TERI’s role in the context of the current world, as an organization of this stature, should focus on climate change, energy transition, carbon markets, artificial intelligence with respect to energy transition and energy mapping of what is happening on ground,” he further added.

The rest of the day featured a series of program presentations covering a wide range of topics crucial to sustainable development. These presentations underscored TERI’s multidisciplinary approach and its commitment to addressing various facets of sustainability.

Galen Fries’s New Book Up To Speed

Galen Fries’s New Book Up To Speed

Tacoma, WA, June 25, 2024 — Fulton Books author Galen Fries, a retired sergeant first class who served for thirty years in both the active-duty Army and the Army National Guard, as well as a certified military instructor and a certified wildland firefighter, has completed his most recent book, “Up To Speed: A Preppers Guide”: a thorough discussion about the proper steps one should take in order to be ready for disasters, man-made or otherwise.

An avid hiker, shooter, motorcycle rider, and boater, author Galen Fries has spent a lifetime outside building a healthy respect for nature. Having a family consisting of a wife, three kids, three step kids, and multiple grandchildren, he feels his family is an extremely important part of his life. Although Galen doesn’t consider himself a survivalist, when his military unit took the Y2K threat to the infrastructure seriously, he recognized the importance of preparing oneself and one’s family for undesirable situations. Having had countless conversations with friends, coworkers, and loved ones about being ready for unexpected and undesirable events, he decided to finally write it all down, hence “Up to Speed: A Prepper’s Guide.”

“The book has been carefully broken up into levels of importance,” writes Fries. “It begins by addressing a survival mindset. It then goes on to discuss ways we can set ourselves up for success when it to comes to reuniting with loved ones, having a home to come home to, and finally what we should consider as we step out of our homes in order to keep our families safe. ‘Up to Speed’ tries to take the daunting task of protecting what is truly important to us and break it down into small manageable pieces.

“This is not a survivalist book. This is just a discussion and shouldn’t be considered the end-all in preppers’ manuals. In it you will find references to many other books that will supplement your preparedness library.”

Author Kelvin Rankin’s New Book Rankin v. Rankin

Author Kelvin Rankin’s New Book Rankin v. Rankin

Vicksburg, MS, June 25, 2024 –Kelvin Rankin, an Army veteran who holds two master’s degrees in divinity from Wesley Biblical Seminary and a joint degree in workforce education leadership from Mississippi and Alcorn State Universities, has completed his new book, “Rankin v. Rankin: A Male’s Perspective of an Elongated Divorce and Custody Fight(s) within the Mississippi Judicial System”: a riveting and candid exploration of the triumphs, biases, legalities, and “gray areas” inherent in contested divorces and parental custody disputes.

“Through the experience of the prementioned case and its articulation, men should be able to have a foundation to realistically understand an ensuing divorce or custody fight for themselves or provide effective support to a colleague,” writes Rankin. “Secondly, women who read this ‘case study’ should consider advocating for truth related to divorce and paternal rights as an ‘equal fight under the law,’ not intertwined with other social issues or a play in support of femineity. Although this published work is from a male’s perspective, both estranged husbands and wives, courts, and child advocacy institutions can glean knowledge from ‘Rankin v. Rankin’ by understanding parts of the previously unknown backstories.”

The Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure and the Government of Odisha Release Recommendations to Ensure Post-disaster Resilience of the Power Sector in Coastal Areas

25th June 2024 New Delhi, Delhi, India The Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI) and the Government of Odisha jointly launched a report, ‘Disaster Resilient Power Systems for Odisha’. The recommendations will enable the necessary steps for investments, risk-informed governance, and capacity building for disaster resilience.

Heavy rains, flooding, and severe waterlogging impact the uninterrupted functioning of critical power infrastructure in coastal regions during disasters. Disruptions result in high maintenance costs, asset loss, socio-economic losses, crippled emergency services and delayed response.

CDRI’s report on resilient power infrastructure lays out a methodology for enhancing power sector resilience in coastal regions, particularly those affected by cyclones, hurricanes, and floods.

Key recommendations include enhancing codes and standards for wind zones, integrating risk assessments into financial planning, and incorporating the resilience component in policy, training, and capacity-building initiatives among others.

Amit Prothi, Director General, CDRI, said, “The resilience of the power sector to extreme weather events is pivotal in safeguarding lives and livelihoods, particularly those in vulnerable regions. Recommendations from our study on climate and disaster resilient power systems can be applied across coastal regions to enable disaster resilient power infrastructure.”

Sharing his experience in combating the cyclones and challenges in restoration, Pradeep Kumar Jena, Chief Secretary, Government of Odisha said, “I urge officials to make infrastructure resilient. This beginning by CDRI will help other coastal states in India and many countries to come up with disaster resilient power infrastructure.”

The report is the outcome of an extensive study by CDRI in engagement the Government of Odisha and in collaboration with the Grid Corporation of Odisha (GRIDCO), Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA), Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Limited (OPTCL), Tata power distribution companies (i.e., TPNODL, TNSODL, TPCODL, TPWODL) and the Department of Energy, Govt. of Odisha.
