Holi Self-Care Tips: 5 Things to Keep in Mind

As Holi, the festival of colors, draws near, let’s remember to splash not just hues but also self-care into the mix of festivities! Amidst the playful chaos of vibrant colors and giggles, let’s sprinkle some mindful moments for ourselves. So, here are some simple and fun Holi self-care tips to ensure you stay as radiant as the hues of the season! From hydrating with refreshing drinks to indulging in soothing skincare, let’s celebrate joyfully and responsibly, ensuring that the colors of Holi leave us feeling vibrant inside and out! Go on and enjoy yourself with ease. Here are 5 self-care tips to ensure a hassle-free Holi season:
Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate:
Amidst all the excitement and fun, it’s crucial to stay hydrated. Drinking plenty of water not only helps to flush out toxins from the body but also keeps you energized throughout the day. Additionally, indulging in hydrating beverages like coconut water or herbal teas can replenish the electrolytes lost during the festivities.
Post-Holi Cleanup Made Easy:
After a day of colorful fun, the last thing you want to do is spend hours scrubbing off Holi colors from your clothes. A reliable washing machine will help you with efficient cleaning, making the post-Holi cleanup a breeze. Thanks to the Pre-Soak feature in the Bosch front-load washing machines, you can simply set your laundry to soak before the wash cycle begins. This automated soaking phase, lasting from 15 minutes up to 1.5 hours depending on the laundry load and fabric type, ensures effective stain removal. So, while your clothes are being pre-soaked, you can take some time to relax or attend to other tasks. Once the cycle is complete, your garments will come out fresh, vibrant, and free from stubborn stains, ready for your next adventure.
Protect Your Eyes, Skin and Hair:
Holi colors can be harsh on your skin, hair, and even your eyes. Before stepping out to play, apply a generous amount of coconut oil or any other non-greasy moisturizer to your skin and oil to your hair. This creates a protective barrier, making it easier to wash off the colors later without causing any damage. Additionally, consider wearing sunglasses or protective eyewear to shield your eyes from any stray splashes of color, ensuring a safe and enjoyable celebration.
Use Organic Colours:
Embrace eco-friendly organic colors, ensuring a safe and gentle celebration for both you and the environment. By opting for these colors, you’re not only protecting your skin from any allergic reactions but also reducing harm to the environment, making your festivities more sustainable.
Stay Comfortable and Protected:
Opt for loose, long-sleeved cotton clothing during Holi celebrations. Not only does cotton allow your body to breathe freely, keeping you comfortable during all the festivities, but it also protects you from the sun, sweat, and tanning. Enjoy the day without worrying about discomfort or exposure to harsh elements by dressing smartly in breathable cotton attire.

World Water Day 2024: Collective Action to Mitigate Water Scarcity
By Dr Ajith Chandran, Chair – IET Water Working Group
On this World Water Day 2024, we confront the uncomfortable situation of India’s stark water challenge, a situation of water scarcity and deluge, often in the same place. Some of the simple technologies to reduce water wastage at home are:

1) Water-Efficient Appliances- like washing machines and dishwashers, Low-flow Faucets and Shower-heads. These keep the pressure but use less water,
2) Water-Saving Aerators – Can be fit on existing taps to reduce water
3) High-Efficiency Toilets (or at least have tank-inserts, that reduce the amount of water flushed), mopping machines
4) Smart Water Meters – Providing real-time data that helps improve water use
5) Smart Leak Detection Systems – Alerting homeowners about leaks
6) Xeriscaping- Using drought resistant plants and mulch to reduce garden water requirements
7) Drip Irrigation Kits- Efficiently delivering water to plants, minimising wastage.
Individuals must realise the reality of water scarcity and do whatever is possible to conserve water. While continuing to pressure the local government for improved facilities, I would also suggest that we reduce dependence on government, and depend on one’s own capabilities and the local community. Make sure to have adequate provisions for water storage, and build rainwater harvesting tanks, grey-water recycling systems, and permeable pavements that help groundwater recharge. Do these conservation activities individually or collectively at the community or RWA level.
The largest consumer of water is farming, with approximately 70% of water going to the sector, which is not only subsidised but often very unregulated and inefficient. What can an ordinary person do? Increase the diet of pulses, potatoes, and root vegetables with a lower water production requirement. Market demand will drive farmers’ increased production in that direction. India has a massive rice surplus, with around 62 million tonnes, and some studies estimate that a minimum of 2500 litres of water is required to produce 1 kg of rice.
Today along with government, civil society and individual action, we also need the corporate sector to be a partner to sustainable solutions to complex environmental challenges. Let’s conserve, innovate, and ensure that every drop counts. Together, we can secure a sustainable future where clean water flows freely for generations to come.

