Maanya Wadhwa sweeps SFA Championships in Bengaluru
Bengaluru, January 23rd, 2024: On Day 7 of the SFA Championships, the spirit of spectators remained high with the kick-off of Kabaddi and Throwball. The Padukone-Dravid Centre for Sports Excellence hosted a total of 7 sports, including Badminton, Basketball, Football, Kabaddi, Table Tennis, Throwball, and Swimming. The battle to win the coveted title of ‘number one school in sports’ is reaching its climax, as the competition remains fierce.
The day witnessed the much-anticipated finals of swimming for the U-8 to U-18 categories, where young swimmers showcased their techniques in the freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly strokes. The day brought to light the extraordinary talent of a 12-year-old swimmer, Manya Wadhwa, from Maaruthi Magnolia Public School, who won 4 gold medals at SFA Championships in 50m freestyle, 100m breaststroke, 100m freestyle and Butterfly stroke 100m. The proud father Raj Wadhwa spoke about her daughter’s journey so far, “Manya began swimming just two years ago, because we wanted her to maintain an active lifestyle and keep away from gadgets. As she began swimming, the coach recognised her potential and recommended that Manya should pursue participation in professional competitions. We are extremely proud of her passion for the sport and as a family, we will continue supporting her.” At the state level, in 50m freestyle, she won silver. Manya has represented Karnataka at the Nationals in Orissa in 2023, with an overall India rank as 12th. In the south zone National meet, she won 2gold and 1silver and in the South zone State meet, she won 3gold, 1silver and 2bronze.
The age-old sport of Kabaddi, deeply rooted in Indian culture, took center stage where U-14 boys displayed their skills, discipline, and determination. Throwball matches in the U-16 and U-18 categories engaged in spirited rallies, showcasing their precise throws, quick reflexes, and collaborative play. Meanwhile, Table Tennis finals for U-10 to U-17 girls and boys engaged in thrilling rallies.
Badminton enthralled the audience with exciting quarter-finals and semi-finals of U-11 to U-19 categories. Meanwhile, Basketball courts echoed with excitement as U-16 boys and girls engaged in quarter-final battles.

Karur Vysya Bank Q3 results for FY 2023-24
JANUARY 23, 2024:
Karur Vysya Bank (‘the Bank’) announced its financial results for the Quarter / Nine months ended December 31, 2023 today. The Bank continues its healthy performance in terms of business growth, profitability as well as asset quality.
BALANCE SHEET:
Balance sheet size as of December 31, 2023 was ₹ 1,02,868 crore as against ₹ 89,013 crore as of December 31, 2022, a growth of 15.56%.
Total business as on 31 st December 2023 stands at ₹ 1,58,357crore, registering a Y-o-Y growth of 14.74% i.e. up by ₹ 20,344 crore from ₹ 1,38,013 crore as on 31.12.2022.
Total deposits as on 31 st December 2023 stands at ₹ 85,665 crore, registering a Y-o-Y growth of 12.82% i.e. up by ₹ 9,733 crore from ₹ 75,932 crore as on 31.12.2022.
Total advances as on 31 st December 2023 stands at ₹ 72,692 crore, registering a Y-o-Y growth of 17.09% i.e. up by ₹ 10,611 crore from ₹ 62,081 crore as on 31.12.2022.
FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE – 9M FY 2024:
Net profit for the nine months registered a robust growth of 49.61% and stood at ₹ 1,149 crore from ₹ 768 crore during corresponding nine months of the previous year.
PPOP for the nine months increased by 12.95% is at ₹ 1,962 crore, as compared to ₹ 1,737 crore for corresponding nine months of the previous year.
Net interest income increased by 14.54% to ₹ 2,813 crore vis-à-vis ₹ 2,456 crore for corresponding nine months of the previous year.
Net interest margin stands at 4.20% up by 9 bps as compared to 4.11% for the corresponding nine months of the previous year.
