Police and OYO joint operation to curb immoral activities in Lucknow hotels
December 06, 2023, LUCKNOW: The police department has initiated a special drive in its fight against immoral activities including human trafficking in hotels in Lucknow in partnership with OYO. As part of the initiative, strict action against those using OYO’s brand illegally will also be one of the top priorities for the police.
The company, committed to ensuring safe and secure stays for its guests, organized a seminar in partnership with the police to raise awareness, educate stakeholders, and promote a collaborative approach in the fight against immoral activities in hotels in Lucknow. More than 50 OYO hotel operators along with top police officials in the city participated in the seminar. The initiative reiterates OYO’s zero-tolerance policy against any kind of immoral activity in its partner hotels.
Upendra Kumar Agarwal, Joint Commissioner of Police, Law and Order, Lucknow addressed the seminar as the chief guest and said “Lucknow is an important city which attracts a lot of visitors. It is critical for us to create a safe and secure environment for them in hotels where all kinds of crimes such as body-related offenses, property-related offences, and cybercrime may occur. Therefore, investing in the proper training of hotel staff is a must for hotel owners. They should be trained to identify suspicious people or activities and empowered to report that to police”.
He also said that though proper record-keeping of guests is important but that moral policing should not be encouraged. In addition to this, hotels should also ensure that CCTV camera in the property and neighborhood is functional all the time.
Rajeev Dogra, Vice President and Regional Head, of North and East, OYO, added “OYO has more than 250 hotels on its platform in Lucknow and the number is constantly growing. We are aware of our responsibilities as a responsible hospitality technology company and this partnership with the police highlights our commitment towards curbing immoral activities in hotels and making Lucknow a safe place for all the guests”.
OYO has a robust safety and security system to ensure that hotels listed on its platform must comply with the safety-related laws and guidelines issued by the local law enforcement agencies. It also provides regular safety and security-related training to its hotel partners and their employees to watch out for red flags such as guest behavior and unusual check-in patterns and take preventive actions.

Romania Joins International Solar Alliance (ISA) as 118th Member Country to Accelerate Global Solar Adoption
Dubai, December 6, 2023: In a big boost to accelerate global adoption of solar energy, Romania officially joined the International Solar Alliance (ISA) as its 118th member country signaling a robust commitment to advancing solar energy and contributing to global climate action.
Romania, under the leadership of H.E. Mr. Klaus Werner Iohannis, President of Romania, formally signed the framework agreement of the ISA, becoming a vital participant in the global effort to promote solar-led energy transition. President Iohannis expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “I’m very glad that Romania joins the International Solar Alliance today. This shows Romania’s firm commitment to becoming a carbon-neutral country by using renewable sources of energy.”
President Iohannis emphasized the strategic importance of this decision in enhancing Romania’s energy security. He further highlighted Romania’s ambitious solar energy targets outlined in the National Energy and Climate Plan, aiming to install over 8 gigawatts of solar energy capacity by 2030, constituting 24% of the gross final consumption of electricity from renewable sources.He added“By joining the International Solar Alliance Romania will have a broader and deeper cooperation with India too, the host of the International Solar Alliance Secretariat as well as with other countries interested in accelerating climate change mitigation. Romania aims to scale up its solar energy capacity and enhance national access to solar power at affordable prices. For this we also need to cooperate at the Global level through alliances like this one on solar, finance technology development and capacity building. The accession to this Alliance will support Romania in implementing its ambitious solar energy targets included in the National energy and climate plan by 2030.”
Dr. Ajay Mathur, Director-General of the ISA, welcomed Romania to the alliance, expressing optimism about the collaboration. “Romania was one of the first countries in the world to export oil, and I hope it now becomes a country that also exports electricity from renewables, specifically solar,” remarked Dr. Mathur. He outlined the ISA’s commitment to working with Romania on solar deployment, capacity building, and regulatory training programs.
H.E. Mr. Sebastian-Ioan Burduja, Minister of Energy, Romania, underscored Romania’s significant solar potential in Southeast Europe, emphasizing the country’s commitment to a clean energy transition. He noted the tremendous growth in the solar sector, with over 100,000 households adopting solar panels, contributing to Romania’s energy goals. He said “Romania has the largest solar potential in southeast Europe. Study after study proves that we could exploit up to 20 GW of solar power and the entire sector has seen tremendous growth in recent years. We have also announced a nationwide campaign called, Energy for Life, Let’s Turn on the Light. It targets over 50,000 households that have never had electricity and we hope to involve the private sector and civil society in a nationwide campaign to make sure that no child has to study by the candlelight in Romania.”
The ISA, established during the COP21 in Paris, has been at the forefront of advancing solar energy initiatives globally. The framework agreement signed by Romania aligns with ISA’s key interventions focused on readiness, enabling activities, risk mitigation, and innovative financing instruments to promote and deploy solar technologies in target markets.

