IT Sector Witnesses Resurgence in Workforce Management Amidst Skill Transformation

As of FY23-24, India’s technology industry employed 5.39 million individuals, a testament to its significant workforce contribution. However, driven by multiple factors like economic slowdown, automation, restructuring, and decreased discretionary spending; in the past few quarters, IT companies have experienced a decline in headcount. Interestingly, amidst these challenges, on the positive side, India’s IT sector is witnessing quite a resurgence in contractual hiring.
WhatsApp Image 2024-05-09 at 14.51.34_1eaeb736Notably, sectors such as IT, consumer durables, ecommerce, GCCs, and retail are experiencing significant demand for contract positions with a 40-50% increase in these positions between 2023 and 2024. The most sought-after skill sets in the technology staffing domain encompass Google Cloud, data analytics, AI/ML, application development, ERP, networking, GenAI, and cybersecurity. Additionally, there is a nearly 30% average demand for UI/UX designers, data scientists, data analysts, etc.
While these roles will continue to flourish, some traditional roles like Computer Programming (C/Java), Web Development, Mobile Development, Cloud Computation, Web/Application Development, and Cloud Architecture are likely to be redefined.
Another interesting trend is that the IT sector today offers a range of roles that are resilient to economic downturns. Profiles like DevOps, Cybersecurity, AI & ML, and Data Science, among others, are poised to maintain high demand in the coming 2-3 years. Furthermore, recruitment for tech roles within nontech sectors such as telecom, banking, and financial services, insurance (BFSI), retail and e-commerce, and healthcare is anticipated to surge at a minimum of 10-12% on average.
As AI continues to accelerate disruption at an unprecedented pace, the imperative for continuous workforce upskilling becomes increasingly evident and consequential. Over the past decade, there have been many initiatives like industry-academia collaborations, the government’s Digital India and Skill India interventions, corporates prioritizing upskilling, etc., which have been instrumental in driving the skilling agenda.
However, we also still have the largest cohort of tech professionals equipped with traditional skill sets that are witnessing declining demand due to the disruptive forces of AI, robotization, and evolving skill requirements. In light of this evolving landscape, there is a critical need for interventions like effective upskilling, retention strategies, and succession plans. Organizations, in particular, must adopt a deliberate and proactive approach towards fostering skills and capabilities, particularly in the realm of AI, to effectively navigate this transformative era.
Commenting on the IT sector hiring scenario, Sachin Alug, CEO, of NLB Services said “Despite the recent turbulence in the technology ecosystem, the resurgence in contractual hiring and the surge in talent demand for emerging tech roles, both in tech and non-tech companies, heralds a new dawn for the sector. As we navigate through the disruptions brought by AI and automation, organizations, educational institutions and governing bodies need to collaborate in tandem to foster opportunities and create a robust pool of skilled talent for the future.”

IFFCO & Marut Drones Tie-Up for Drone Spraying Over 5 Lakh Acre Farm Land in AP & Telangana

10th May 2024 Hyderabad: In a significant move towards revolutionizing agricultural practices in India, the Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative Limited (IFFCO) has entered a strategic partnership with Marut Drones to undertake drone spray operations across an extensive area spanning up to 5 lakh acres. This collaboration marks a pivotal step towards enhancing agricultural productivity and efficiency in the states of Andhra Pradesh (AP) and Telangana.
Under the terms of the agreement, Marut Drones will be employing state-of-the-art drone technology to administer a range of agricultural inputs developed by IFFCO Agri-products. This initiative aims to optimize crop yields while minimizing environmental impact, ultimately contributing to sustainable agricultural practices.
One of the key highlights of this tie-up is the creation of demand for rural entrepreneurs who have already invested in drone technology. By providing drones as a service (DAAS) for farmers, this collaboration empowers local communities and fosters self-employment opportunities. DAAS enables farmers to access drone technology through rural drone entrepreneurs at a per-acre cost, ensuring affordability and accessibility even for small-scale farmers. Furthermore, drone owners and service providers can enroll with Marut to receive incentives for spraying IFFCO products on every acre.
Commenting on the partnership, Co-founder and CEO of Marut Drones Prem Kumar emphasized the transformative role of technology in modern agriculture stating, “This collaboration signifies a paradigm shift in farming practices, allowing farmers to minimize direct contact with pesticides, thereby safeguarding their health. Furthermore, the utilization of drones addresses labor shortages by completing tasks in a fraction of the time it would take manually, significantly enhancing operational efficiency.”
The IFFCO & Marut Drones tie-up underscores a shared commitment to innovation and sustainability in agriculture, paving the way for a more prosperous and resilient farming ecosystem. By harnessing the power of drone technology, this collaboration seeks to empower farmers, drive economic growth, and ensure food security for future generations.

