India Making Significant Progress in Liver Disease Treatment, Says Renowned Liver Expert Dr. Patrick S. Kamath

Kochi, 12-08-2024: Dr. Patrick S. Kamath, a world-renowned liver specialist from the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, USA, has praised India’s advancements in liver disease treatment, stating that the country is on the right track. Speaking at the 32nd Annual Scientific Meeting of the Indian National Association for the Study of the Liver (INASL) 2024 in Kochi, Dr. Patrick S. Kamath emphasized that while India has made significant strides in aligning its liver disease treatment with global standards, there is still room for further progress, which he believes will be achieved in the coming years.

Dr. Patrick S Kamath

Dr. Kamath highlighted the insidious nature of liver disease, describing it as a “silent villain” that often shows no outward symptoms for years. By the time symptoms do appear, the liver may have already sustained significant damage, leading to conditions like cirrhosis, where the liver loses its ability to heal itself, often necessitating a liver transplant. To prevent this, he emphasized two critical measures: maintaining a healthy weight and completely abstaining from alcohol. Additionally, he stressed the importance of proper treatment and management of viral diseases that can affect the liver.

Dr. Patrick S. Kamath is also known for his contribution to the development of the MELD (Model for End-Stage Liver Disease) score, a prognostic tool used globally to assess the severity of liver disease. Originally developed by him at the Mayo Clinic, the MELD score has become a crucial tool in managing liver disease patients worldwide.

The INASL 2024 conference, which is being held in Kochi from August 7 to 10, has attracted significant participation, with around 200 panel members from both India and abroad, and over 1,500 internationally renowned expert representatives. The event is a key platform for discussing the latest advancements and challenges in the field of hepatology.

Ice Make Refrigeration Limited Reports 7.58% Growth in Revenue for Q1 FY 2025

Hyderabad, August 12, 2024: Ice Make Refrigeration Limited, a leading innovator in cooling solutions and a prominent manufacturer of over 50 types of refrigeration equipment in India, has announced its financial results for the first quarter of FY 2025, ending on June 30, 2024.

Mr Chandrakant Patel, Chairman and Managing Director, Ice Make Refrigeration Ltd.

The company reported a consolidated revenue growth of 7.58%, reaching Rs 85.33 crore, compared to Rs 79.31 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal year. However, due to increased costs related to strategic recruitments and other operational expenses, consolidated net profit for Q1 FY25 declined by 32% to Rs 3.64 crore, down from Rs 5.36 crore in the same quarter of the previous fiscal year.

During the quarter, Ice Make recorded an EBITDA of Rs 6.13 crore, compared to Rs 8.34 crore in the same period last year, with an EBITDA margin of 7.19%, compared to 10.52% in the corresponding period of the previous year. The non-annualized earnings per share (EPS) for Q1 FY 2025 stood at Rs 2.35.

Commenting on the results, Mr. Chandrakant Patel, CMD of Ice Make Refrigeration Limited, said, “Despite the challenges this quarter, we achieved steady revenue growth. However, an increase in salary expenses due to strategic recruitments for new projects, higher travel costs for project machinery abroad, and the impact of the election code of conduct on April and May business activities resulted in lower profitability. Our focus on innovation and efficiency will drive stronger financial performance in the coming quarters helping the company reach Rs 500 cr. revenue milestone this fiscal. With India’s growth forecasted at over 7% by the IMF, the long-term prospects for our business are promising. We have a robust order book and leads totalling Rs 98 crore, positioning us to sustain an annual growth rate of approximately 25-30%.”

Mr. Patel also emphasized the company’s comprehensive presence across all refrigeration segments, including Cold Room Storage, Ammonia Refrigeration, Industrial Refrigeration, Commercial Refrigeration, and Transport Refrigeration. He stated, “With the rising demand for innovative cooling and cold chain storage solutions in India and abroad, Ice Make is strategically poised to capitalize on these opportunities.”

Union Minister Piyush Goyal Announces Diamond Imprest Licence at IIJS Premiere 2024

National, 12 August 2024: Shri Piyush Goyal, Hon’ble Minster of Commerce & Industry, Govt. of India, announced the introduction of the Diamond Imprest Licence during his interactive session at the 40th edition of India International Jewellery Show 2024, the flagship show of the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) held at the Bombay Exhibition Centre (BEC), NESCO, Goregaon. The Diamond Imprest Licence will benefit MSME exporters, which comprise a large portion of India’s gem & jewellery exporters.

SHRI GOYAL

GJEPC has been recommending this policy initiative for a long time. The Diamond Imprest Licence ensures that Indian diamond exporters above a certain export turnover threshold will be allowed to import at least 5%, (if not 10% as it was earlier) of the average export turnover of preceding three years. This will provide level playing field for Indian MSME diamond exporters with that of their larger peers. It will stop flight of investment of Indian diamantaires to diamond mining destinations. It will give more employment in terms of diamond assorters and processing of semi-finished diamonds in the factories.

