Investing in Change: Sunteck Realty Promotes Healthier Communities, Creates Awareness on Menstrual Health & Well being
May 7th, 2024, Mumbai: Sunteck Realty, renowned for its commitment to excellence and sustainability, empowered 1,000 adolescents’ girls promoting menstrual health awareness at various municipal schools. Mentoring about menstrual health care and hygiene can help women and girls from underprivileged backgrounds continue their education, maintain their health, and preserve their dignity.
The National Family Health Survey (2020-21) highlights that over 30% of women in India aged 15 to 24 do not use hygienic methods of protection during their menstrual cycles. An alarming estimate suggests that each year, 20% of girls in India discontinue their education due to a lack of access to quality menstrual products. Additionally, 40% of girls are reported to miss school days during their periods, a situation exacerbated by the diminished accessibility of menstrual products in lower-income families.
Even in urban areas like Mumbai, the gap in awareness and access to menstrual hygiene remains stark. The challenge is compounded by the cost implications of single-use sanitary napkins, which, despite being a necessity, become a significant recurring expenditure. Many young girls either make do with inadequate alternatives or use single-use sanitary pads less frequently than recommended, adversely affecting their health.
Through Project Lajja, Sunteck Realty has distributed reusable cloth pads kits to each girl, offering a cost-efficient and eco-friendly approach to managing menstrual health and hygiene. Project Lajja is designed to align with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically aiming to contribute to Goal 3 – Good Health and Well-being, Goal 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production, Goal 4 – Quality Education, and Goal 5 – Gender Equality. By distribution of the 4000 reusable cloth pads, around 120,000 single-use sanitary napkins that may contain plastics have been diverted from landfills. Moreover, the use of single-use sanitary napkins generates 8.9 kg of CO2 emissions annually has been curbed, furthering ecological preservation.

Arthat Studio’s sets up its latest sculpture at ONGC’s IPSHEM campus
Mumbai, 07th May 2024: Arthat Studio, an artist collective and experiential agency, known for anamorphic art installations and for the practice of anamorphosis in India has completed its most recent work at ONGC IPSHEM Campus in Goa.
The sculptures are created from scrap metal sourced from ONGC’s operations, inspired by the theme of Samudra Manthan (Churning of the Ocean), stand as powerful symbols of the company’s ethos and services. Each sculpture intricately captures the essence of the mythological tale, depicting celestial beings and demons engaged in the cosmic endeavour to extract the elixir of life – oil.
Meticulously crafted by skilled artisans, showcase the fusion of creativity and sustainability, as they repurpose industrial waste into stunning works of art. Just as the Devas and Asuras worked in harmony to churn the ocean, ONGC harnesses cutting-edge technology and expertise to extract oil responsibly, ensuring the vitality of communities and industries.
Speaking on its latest work, Co-Founders of Arthat Studio – Jitendra Patel, Ashok Namdev and Deval Vala commented, “We are immensely grateful to ONGC for providing us with this opportunity and allowing us to create these unique sculptures. The creative freedom which they provide helps us explore the possibilities with their scrap.”
“Creating sculptures from scrap metal was quite a challenge considering the timeline we had. But pre-planning and client support motivated us to achieve the desired output within the deadline. To make all the sculptures of the Samudra Manthan theme, we took overall 95 days and a team of 25 artisans and 120 fabricators”, said Hiren Masharu, Chief Operation Officer at Arthat Studio.

The Poona Club Squash Open and PSA Challenger Tour Men’s and Women’s Championship Set to Kick Off on May 8th

Artist Shivam Sahni was the principal performer as Atma in PARIKRAMA said, “My character in this production is very challenging as my previous production was as Young Krishna with Shriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra very easily identifiable. However, for the character of Atma in Parikrama, I portray a non being which itself is very difficult to convey both in terms of Concept and the specific movement vocabulary.”
Tullu Murmu is the principal performer as KARNA said, “My most challenging feat was combining and expressing the historical narrative of Karna himself from rigorous dance and intense, subtle emotions. My feelings whilst communicating with my stage mother Kunti as to ‘why did she leave me and why does she want me back now’ was another intense scene in my role as Karna.”
Artist Molina Singh (MEERA) said, “This was my 28th year of playing the character of Meera. It is also my longest inning to play a character. Through Meera, I learned the value of integrity, to be fearless and condemn the wrong doing against the weak, to be graceful yet fearless in speaking your mind. Extremely thankful to Shriram Bharatiya kala Kendra and Padmashri Shobha Deepak Singh for trusting in my ability to pull this long innings of playing Meera.”

DPS RN Extension Hosts a Mesmerising Odissi Dance Recital by Renowned Artist Ms. Kavita Dwibedi
Under the aegis of SPIC MACAY, Delhi Public School Raj Nagar Extension, hosted a delightful Odissi performance by the renowned Odissi exponent, Ms. Kavita Dwibedi in the school auditorium. SPIC MACAY spreads awareness about the classical music and cultural heritage of India among young minds. Ms. Kavita Dwibedi, a recipient of several prestigious awards, graced the stage with her profound understanding and expertise in the Odissi dance form.
The programme commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp, followed by a warm welcome of Ms. Kavita Dwibedi by the school’s Principal, Ms. Pallavi Upadhyaya. Accompanied by Shri Vishwanath Mangaraj, Shri Sukanta Nayak, Shri Gopinath Swain and Kumari Anushua Chowdhury, Kavita Ji’s performance left the audience spellbound. Her performance truly embodied the essence of poetry in motion, starting with Manglacharan and concluding with Krishna Leela.