HCG Cancer Centre, Bangalore, Successfully Treats Appendix Cancer Patient with Cytoreductive Surgery and HIPEC
Bangalore, 10th May 2024: HCG Cancer Centre, Double Road, Bangalore recently set an exceptional benchmark in appendix cancer treatment by performing the unique Cytoreductive surgery with Hyperthermic Intra Peritoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) procedure on a 40-year-old man suffering from mucinous adenocarcinoma of the appendix. This type of cancer grows from the cells that make up the lining of the appendix.
While Cytoreductive surgery is the standard approach to reduce the number of cancer cells through the removal of the cancerous growth and involved organs in the abdomen, HIPEC is a procedure typically used to treat abdominal cancers that have spread beyond the originating organ to involve the peritoneal surface lining the abdomen. The combination of both procedures was brilliantly harnessed by Dr. Pampanagouda S K M – Senior Consultant Surgical Oncologist along with a multidisciplinary team that accomplished the medical feat.
For over two months, Tejas S (name changed on request) a 40-year-old police department employee in the city suffered from abdominal pain. He either felt full soon after eating or had a bloated feeling. He would occasionally complain of nausea and vomiting. When he began to lose weight without any explanation, his seniors at work asked him to seek medical help. Upon a physical examination, his doctor suspected that his abdominal pain was due to tuberculosis and put him on anti-tubercular treatment.
When the symptoms exacerbated, his doctor conducted an appendectomy. However, when the symptoms persisted even after the surgery, his histopathology report revealed he was suffering from mucinous adenocarcinoma of the appendix. His family advised him not to lose time and to seek expert treatment at HCG Cancer Centre, Double Road.
At HCG Cancer Centre, Double Road, when Dr Pampanagouda studied his reports and found that despite the removal of the total appendix the tumor cells had spilled into Tejas’ peritoneal cavity, he and his team unanimously decided to perform the critical Cytoreductive surgery, followed by HIPEC (Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy) procedure.
Explaining the expert treatment Dr. Pampanagouda S K M – Senior Consultant Surgical Oncologist, HCG Cancer Centre, Double Road, Bangalore said, “When the patient arrived at the hospital, he had abdominal mass with distension of the abdomen. Patient had biopsy of the abdominal mass to reconfirm the diagnosis Pseudomyxoma Peritonei (PMP) and had staging investigation done. The imaging report revealed the cancer had spread to other part of the abdomen to involve the peritoneal surface and omentum. That was when our multidisciplinary team decided that Cytoreductive surgery followed by HIPEC was the effective treatment. In view of the extensive disease, he received Neo adjuvant Chemotherapy. The patient condition was optimised and underwent surgery under general with epidural anesthesia. His blood and other vital parameters were stringently monitored to keep him stabilized throughout the nine hour-long procedures. We removed the patient’s entire abdominal wall lining (peritoneum) and complete large bowel (colon), conducted anastomosis (rejoining the ends) of the intestines, and removed the deposits over the mesentery (fold of membrane that attaches the intestine to the wall around the stomach area), followed by HIPEC procedure involving circulation of Chemotherapeutic drug solution throughout the abdomen for one hour with temperature maintained at 42 degrees centigrade. In HIPEC procedure, the cancerous tumor cells are treated with heated chemotherapy drug solution applied directly inside the abdomen to eliminate the remaining cancerous cells without much systemic toxicity of the drug.”
The patient responded extremely well to the surgery and recovered smoothly without any major complications. He was discharged from the hospital on 11th day of major surgery.”
He further added, “HCG is a pioneer in oncological care in the country. We have been consistently performing major HIPEC surgeries which have been life-saving for patients like Tejas. All our patients undergo vital tests to ascertain their capacity to withstand the extensive surgical procedures. We are happy that the majority of the patients who undergo HIPEC procedure can lead a normal life with continued medications and lifestyle modifications under our care long after they leave our hospital.”
Commending his multidisciplinary team, Dr Pampanagouda attributed the success of the challenging case to dedicated team spirit and years of excellent experience in performing highly successful cancer surgeries.
Speaking about his experience, Mr Tejas said, “After suffering from constant pain for long time with weight loss and reduced appetite and going through appendectomy, followed by chemotherapy and major surgery for extensive disease, being able to live a normal life has been nothing short of a miracle. I am extremely grateful to the exceptionally proficient team of doctors at HCG Cancer Centre, Double Road for their patience, care and the precise treatment to relieve me of the cancer. The team of doctors took the time to explain every aspect of the surgeries and that I must entrust myself in their caring hands.”