Empowering India’s Workforce for the Future: ASDC’s Role in Driving Skilling Initiatives for New Automotive Technologies
Amidst the recent announcement of the Electric Vehicle (EV) policy by the Government, signalling a decisive move towards sustainable transportation, and the introduction of the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme to bolster the automotive sector, the Automotive Skills Development Council (ASDC) emerges as the driving force behind India’s journey towards electric mobility. ASDC’s unwavering commitment to equipping India’s workforce with the requisite skills is poised to catalyse this transformative shift in the automotive landscape.

The forecast by the NITI Aayog indicating a significant shift towards electric mobility by 2030 presents both a challenge and an opportunity for India. As the nation embraces cleaner and more sustainable modes of transportation, there arises a pressing need for a skilled workforce capable of driving innovation, manufacturing, and maintenance in the electric vehicle sector.
ASDC recognises the immense potential of this transition and has been at the forefront of skilling initiatives tailored to meet the demands of the evolving automotive industry. Through strategic collaborations with industry stakeholders, educational institutions, and the government, ASDC has been instrumental in developing a robust ecosystem for skilling and upskilling in electric vehicle technologies.
ASDC’s commitment to staying abreast of industry advancements is evident through its diverse range of skilling initiatives tailored to meet the demands of the rapidly evolving automotive industry. One such initiative is the Electric Mobility Nanodegree Programme, a six-month program developed in collaboration with DIYguru, designed for individuals with an engineering or diploma background. This program equips participants with comprehensive knowledge and skills in electric vehicle technologies.
The PLI scheme introduced by the Government serves as a catalyst for domestic manufacturing and investments in the automotive sector. ASDC views this as a significant opportunity to align skilling efforts with industry requirements, thereby creating a talent pool that is not only job-ready but also adept at leveraging cutting-edge technologies.
Currently, ASDC offers a range of courses specifically designed to cater to the emerging needs of the electric vehicle segment. These courses cover various aspects of EV technology, including battery management systems, power electronics, electric vehicle design, and maintenance.
Furthermore, ASDC is committed to expanding its reach and impact through innovative skilling programs and initiatives. The council aims to collaborate with industry leaders to develop advanced training modules, establish state-of-the-art training facilities, and facilitate apprenticeship programs to bridge the skill gap in the electric vehicle ecosystem.
F R Singhvi, President of ASDC, remarked, “In the wake of India’s ambitious Electric Vehicle (EV) policy and the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, ASDC spearheads the skilling initiatives of the nation’s journey towards sustainable transportation. With about 3,000 candidates enrolled in EV job roles and more than 11,000 learners enrolled for e-learning courses, ASDC stands as the vanguard of skilling initiatives for new automotive technologies. As NITI Aayog forecasts a shift towards electric mobility by 2030, ASDC sees both challenge and opportunity. Through strategic partnerships and innovative programs like the Electric Vehicle Safety Program for E-Bus stakeholders, ASDC ensures a skilled workforce ready to drive innovation. With a commitment to aligning skilling efforts with industry needs, ASDC paves the way for India to emerge as a global leader in electric mobility.”
As India embarks on its journey towards a greener and more sustainable future, ASDC remains steadfast in its commitment to nurturing talent and driving excellence in the automotive sector. Through strategic skilling initiatives and partnerships, ASDC envisions a future where India’s workforce emerges as a global powerhouse in electric vehicle technology and innovation.
