Continental Takes Next Steps Towards Sustainable Operations
Hanover, Germany, January 9, 2024. In accordance with Continental’s sustainability ambition, the group sectorContiTech has taken the next concrete steps towards transforming its own production facilities into sustainable factories. ContiTech recently installed a new PV system in Timișoara, Romania.Other locations are expected to follow in the coming months. Furthermore, the group sector has chosen three production facilities worldwide as pilot projects to find the best approach for carbon-neutral operations.
“Each of our production facilities faces their own specific challenges in reaching green operationsby2040 at the latest,” said Claus-Peter Spille, Senior Vice President Operations at ContiTech. “With the pilot projects, we provideour locations acomprehensive guidance on how to implement systematic operational environmental management at their site.”
“Sustainability is both an enormous opportunity and a decisive driver for innovation. As the first choice for material-driven solutions in a variety of industries, we are dedicated to address the challenges our world is facing,” continued Philip Nelles, Member of Continental’s Executive Board for ContiTech. “Our recent steps towards greener operations prove that reducing the impact of climate change, together with our partners along the value chain, is a task to which we are strongly committed.”
Expanding emission-free energy production
The recently installed PV system in Timișoarais expected to produce approximately 930MWh annually of emission-free electricity. Additional to Timișoara, where the company is producing hoses and belts, the locations in Subotica (Serbia), Szeged (Hungary), Wagrowiec (Poland), Weissbach (Germany), Changzhou (China), Kalyani (India) and Chihuahua (Mexico) have already approved their own PV projects and will install their respective systems in the coming months. ContiTech expects with these installations a yearly electricity generation of 5900 MWh, which represents the electricity consumption of 2950 households in Germany.
Pilot plants in Canada, Germany and China to reach CO2 neutrality by 2030
Furthermore, ContiTech has defined three locations, Changzhou (China), Granby (Canada) and Dannenberg (Germany),as pilot sites for green operations. Their success, based on concrete measures and activities, will provide guidance to the other plants within ContiTech on how to implement similar measures to operate carbon neutral in Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2040 at the latest. “Each plant in each region is operating under very unique conditions, so we cannot expect that a successful approach at one site can simply be copied to another,” explained Claus-Peter Spille. “But with these three pilot projects, we are convinced to find best practices tailored for each region that can then be rolled out and adapted to the other plants.”Ambitious sustainability goals for production sites
To make every production facility around the world a green factory, Continental has set itself specific targets when it comes to operational environmental management.By 2030 the company wants to reduce its energy consumption by 20 %,increase the recovery quota to 95 % and decrease waste generation by 2 % each year. Furthermore, Continental aims to decrease its water withdrawal by 4 % in high-risk water regions and by 2 % in moderate-risk water regions, all of them relative to sales.

Telangana Chief Minister Mr. A. Revanth Reddy receives formal request for installation of former union minister and Telangana movement leader Dr. Mallikarjun’s statue
Hyderabad, 9th January 2024: The spouse and son of former union minister and Telangana movement leader Dr. Mallikarjun, Mrs. Bhagyalakshmi Mallikarjun and Mr. Manu Mallikarjun called on the Chief Minister of Telangana Mr. A. Revanth Reddy, at his residence today. They made a formal request for recognition by the state government of Dr. Mallikarjun’s contributions towards the development of the nation and Telangana statehood movement by installing a statue of his at a prominent location at Hyderabad. They were accompanied by former M.L.A Mr. Gurunath Reddy, former MLC K. Yadava Reddy, Kodangal Municipal Chairman Mr. Jagadish Reddy, DCC President (Narayanpet) Mr. K. Prashanth Reddy and former MPP Mr. Mudappa Reddy.
Dr. Mallikarjun had served in the cabinets of Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and P.V. Narasimha Rao holding wide-ranging critical portfolios like Defence and Railways. He is also remembered for the development of Mahabubnagar parliamentary constituency from where he was elected to the Lok Sabha four times and that of Medak that elected him twice as Member of Parliament, apart from his pivotal role in the decades long struggle for statehood for Telangana.
His commitment to the Telangana movement began with the Telangana agitation of 1969 in which he played a central role as a student union leader while studying medicine at Osmania University. His lifelong support to the cause of statehood to Telangana culminated in his founding and leading the Congress Forum for Telangana, before his untimely demise on 24th December, 2002. He had also held the position of APCC President during the years 1996-1998.