Happy Vibrations – A solo show of Artist Ghanshyam Gupta
New Delhi, 06th May, 2024: The Lexicon Art organised “Happy Vibrations”, a solo show of Ghanshyam Gupta at M -12, Connaught Place New Delhi- 110001. The show’s name alluded to a phrase that Ghanshyam often uses to qualify his paintings. He suggested that every emotion and feeling we experience emits a certain vibrational frequency and positive emotions, such as joy, love, gratitude, and contentment, vibrate at higher frequencies.
The chief guest at the event was Padma Shri & Padma Bhushan Raja & Radha Reddy and Kaushalya Reddy. The exhibition would remain open for all from 04th May to 03rd June, 2024 (Monday to Saturday from 11 am to 07 pm).
The guests spotted at the event were Mr. K.L. Ganju, Vilas Kulkarni, Sushma Singhvi, Ritu Soni Bhagat, Shinjani Kulkarni, Reshma Punj, Aashmeen Munjaal, Annie Munjal, Anchal Garg, Sumit Thakur, Nupur Kundu, Sanjana Jon & Designer Anupamaa Dayal to name a few came to celebrate the show of Artist Ghanshyam Gupta.
The resonance of Ghanshyam’s paintings was meant to evoke elation amongst admirers. This connected with his theory of colour therapy through which he sought to capture the viewer’s mind and affect their consciousness. Despite his expertise in representational, figurative art, Ghanshyam chose non-figurative forms for this show and had developed techniques specifically to capture the essence of the rising sun and the verdant nature, symbolic of his vision. The show itself then became an endeavour to emphasize the importance of cultivating positive vibrations and awakening glee through our surroundings.

Akshay Tritiya Parna Mahotsav is to be held in the city
Hyderabad, May 06, 2024: About 100 Jains, who fasted alternate days for the past year to end their fasting on 10th May in a function to be held in the city.
A function called Akshay Tritiya Parna Mahotsav will be held to mark the occasion. It is being organised under the guidance of Jain Guru Dr Samkit Muni Ji and two other Jain Monks. On this day about 700 Jains from across India such as Nashik, Pune, Jodhpur, Karnataka, and Chennai including 32 from Hyderabad are expected to participate in the same. They will end their year-long alternate fasting with sugar cane juice disclosed by Swarupchand Kothari, Gautam Chand Dank, Sajjan Gandhi, Annaraj Bafna and Vinod Kimtee, the office bearers of the organising body.
Before breaking their fasting, they will march in a km-long procession from Saibaba Temple in Gudi Malkapur to Dadawadi Jain Temple Karawan on 10 May. 20 Chariots will participate in the procession.
About 4000 people are expected to participate in this Mahotsav which starts on May 9th and ends on May 10th
In Jainism, Akshaya Tritiya is important as it commemorates the first Tirthankara, Rishab dev Bhagwan, ending his one-year asceticism(severe self-discipline and avoiding all forms of indulgence) by consuming sugarcane juice poured into his cupped hands. Some Jains refer to the festival as Akashya Tritiya Parna Mahotsav. The ascetic practices include simple living, begging, fasting and ethical practices such as humility, compassion, meditation, patience and prayer. Akshay Tritiya Parna Mahotsav brings to an end to such a year-long strict self-discipline.

Rotary Club of Delhi South and The Earth Saviours Foundation Inaugurate New Home for the Elderly
Gurugram, 06 May 2024 – The Rotary Club of Delhi South (RCDS), together with The Earth Saviours Foundation (TESF), inaugurated a new old age home in Mandawar village, marking a significant milestone in the organization’s ongoing commitment to provide shelter and care for the elderly in the community.
India is witnessing a significant demographic shift with a rapidly increasing elderly population. According to recent reports, the number of senior citizens aged 60 and above has been steadily rising. As of 2023, it is estimated that over 140 million of India’s population comprises senior citizens. This proportion is projected to continue growing in the coming years, making it crucial to address the challenges faced by this demographic. Factors such as familial neglect, low education levels, socio-cultural beliefs and stigma, low trust in institutionalized healthcare services and affordability hamper access to care for the elderly.
TESF, founded by the late Karma Yogi Shri Ravi Kalra and now ably managed by his son Shri Jas Kalra, has a long-standing commitment to caring for the elderly. The Vridha Ashram in the Mandawar village alone houses over 400 elders who have been abandoned by their families. TESF provides them with care, including healthy meals, medical attention, and a sense of belonging.
The new block, constructed with assistance from Rotary members comprises of two floors and a total area of 3,000 square feet, offering comfortable living space for 48-50 elders. Equipped with essential amenities like toilets, shower rooms, lighting, fans, air coolers, and beds, the facility aims to provide a dignified living environment for the elders.
Speaking at the occasion, the chief guest Rtn. Ajeet Jalan, District Governor 2026-27 of District 3011, India said, “We are proud of the Rotary Club of Delhi South which is celebrating its 55th anniversary. They are at the forefront of community services be it Leprosy. Polio, nari shakti, or providing shelter for elders. With the successful completion of this project, we yet again create hope in the world with the magic of Rotary.”
Expressing his thoughts, Rotarian Pramod Agarwal, President 2023-24 of RCDS said that “In a country like India, which is known for its respect for the elderly population, it is an unfortunate reality that they’re leading isolated and neglected lives. Rotary Club of Delhi South has joined hands with TESF to collectively work towards bettering the life of homeless and vulnerable elderly population by providing them with the necessary care and support to lead a dignified life.”
Shri Jas Kalra from TESF said, “This project is slated to become the world’s largest center dedicated to providing shelter and support for over 5,000 elderly, homeless, and destitute individuals in need. I am grateful to the Rotary Club members for their unwavering support in building a shelter at Mandawar Sewa Dham. Their generosity is a beacon of hope as we strive to uplift the lives of the less fortunate. With their kindness guiding us, we can rise above the challenges of today and pave the way for a brighter future for all.”