GROWTH CORRIDOR by R&R, an independent research division of RISE Infraventures Limited
New Delhi, 9th May 2024: Northern India is fast becoming the hot bed of the premium and affordable residential market. As one moves a little ahead of Delhi, the once-sleepy stretch between Sonipat and Panipat, is now emerging as the growth corridor of sorts for the real estate sector.
The recent survey by R&R stressed that one of the key drivers of the real estate market in Sonipat-Panipat is its proximity to the national capital, Delhi. Being situated in the National Capital Region (NCR), these cities have benefitted from the spillover effect of Delhi’s rapid urbanisation and population growth.
Vishesh Prakash, Head, R&R, shares, “Many people, especially working professionals, are looking for that suit their need, looking for holistic and affordable housing options outside Delhi, and Sonipat-Panipat offer relatively competent property prices compared to the national capital. Infrastructure development has played a crucial role in shaping the real estate landscape of Sonipat and Panipat. The region has witnessed the development of highways, expressways, and other transportation networks, which have improved connectivity and accessibility. The Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway and the Eastern Peripheral Expressway have significantly reduced travel time between Sonipat-Panipat and other parts of the NCR, making it an ideal destination for real estate investment.”
While Panipat’s geographical positioning as a transit hub ensures excellent connectivity to northern states, making it an attractive destination for businesses, industries, and professionals seeking well-connected cities for work and living; for Sonipat, an industrial agglomeration in the vicinity provide a conducive environment for real estate growth in the area, both residential and commercial.
The establishment of industrial corridors and special economic zones (SEZs) in Sonipat-Panipat stretch has also led to an influx of industries and businesses, which has created employment opportunities and stimulated housing demand.
Residential real estate development in Sonipat-Panipat has primarily focused on providing affordable housing options to middle-income homebuyers. Gated communities, integrated townships, and affordable housing projects have proliferated in the region to cater to the housing needs of the burgeoning population. Additionally, there has been a rise in demand for plotted developments and independent houses, especially among those looking for more space and customisation options.
In fact, even the commercial real estate sector in Sonipat-Panipat is witnessing steady growth, driven by the demand for office spaces, retail outlets, and commercial complexes.
Situated in the National Capital Region (NCR) of India, Sonipat-Panipat enjoys proximity to Delhi, which is a major driver for its real estate market. The strategic location offers easy access to the national capital and its economic opportunities while providing a relatively quieter and more affordable living environment compared to Delhi.
Besides, Government policies promoting urbanisation, industrial growth, and infrastructure development play a significant role in shaping the real estate market in Sonipat-Panipat. Initiatives such as ‘Housing for All’ and incentives for affordable housing projects provide impetus to the sector and encourage investment.
With all this and a lot more planned for the region, Sonipat-Panipat region can definitely be termed as the growth corridor for the real estate sector in India.
High Five:
1. Sonipat-Panipat’s proximity to Delhi, the national capital, and its location within NCR make it a highly strategic investment destination.
2. The region has witnessed significant infrastructure development, including new highways, expressways, and dedicated freight corridors.
3. The establishment of industrial corridors, special economic zones, and manufacturing clusters attract businesses to the region.
4. The region offers relatively affordable housing options than Delhi-NCR, making the region an attractive destination for homebuyers.
5. Government initiatives supporting urbanisation, infrastructure development, and industrial growth make it a potential hotspot.

Hope in Motion: Doctors Successfully Perform India’s First Robotic CRS with HIPEC for Peritoneal Surface Cancer