IIMC to hold its 55th convocation tomorrow
Former President of India Shri Ram Nath Kovind to give the Convocation address
New Delhi, January 9: The 55th Convocation ceremony of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) will be held Pragati Maidan’s Bharat Mandap on January 10, 2024. The former President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind, will be the chief guest at the event and give the Convocation address. The ceremony will also be attended by the Chairman of IIMC, Shri R Jagannathan, and the Director General, Dr. Anupama Bhatnagar.
The event, scheduled to commence at 10:00 AM, will see the participation of IIMC faculty from IIMC New Delhi and its five regional centers at Dhenkanal, Aizawl, Amravati, Kottayam and Jammu.
During the Convocation ceremony, Post Graduate Diploma certificates will be awarded to the IIMC students (from IIMC Delhi and all its centres) from 2021-22 and 2022-23 batches. Further, 65 students from the two batches will be awarded different medals.

Supply Chain Management Centre at IIMB hosts the Eighth Biennial Supply Chain Management Conference

09 JANUARY, 2024, Bengaluru: The Supply Chain Management Centre, a Centre of Excellence at IIM Bangalore, hosted the Eighth Biennial Supply Chain Management Conference at the campus today. Centred around the theme, “Innovative Strategies for Sustainable and Digital Supply Chains”, the two-day conference fosters industry and academia collaboration through keynote sessions, paper presentations and sector-centric insights.
Delivering the inaugural keynote speech at the event, Mr. M S Ganesh, General Manager, Capacity Supply Chain & Provisioning at Microsoft Azure said, “In the realm of supply chain management, a seamlessly connected and intelligent ecosystem, driven by digitalization and AI advancements, forms the bedrock of innovation and profitability. The industry is witnessing an exponential surge in the availability of data and the pace of innovation, with digital transformation emerging as the driving force behind significant growth. Geeta Phogat Inaugurates 5th Edition of Ekal Run organized by FTS Yuva
Kolkata, 8th January, 2024: FTS Yuva, the youth wing of Friends of Tribals Society organized its annual flagship event Ekal Run at Godrej Waterside, Kolkata today wherein 5000+ participants ran for their chosen category of timed run – 21km, 10km, 5km and non-timed /fun run of 3km at this Marathon. People of all age groups participated in the run.

First at Manipal Hospital Baner: 55-Year-Old Brain Dead Gives New Lease of Life to Four
Pune, January 8, 2024: The family of 55-year-old Sunil Nigade Ji from Satara, who was declared brain dead at Manipal Hospital, took the brave decision of donating his organs on Friday. The patient suffered a brain aneurysmal bleed at a local hospital in Satara, where he was put on a ventilator to maintain oxygenation. For further treatment was brought to Manipal Hospital, Baner, on January 3rd. Despite the best efforts of doctors, his condition continued to deteriorate, and he was declared brain dead on January 5th, 2024.
The medical team of critical care department & Transplant Coordinator Ms. Reshma Kulawade counselled the family about organ donation. After receiving consent from the family, the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO) was immediately informed. The officials from NOTTO quickly allotted the organs as per their waiting list. One kidney was allocated to a patient at Manipal Hospital, Baner, and the other was sent to DY Patil Hospital, Pune. The liver was sent to Shayadri Hospital, Hadapsar, and the heart was sent at MGM Hospital, Chennai. A Green corridor was created on January 6th, 2024 with support of Pune traffic police to transfer the heart.
Dr. Amit Dhakoji, Head of Neurosciences, Manipal Hospital, Baner, said, “We continued the mechanical ventilation and medical management to prevent an increase in brain swelling and seizures. On further evaluation, it was revealed that he is suffering from subarachnoid haemorrhage (Grade 4). Despite intensive treatment under the care of the neurosurgery and critical care teams, he could not recover and was declared brain dead on January 5th, 2024.”
Dr. Bhushan Nagarkar, Consultant and Head of Critical Care, Manipal Hospital, Baner, said, ‘The team worked closely with the patient’s family, providing them with the required information and support so that they could make an informed decision. The family agreed to donate heart, liver and both the kidneys of their patient. The heart, liver, and kidneys were retrieved by the Expert team of doctors and transported for a successful transplantation. The family saved the lives of four patients in critical condition and gave them a new lease of life.”
Dr. Anand Dharaskar, Consultant: Uro-surgeon & Transplant Specialist and his team performed the kidney transplantation for one at Manipal Hospital, Baner, Pune. Dr. Tarun Jeloka, Consultant Nephrologist & Head Renal Sciences & team supported the team during the entire procedure.
Dr. Sonal Dixit, Regional Head- Medical Service, Manipal Hospital, Baner, said, “The family’s decision to donate organs made a difference in the lives of others. The legacy of the donor will live on through the lives he has saved. Donating one’s organs is a gift of life; it is an opportunity to give someone else a second chance in life. We strongly encourage everyone to think about organ donation and to register as an organ donor. We can save lives if we work together.”
There is a wide gap between patients who need transplants and the organs that are available in India. 1.8 lakh people suffer from renal failure every year; however, only 15,000 renal transplants are done. An estimated 25,000 to 30,000 liver transplants are needed annually in India, but only about 2000 are performed. Similarly, of several thousand people who suffer from heart failure, only 200 get a heart transplant.
The noble act of organ donation highlights the pressing need for organ donations in India, as there is a significant disparity between patients awaiting transplants and the availability of organs. Increasing awareness and participation in organ donation can bridge this gap and offer hope to countless lives in need.