Ponds are the lifeline of Rajasthan – Adani Foundation helps restore water bodies in Jaisalmer
A television commercial featuring camels dancing with joy when a tanker opens its water nozzle for them shows the harsh reality of life in the desert where every drop of water is valued. Water is the elixir of life for inhabitants – people and animals – of the desert state of Rajasthan; they understand the value of this precious commodity like no one else. Life revolves around water in Rajasthan; ask those living in places like Jaisalmer and Barmer what it means to travel long distances in the scorching sun to fetch the precious resource. So it is but natural that rainfed waterbodies — man-made or natural — have been the focal point around which human settlements have developed for centuries in the state.
Village ponds hold great significance for the people here. They believe these are more than just bodies for storing water; they are the lifeline of the communities surrounding them. Despite the advancements in technology and the popularity of borewells and hand pumps, people realize that ancestral ponds are the guardians of their identity. So, they have now gone back to reviving ponds, storing water in them, and using it wisely.
The Adani Foundation recognized the dire need for water conservation in these parched lands and embarked on a mission going beyond just enhancing water storage. The goal was to revive and preserve ponds, the lifeline of these villages. Communities and local leaders became architects and decided on the excavation area, pond depth, and catchment area enhancements. Their decisions didn’t solely revolve around water but involved concerns for child safety, the welfare of cattle, and the natural rhythm of rainfall.
“For centuries, we have depended on this pond for our water requirements and it gets filled during the rainy season. But scant rain, which is common in this part of the state, and silt deposits make it difficult for the pond to hold water,” says Gafoor Khan, Sarpanch of Madhopur in Pokhran, Jaisalmer. “However, things are better now after the Adani Foundation took up the desilting and dredging at our Noteri pond that has water for 10-11 months.”
Water conservation efforts in Jaisalmer district, particularly in villages like Nedan, Madhopura, Dawara, Rasala, Achala, and Bhensara in the blocks of Pokhran and Fatehgarh have made a significant impact on the region’s water resources. These efforts, which resulted in restoring a total combined storage capacity of over 70,000 cubic meters, have not only increased the availability of water for the local communities but also contributed to groundwater recharge, ensuring a sustainable source of water for future generations.
This remarkable feat showcases the positive impact of community involvement, responsible resource management, and the commitment to preserving the natural heritage of the region. It is a testament to the power of collaborative efforts to address critical environmental challenges and secure a brighter future for these arid landscapes and their resilient communities.
“Not only the residents of Dawara but also cattle and stray animals depend on the Chataliya pond for water. People from nearby settlements come on carts and tractors to collect water. This is the only source of water for the village. We get water for 8-10 months after the pond is filled during the rains. We are thankful to the Adani Foundation for digging and cleaning this pond for our use,” says Inder Singh, resident of Dawara village, Fatehgarh, Jaisalmer.
The people’s connection to their land, culture, and history is strong. The Foundation’s initiatives to conserve water by revitalizing waterbodies ensure the survival of these villages. The locals know that their ponds are as resilient as they are. They know that their culture will survive, their country will grow, and the springs of life will forever nurture their souls. The desert’s legacy will be carried on for centuries to come.

BSP Senior Secondary School, Bhilai Chhattisgarh School Wins TCS Rural IT Quiz National Finals
BENGALURU, December 5, 2023: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) (BSE: 532540, NSE: TCS) and the Department of Electronics, IT, BT and Science and Technology, Government of Karnataka announced the winners of the national finals of the 24th edition of TCS Rural IT Quiz, held on November 30, 2023, as part of the Bengaluru Tech Summit.
Udit Pratap Singh from BSP Senior Secondary School, Bhilai Chhattisgarh was the winner in the national finals and Vignesh Nauso Shetye from Dr. K.B. Hedgewar Vidyamandir, Bicholim Goa was the runner up.
The Winner and Runner-up were awarded educational scholarships of Rs 100,000 and Rs 50,000, respectively, by TCS. The finalists also received scholarships from TCS.