Cost of deposits has increased by 98 bps and stands at 5.13% as compared to 4.15% for the corresponding nine months of the previous year.
Yield on advances grew to 9.88% by 116 bps as compared to 8.72% for the corresponding nine months of the previous year.
Commission and fee based income has improved by 14.84% on Y-o-Y basis to ₹ 627 crore from ₹ 545 crore for corresponding nine months of the previous year.
Operating expenses for the nine months was ₹ 1,881 crore as compared to ₹ 1,477 crore during the corresponding nine months of the previous year.
Cost to income ratio stands at 48.95% (45.97% for 9M of previous year).
CAPITAL ADEQUACY:
Capital Adequacy Ratio (CRAR) as per Basel III guidelines was at 15.39% as on December 31, 2023 (17.62% as on December 31, 2022) as against a regulatory requirement of 11.50%. Tier 1 was at 13.87% as of December 31, 2023 compared to 15.79% as of December 31, 2022. Risk- weighted Assets were at ₹ 59,531 crore as on December 31, 2023 (₹ 46,243 crore as at
December 31, 2022).
ASSET QUALITY:
Gross non-performing assets (GNPA) has improved by 112 bps and stands at 1.58% of gross advances as on December 31, 2023 (₹ 1,152 crore) vis a vis 2.70% as on December 31, 2022 (₹ 1,674 crore).
Net non-performing assets (NNPA) is below 1% and stands at 0.42% of net advances as on December 31, 2023 (₹ 305 crore), against 0.90% as on December 31, 2022 (₹ 550 crore).
Provision Coverage Ratio (PCR) was at 94.81% as at December 31, 2023, as against 90.87% as at December 31, 2022.
NETWORK:
As of December 31, 2023, the Bank’s distribution network stands at 831 branches and 1 Digital Banking Unit, and 2,251 ATMs / Cash Recyclers as against 792 branches and 2,233 ATMs / Cash Recyclers as of December 31, 2022. 56% of our branches are in semi-urban and rural areas. In addition, we have 150 business correspondents.
FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE – Q3 FY 2024 vs. Q3 FY2023:
Net profit for the quarter registered a robust growth of 42.56% and stood at ₹ 412 crore from ₹ 289 crore during corresponding quarter of previous year.
PPOP for the quarter marginally came down by 1.89% is at ₹ 676 crore, as compared to ₹ 689 crore for corresponding quarter of the previous year.
Net interest income increased by 12.60% to ₹ 1,001 crore vis-à-vis ₹ 889 crore for corresponding quarter of previous year.
Net interest margin stands at 4.32% as compared to 4.36 % for the corresponding quarter of the previous year.
Cost of deposits has increased by 99 bps and stands at 5.25% as compared to 4.26% for the corresponding quarter of previous year.
Yield on advances grew by 102 bps to 10.16% as compared to 9.14% for the corresponding quarter of the previous year.
Commission and fee-based income has improved by 22.16% on a Y-o-Y basis to ₹ 226 crore from ₹ 185 crore for corresponding quarter of the previous year.
Operating expenses for the quarter was ₹ 683 crore as compared to ₹ 518 crore during the corresponding quarter of previous year.
Cost to income ratio stands at 50.27% (42.90% for Q3 of previous year).

Transworld Group Employees Run at TATA Mumbai Marathon
Mumbai, 23 January 2024: Employees of India-based Transworld Group, a leading Global Shipping & Logistics Solution conglomerate, participated in the TATA Mumbai Marathon (TMM), Asia’s largest international marathon, to raise awareness and funds for supporting women who have been victims of human trafficking.
This is the third time that the Transworld Group has participated in TMM to contribute towards NGO Apne Aap Women’s Collective (AAWC), that seeks to empower trafficked women and their daughters by providing alternate livelihood opportunities, education, and social integration via skill training programs. 40 employees from TG completed the marathon this year, shining the spotlight on human trafficking as a serious issue.
