Micron Foundation has partnered with the United Way of Hyderabad (UWH) to provide scholarships to 60 of the brightest students from India’s leading engineering institutions, offering them a path towards academic excellence and a brighter future. These scholarships, which will be awarded as part of the University Research Alliance Micron (URAM) initiative, help ensure that each student has an opportunity to unlock their potential, pursue their chosen fields of study, and embark on a fulfilling career journey.
The scholarships are specifically tailored to support students in their B.Tech (Bachelor of Technology) third semester and M.Tech (Master of Technology) first year, in the fields of Computer Science Engineering, Electronics & Electrical Engineering, and Electronics & Computer Engineering. Among the 60 recipients,16 are women, and 10 are part of the Persons with Disabilities (PwD) category, reflecting Micron’s dedication to inclusivity and the breadth of talent nurtured by the scholarship program.

With a value of up to ₹80,000 per student, the scholarships aim to alleviate deserving students from financial burden, empowering them to pursue their academic aspirations with renewed vigor.