Abhishek Soni and Sheilah Jepkorir win the Freshworks Chennai Men’s and Women’s Full Marathon 2024
Chennai, Saturday, January 6, 2024: Abhishek Soni from Madhya Pradesh, won the Men’s full marathon and Sheilah Jepkorir won the women’s full marathon at the 12th edition of the event here today. The Freshworks Chennai Marathon 2024 powered by Chennai Runners saw over 20,000 enthusiastic runners participating across categories. This sea of runners were cheered on by an enthusiastic crowd that had gathered at various points along the route of the marathon early this morning from 3.30 am onwards.
The full marathon and twenty miler both started from Napier bridge today morning at 4 am and was flagged off by Dr. Jayanth Murali IPS (Retd) The Commissioner of Police, Greater Chennai, Mr. Sandeep Rai Rathore, IPS flagged off the 10 km run. Dr C Sylendra Babu IPS, flagged off the 10 k, Wheelchair runners. Mrs C Latha, Secretary Tamil Athletic Association, Joint Secretary Athletics Federation of India was also present.
A total of Rs. 20,00,000/- (Twenty Lakhs Only) was distributed as prize money this year to the winners in various categories. The 12th edition of the marathon comprised of runners who were professionals, passionate runners, teams from various corporates across Chennai, several important dignitaries from the corporate world and citizens participating for the first time ever. This year the Freshworks Chennai Marathon saw participation of over 35% women runners. The marathon also had runners who were visually impaired, blade runners, and wheelchair runners.
The Freshworks Chennai Marathon 2024 powered by Chennai Runners, was certified by AIMS (The Association of International Marathons and Distance Races), a worldwide association of the organizers of long-distance road running races. Chennai Marathon 2024 is also recognized by Abbott World Marathon Majors as a qualifier event.
In its 12th edition, the Freshworks Chennai Marathon 2024, powered by Chennai Runners, the largest running event in Chennai and the second-largest marathon in India, comprised of four events for men and women including, a Full Marathon (42.195 Km) – the flagship race of the event, the Perfect 20 Miler (32.186 Km), the Half Marathon (21.097 Km) and the 10 Km Run.
Like the previous edition, this year the Freshworks Chennai Marathon 2024 powered by Chennai Runners focused on increasing awareness of Type 1 diabetics and on raising funds for people with insulin needs.
Abhishek Soni, winner of the Mens Full marathon said, “I love running marathons. This is my 6th marathon. I came to Chennai only to run for this event. I am thrilled to win here today. I am very happy with the Chennai marathon. The facilities are good, we had a very good guide every step of the way. The volunteers were very nice and helped me. There were enough of water points and the weather was also very nice. I was motivated to run well and winning here is a dream for me.”