Chennai, – May 9th, 2024 – In a major medical breakthrough, surgical oncologists at Apollo Cancer Centre (ACC) has successfully performed India’s first Robotic Cytoreductive Surgery (CRS) with Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) for a peritoneal surface cancer. This minimally invasive, robotic-assisted approach marks a paradigm shift in treating Pseudomyxoma Peritonei (PMP), an aggressive appendix cancer, offering patients with a new standard of care, enabling faster recovery and improved quality of life.
Benefits of Robotic CRS with HIPEC
• Smaller incisions resulting in less chance of wound infections, minimal scarring and better cosmesis
• Reduced tissue trauma allowing for a quicker return of bowel function, minimal blood loss and shorter hospital stay
• The robotic system utilizes magnification to enable surgeons to precisely locate even the smallest tumor implants for removal
• Less post-operative pain, potentially reducing the need for pain medications
• Faster recovery allowing patients to resume normal routine at the earliest
Dr. Ajit Pai, Senior Consultant in Surgical Oncology and Robotic Surgery, Apollo Cancer Centre, Chennai along with his team, spearheaded this first-of-its-kind approach. The collaborative clinical expertise and unwavering dedication to transformative tech innovations at ACC, were instrumental in achieving this remarkable success.
A female patient, aged 51, was diagnosed with bilateral ovarian masses, and had extensive surgical intervention, including the removal of the uterus, ovaries, appendix, and part of the omentum. Subsequent histopathological examination revealed a high-grade mucinous tumour of the appendix with pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP), necessitating additional surgery. The patient was found to have residual mucinous implants (gelatinous deposits that remain in the abdomen post-surgery for appendicular mucinous tumors) in the pelvis and around the cecum (first part of the colon).
Due to the peculiar tendency of the appendix cancer to spread to the lining of the patient’s abdomen (peritoneum), Dr Ajit Pai and team performed minimally invasive Robotic Cytoreductive Surgery (to reduce the amount of cancer cells in the abdominal cavity) with right hemicolectomy (removing the colon which bears the appendix) and complete mesocolic excision (surgery for treating cancer arising from the colon and appendix) and peritonectomy and total omentectomy, along with Hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (heated chemotherapy with a chemo drug) eliminating any possible microscopic residual tumours inside the abdomen.
Traditionally, CRS/HIPEC has been performed as an open and an extensive operation, with a 10-12-inch incision associated with prolonged hospitalization. The Robotic CRS approach offers significant advantages as it is minimally invasive; the clinicians made use of tiny 8mm incisions for the robotic instruments, minimizing pain, blood loss, scarring and discomfort. Additionally, a single 5cm incision was used for tumour removal and the delivery of HIPEC. This novel approach translated to a faster recovery and a quicker return to normal life for the patient. At one year follow up, she remains in perfect health and cancer free.
Dr. Ajit Pai, Senior Consultant in Surgical Oncology and Robotic Surgery, Apollo Cancer Centre, said, “Robotic CRS offers a transformative approach, requiring expertise in traditional and robotic techniques for precise tumor resections. With reduced post-operative morbidity, minimal access, and quicker recovery, this method is a viable choice for patients whose cancer cells have spread to and implanted on the peritoneal surfaces in a limited manner. We are thrilled with the successful clinical outcome and the potential this approach holds for improving the lives of patients battling peritoneal surface cancers, including those from ovarian, colonic and gastric malignancies.”
Cancer winner Subarna (name changed), said, “Words cannot express my gratitude to the entire team of doctors who took care of me. This pioneering robotic approach offered hope, with faster recovery. Thanks to this innovation, I returned home sooner than expected, feeling completely normal after treatment, with a renewed sense of optimism. I am incredibly thankful to Apollo Cancer Centre for offering this life transforming procedure.”
Dr. Preetha Reddy, Executive Vice Chairperson, Apollo Hospitals Enterprises Ltd, said, ” At ACC, we understand that cutting-edge technology is just one piece of the puzzle. While we invest in the most advanced technologies available, it’s our exceptional team of clinicians who truly unlock the potential of unparalleled clinical excellence. This powerful synergy between technology, innovation and clinical expertise sets Apollo apart, enabling millions across the world to Win Over Cancer”.
Mr. Dinesh Madhavan, President Group Oncology and International, Apollo Hospitals Enterprises Ltd, said, “Robotics is revolutionizing cancer care, offering unparalleled precision and minimal invasiveness. At ACC, we leverage this technology to enhance treatment outcomes, reduce recovery times, and provide our patients with the most advanced therapies available today. This is India’s first novel approach (robotic CRS and HIPEC) by our exceptional clinical team for treating peritoneal surface cancers is yet another testament to our unwavering commitment in providing patients with the best-in-class treatment.”
The estimated incidence of pseudomyxoma peritonei is approximately 1 to 4 out of a million, annually. Patients have an average age of 53 years at the time of diagnosis. Recognizing the aggressive nature and occurrence of this type of appendix cancer, particularly more in women, Apollo Cancer Centre continues to push boundaries and innovate to provide the best possible care to those battling these complex cancers.