This year’s support is dedicated towards Umeed Project, which engages with a diverse set of stakeholders, including the Department of Women and Child Development (DWCD), local law enforcement agencies, government officials, partner organizations, donors, and collaborative partners to rehabilitate trafficked women and safeguard vulnerable girls and women. The project involves a multifaceted range of services designed to address the unique needs of women and girls occupied in brothel-based prostitution. They include outreach, education, health, empowerment, recreation, shelter referrals, trauma-informed counseling, vocational training programs, healthcare support, legal advocacy, and community reintegration initiatives amongst others.

Collections from Customer grew to Rs. 332 Crore for the quarter and Deferred Revenue as on December 31,2023 increased to Rs. 1,270 Crore representing a YoY growth of 25%.
Net Profit for the quarter was at Rs.82Crore representing margin of 24%.

Standalone Financial Highlights (Q3 FY2024):
Standalone Revenue from Operations of IndiaMART grew to Rs. 291 Crore as compared to Rs. 240 Crore last year representing a growth of 21%. The growth was primarily driven by improvement in realization from existing customers and 9% increase in number of paying subscription suppliers.
Collections from Customergrew to Rs. 316 Crore for the quarter and Deferred Revenue as on December 31, 2023 increased to Rs. 1,229 Crore representing a YoY growth of 24%.
EBITDA for the quarter was at Rs. 87 Crore representing an EBITDA margin of 30%.
Net Profit for the quarter was at Rs. 92 Crorerepresenting margin of 28%.
Operational Highlights (Q3 FY2024):
IndiaMART registered traffic of 272 million and Unique business enquiries of23 million in Q3 FY24; representing a YoY growth of 9% and 4% respectively. Supplier Storefronts grew to7.8 million, an increase of 5% YoY, and paying subscription suppliers grew to212Krepresenting net addition of 1,826 subscribers during the quarter.

Lemi retains the crown while Aberash clinches the women’s title at the Tata Mumbai Marathon 2024
Chennai, 22 January 2024: Ethiopian Hayle Lemi Berhanu became only the second athlete to defend the men’s crown in the history of the Tata Mumbai Marathon, a World Athletics Gold Label Road Race, as he successfully crossed the finish line in 2:07:50.
With today’s victory, Lemi replicated the feat of the Kenyan runner John Kelai who won two back-to-back titles here during 2007-2008.
After winning, Lemi, stated, “ It’s been an amazing run, am feeling extremely good. The best part is the support on the course. I was trying for the course record, but the last few kms were a little tough.
Lemi was among the dozen athletes who set off together in the lead bunch with compatriots Kinde Atanaw, and Haymanot Alew as pacer Dominic Ngeno did the front running. Kenya’s Dickson Kiptoo and Alew briefly took the lead slightly ahead of the others to cover the first 20K in 60:30.
At 30K, the leading group became thinner with Kenyan Joshua Kogo and Ethiopia’s Mitku Tafa remaining with Lemi, Alew and Kiptoo. Both Lemi and Alew increased their pace and broke away from the rest thereafter. Lemi, taking advantage of his previous experience on the Mumbai roads, started running fast and was alone in the last five kilometers. With no one to push him, he had to make his assessment to run the waning stages of the race and hence missed an opportunity to improve his last year’s winning time and course record (2:07:32). His teammates Haymnot Alew (2:09:03) and Mitku Tafa (2:09:58) took the next two places on the podium.
Newcomer Aberash wins top prize on her debut
As in the previous edition, the Ethiopians dominated the scene once again and filled the podium spots in both men’s and women’s races. While Lemi Berhanu was successful in defending the top spot among men, Anchialem Haymanot could not accomplish her ambition to win another title in Mumbai in the women’s race.
Haymanot, a pre-race favorite for the top spot, was running with the lead group of seven until midway and started showing fatigue thereafter to fall back to finish sixth (2:29:58).