Shri Goyal was addressing a packed house of gem & jewellery exporters in the presence of Shri Vipul Shah, Chairman, GJEPC, Shri Kirit Bhansali, Vice Chairman, GJEPC; Shri. Siddharth Mahajan, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Govt. of India; Shri Dnyaneshwar B. Patil – IAS, Zonal Development Commissioner, SEEPZ-SEZ, Mumbai; Shri R K Mishra, Additional DGFT; Shri Nirav Bhansali, Convener, National Exhibitions, GJEPC; Shri Sabyasachi Ray, ED, GJEPC, members from the trade, media, ladies and gentlemen. Manisha Gupta, Commodities Editor, CNBC TV18 Group was moderating this session with the Minister.

Shri Goyal also promised the gem & jewellery trade that since GJEPC’s IIJS Premiere is facing shortage of space for exhibitors, he will think of way to create 2 million sq ft exhibition space for IIJS in the future.

Shri Goyal said that the Union Budget had cut duty rates of Gold, Silver and platinum, which was hurting the vibrant gem & jewellery industry and job creation.

“Gold and jewellery will increasingly come through official channels and our workforce will get job orders. India’s domestic market is resilient and growing fast to compensate for the loss in exports due to global recession. I urge gem & jewellery exporters to be positive,” he said.

Shri Goyal said, “Indian Government is engaging with G7 actively and several relevant Union Ministers are very much involved in negotiations. We have been having extensive discussions with EU Ministers and Commissioner. There are issues of transparency, data protection and costs. But this is the first time that India is negotiating from a position of strength with the G7.”

“We are hoping that Mumbai or Surat can have a centre similar to the one in Antwerp. We are also in talks in De Beers Kimberley Process to segregate diamonds and trace their origins. However there is no technical mechanism and no protocol in this regard and we are jointly working towards this,” Shri Goyal said.

“In terms of FTAs, we follow consultative process. Many discussions are happening with developed countries and with continents. However it is difficult to predict timeline as discussions evolve over a period of time. In the case of ECTA with Australia and CEPA FTAs with the UAE, we were able to protect all our sensitive sectors. We conclude only once we have a fair equitable and balanced approach unlike in the past,” Shri Goyal said.

In the FTA with Australia, we got double taxation removed for Indian IT sector. In case of Europe’s EFTA (Switzerland, Iceland, Norway and Liechtenstein), they have committed to invest $100 bn in India and create 1 million jobs.

“Indian exporters need to create greater degree of value addition due to recession in developed countries. The world is not looking for high cost products or jewellery but intricate products with diligent workmanship, exquisite artistry and bespoke handmade jewellery. Discerning customers will always seek value for money,” Shri Goyal said.

Mr. Vipul Shah, Chairman, GJEPC, said, “Shri Piyush ji, your relentless dedication and visionary leadership have resulted in signing of FTAs like India-UAE CEPA, India-Australia ECTA, India-EFTA TEPA. It was on your insistence that a series of meeting with stakeholder and industry leaders were done to take industry onboard before finalising these FTAs. The India-UAE CEPA has resulted in a strong growth of 40% gem & jewellery exports to UAE. Sir, we are looking forward to the signing of India-UK, India-EU and India-Canada FTAs in near future under your leadership which will give exports big boost. We are also encouraged with your renegotiations of old FTAs with ASEAN countries and more. “

The Common Facility Centre (CFC) at SEEPZ trains 300 physically challenged girls and boys as of now but this will impart training to 1500 special youngsters every year and will get placement from the 10,000 plus members of GJEPC.

Showcasing “Brilliant Bharat” theme this year, IIJS Premiere 2024 show dates are: 8-12 August at JIO World Convention Centre, Mumbai and 9-13 August at Bombay Exhibition Centre, NESCO Goregaon, Mumbai. IIJS Premiere 2024 will have a total exhibition area of 135,000 sq. mt. (1.45 million sq. ft.), which is much higher than that of the prominent comparable shows in the western world. With over 3,600 stalls and 2,100 exhibitors, IIJS Premiere is expected to attract over 50,000 buyers from across India and more than 2000 buyers from over 60 countries. IGJME Premiere 2024 (Machinery and Allied Expo) from 9th to 13th August at the Bombay Exhibition Centre.

Profile of The Promoters

The promoters of Bodhi Tree-India are Deepika Chadha and Neha Mahidhar. Friends first, then business partners. Classmates from school in Jabalpur, both chose to study design. While reconnecting in Bombay, it was only in 2011 that they decided to celebrate their roots and the sense of colour and design they grew up observing.

The Road We Travel

BODHI TREE

Their appreciation is for the true designers – the various craftspeople who they choose to work with at the grassroots. Their journey begins with interaction with the weavers to plan fabric for the season. The symphony of colours and textures comes in later as they watch the plan come alive on the loom.

Their stance has been and will remain to make handloom versatile and appealing to modern styles and silhouettes. The collections are reflections of their explorations… till so far, they have travelled to Benaras, Chanderi, Maheshwar, Bhuj, Bengal, Andhra, Bhandara, Champa, and with many more to go.