Aberash Minsewo, who made her marathon debut here, started her career as a middle-distance runner and won the World Youth (U18) championships 3,000m gold in Nairobi in 2017. Having pocketed a bronze medal at the same distance in the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires the following year, she started taking part in the road races in 2021.
She made her first appearance in India last year. Minsewo finished twelfth in the TCS World 10K in Bengaluru and barely missed the podium on her fourth-place finish in the Delhi Half-Marathon thereafter.
“I was so happy to win my first-ever marathon title on debut”, Minsewo said in the post-event press briefing. With three Ethiopians with similar first names (Aberash) taking the starting line, no one imagined the grand prize would go to the 22-year-old runner. However, Minsewo took the lead right from the beginning to the surprise of the rest and maintained her tempo throughout the race. Her country-mates Ayinadis Teshome, Muluhabt Tsega, and Medhin Bejene trying to challenge her in the major part of the race.
With just 2K to go for the finish, Minsewo emerged as a clear leader with Tsega following her behind in a short distance. The winner clocked 2:26:06 to become victorious on her debut with Tsega (2:26:51) and Bejene (2:27:34) completing the podium.
Srinu, Nirmaben top Indian finishers
Bugatha Srinu (2:17:29) and Thakor Nirmaben (2:47:11) were the top Indian finishers among men and women respectively.
Srinu, who hails from Vijayanagaram in Andhra Pradesh, became the first Indian runner to finish within the top 10 in Mumbai with his eighth-place finish today. Nirmaben from Gujarat, who finished 16th here last year improved her position with a 10th-place finish this time and rapidly improved her personal best to 2:47:11 from 3:08:33 last year. The Indian winners took home INR 5,00,000 lakhs each.
Sawan Barwal (1:05:07) and Amrita Patel (1:19:20) took the half-marathon titles in their respective categories.
Elite winners Hayle Lemi and Aberash Minsewo went home with USD 50,000 top prize from a total prize pot of USD 405,000.

From pool to court: Bengaluru’s school athletes shine across multi-sports at SFA Championships
Bengaluru, January 22st, 2024: Day 6 of the SFA Championships in Bengaluru saw school athletes compete fiercely across seven sports, including Badminton, Basketball, Karate, Table Tennis, Tennis, Swimming, and Volleyball. The city-based model of the SFA Championships empowers athletes to compete and bring their schools on top of the leaderboard to win the coveted title of “number one school” in sports, in the city.
Tennis matches came to a thrilling finale with players showcasing their finesse and skills in U-10 to U-18 categories, offering gripping moments to the spectators. Finals of volleyball matches added to the excitement with matches of U-12 to U-16 athletes as the court pulsated with dynamic spikes, strategic digs, and precise sets, underscoring the essence of teamwork and sportsmanship that define the spirit of this sport.
Badminton matches for U-11 to U-17 categories continued, adding another layer of excitement to the day. Competing in the U-15 category at the SFA Championships, Chirag Prakash from Venkat International Public School, shared “I began playing badminton five years ago, for fitness reasons. But then, I started enjoying the sport and competed at state and national level tournaments. I’ve been to several places across the country for national-level competitions and aspire to keep competing in the upcoming years, as well”.
Agile young swimmers competed across U-8 to U-16 categories displaying their swift moves and techniques in freestyle, breaststroke, and individual medley competitions. Simultaneously, table tennis matches featured players in the U-10 to U-17 categories, exhibiting their skills and precision in this sport. Karate took the spotlight, captivating audiences as participants aged U-7 to U-19 demonstrated their relentless determination and kata skills.
The day concluded on a high note as basketball champions demonstrated their skills in the U-14 and U-18 categories. Player of the U-13 Basketball team from DPS East, Shruthi Raghunath expressed, “My mother introduced me to basketball at the age of five, and since then, I’ve enjoyed and continued playing this sport. I’ve participated at the state-level tournaments as well as in the NBA. I’m grateful for my parents and coach for being so supportive in my journey. It has been a great experience participating in the SFA Championships, and I’m both nervous and excited for my next match”.