Saajha Sindoor’s Sangita Ghosh Reveals Why She Shuns Social Media: ‘I Don’t Like to Put Myself Out There

In today’s era, social media reigns supreme. Everyone is active, engaging with many people and putting themselves out there. For actors, it’s especially important as it allows them to stay connected with their fans even on busy days. However, some actors are present on social media but remain relatively inactive. Actress Sangita Ghosh, currently captivating audiences as Saroj, a stepmother, in Sun Neo’s Saajha Sindoor, is one of them. The talented actress, who boasts a large fan base, recently shared her reasons for keeping a low profile.

SS - Sangita Ghosh

Opening up about keeping a low-profile, Sangita Ghosh shared, “I think I’m not too inclined to constantly engage on social media. I don’t like to put myself out there too much. There are pros and cons to sharing too much of yourself online. When you do, people have the chance to comment and judge you. While it may not make a huge difference, being always available online means there’s no element of mystery; people know everything about you. I prefer to keep my life private and only share work-related information. I’m not someone who creates dancing reels or engages in similar activities. Hats off to those who do take the time to be active online, but that’s just not for me.”

She added, “I am on social media, but I’m not completely absent. Occasionally, I engage and answer a few questions. I also interact with print media and similar platforms. I prefer to keep it that way and not make myself too available. My focus is on my family, my work, and my fans. I love my fans and always say they are my lifeline—they are a big part of who I am and the opportunities I’ve received. However, I also like to maintain a certain distance and not be overly accessible. That’s how I prefer to manage things.”

Saajha Sindoor follows Phooli (Stuti Goyal), a young woman deemed an unmarried widow after her groom dies on their wedding day. As Phooli navigates the trials of her fate, viewers are left wondering how destiny will shape her journey and those around her. With a stellar cast, including Sangita Ghosh, Sahil Uppal, Neelu Vaghela, and Krutika Desai in pivotal roles, the show promises a enticing portrayal of emotions and relationships amidst the grandeur of Rajasthan’s aristocracy.

Candidates for admission to the MBBS, BDS, and BSc (Nursing) programs should get ready for a demanding and fiercely competitive selection process, since the process is scheduled to start on August 14, 2024. The goal of the NEET UG 2024 counseling process is to guarantee quick and easy seat distribution in India’s medical and dental institutes. August 14 is when the Round 1 registration period will open and last through August 21, 2024. Candidates must make sure all the paperwork is in place and finish their registration on the official MCC website within this time.

Candidates will have the chance to select their courses and colleges from August 16 to August 20. The decisions made in this phase will have a big influence on the seat allocation, thus you must approach it carefully. Following the locking of the choices, seat allocation will be processed by the MCC on August 21 and 22, with the results being declared on August 23. Those who are chosen for the program must report to the universities of their choice between August 24 and August 29, 2024. This is a crucial step since you risk losing your seat if you don’t report within the allotted time. For candidates who enrolled after the first allotment, there will be a verification process after the reporting phase, which is set for August 30 and August 31.

Key Highlights and Important Dates

For the fifteen percent All India Quota (AIQ) seats in government medical colleges, the MCC will handle the NEET UG counseling. Furthermore, this counseling process will fill all available seats at esteemed universities such as Aligarh Muslim University, Banaras Hindu University, Jamia Millia Islamia, and ESIC Dental College and Hospital. The counseling procedure will consist of four rounds, one of which will be a stray vacancy round, as per a ruling from the Supreme Court. The completion of the process is scheduled for October 24, 2024. With numerous rounds, the goal is to guarantee that every seat is taken and that students have more than one chance to get admitted.

Increased Opportunities for Aspiring Medical Students

In 2024, 710 Indian medical institutions would provide approximately 1.10 lakh MBBS seats through the NEET UG Counseling. This year’s counseling process is the largest yet, with 21,000 BDS seats available, along with seats for Ayush and nursing courses. It is because of the government’s concentrated efforts to enhance medical education in India that there is now more availability of seats. Official statistics show that the number of medical colleges in India has increased significantly—from 387 in 2014 to 731 in 2024—a huge 88 percent growth. In line with this, the number of MBBS seats has surged by 118 percent, rising from 51,348 in 2014 to an astounding 1,12,112 in 2024.

Government Initiatives and Future Outlook

The government’s larger plan to meet the nation’s rising need for healthcare professionals includes the major development of medical education infrastructure in India. In the Rajya Sabha, Anupriya Patel, the Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, emphasized these advancements and emphasized the government’s commitment to expanding access to medical education for everyone. The increase of medical schools and seats attempts to meet the country’s healthcare needs by creating a larger workforce of trained medical professionals, in addition to providing additional options for aspirant physicians. Given that India is still dealing with issues like an aging population, rising rates of chronic illness, and a burgeoning population, this growth is very important.

As NEET UG Counseling 2024 draws near, applicants need to be aware of the process and ready to handle its complexities. The government’s commitment to improving medical education in India is evidenced by the growth of medical schools and seats. Prospective medical students must approach this chance with diligence and hope, understanding that although the road ahead will be difficult, it also holds the possibility of a fulfilling healthcare career.
