GlobalLogic inaugurates STEM Lab in Bengaluru, empowering future innovators

Bengaluru, India – September 20, 2024 – GlobalLogic, a digital product engineering leader and a Hitachi Group company, inaugurated its STEM Lab at Bharatiya Vidyanikethan High School, Bengaluru, today. Three cancer drugs were exempted from customs duty while reducing the levy on x-ray tubes and flat panel detectors used in x-ray machines from 15% to 5%. Lung cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths among men and it is affecting younger age groups now. Targeted therapy drugs, which cost around Rs 5 lakh a month, are holding out hope for patients as they prolong life by precisely identifying and inhibiting the growth of cancer cells. They are better than other cancer therapies.

By reducing the financial burden on the patients, this move is expected to improve access to advanced cancer treatments. Thunderstorm Titans Crowned the First Cue Sports Premier League Champion

Bengaluru, 14 May 2024: Thunderstorm Titans won the first edition of the Cue Sports Premier League 2024 organized by Bowring Institute, Bengaluru. Thunderstorm Titans led by R Santosh won 4-1 out of 7 games against Summer Tuskers led by Sourav Kothari. Rajesh Bajaj, Director of Embassy Group, and Raghavendra Y R, Chairman of Billiards – Bowring Institute handed over the trophy to the winners in the presence of Top Actress Ragini Dwivedi, and Mr. H S Srikanth, Secretary of Bowring amongst other dignitaries.

In the first match of the final, Snooker Singles, Manan Chandra of Thunderstorm Titans defeated Sourav Kothari from Summer Tuskers to take an early lead in the final. The second, third, and fourth matches of the finals were snooker doubles that saw Titans Beating Tuskers in the first and second doubles, while Tuskers won the third doubles.

In the 5th Frame R Santosh, the Captain of the Titans defeated D Rajkumar on the black ball to take the championship, 13-time national champion, Manan Chandra grabbed all the attention in the finals as he showed tremendous concentration and perseverance to grind out a closely contested long-drawn match that ultimately sealed the win for the Titans. Manan Chandra was chosen as the best player of the tournament. The emerging Player of the league was Daivik Bansi, the Highest break of the league was by Brijesh Damani, The Best pair of the league was Sri Hari and Kushal.

The First Edition of ‘Cue Sports Premier League’ to be held from 4th May 2024

Bengaluru, 26 April 2024: Bowring Institute announced the first edition of Cue Sports Premier League (CSPL), a national-level Snooker tournament in the city today. The tournament will be held at the South Pavilion Snooker Arena, Bowring Institute, Bengaluru from 4th May to 10th May 2024. Noted champions including Padma Bhushan and 27-time World Billiards Champion, Pankaj Advani, and Arjuna Awardees including Aditya Mehta, Sourav Kothari, and National Women’s Champion Vidya Pillai will feature in the first edition of CSPL.

Embassy Group will be the title sponsor of the inaugural edition of Cue Sports Premier League. The organizers have also roped in Audi as a co-sponsor.

The tournament which will be played at one of the best Snooker Arena in the country at Bowring Institute will be telecasted live on the Club Liv app.

A total of 56 players including both international and national players from across the country will participate in the first edition of the Cue Sports Premier League. These players were selected via auction held in Bengaluru on 20th April 2024, by eight teams that will be competing in the first edition of CSPL 2024.

The eight teams competing in the league are named Lightning Legion, Cyclone Crusaders, Summer Tuskers, Hurricane Hawks, Thunderstorm Titans, Tornado Tigers, Whirlwind Warriors, and Monsoon Mavericks.

The CSPL will be played in a league format where all the teams will play against each other once and the top 4 teams will play in the semi-finals and the final will be played on 10th May 2024. The matches will be played in a 7-frame format, with the first six frames having a mix of Singles and Doubles involving the National, State, and Club Categories. The match format has the best National Players playing alongside the State and Club Players, allowing them to pass on their experience and knowledge. The league also introduces a one-of-a-kind shootout as the 7th frame of every match which brings added and new excitement to the game of Cue Sports.

The Bowring Institute South Pavilion features a state-of-the-art snooker arena that boasts of 7 snooker tables, with a seating capacity of 140+ with live streaming facilities for the matches. The league will be played on World Championship Star Xingpai and Rasson Tables.

Centre for Knowledge Sovereignty (CKS) and Esri India Enter the Pilot Phase of the MMGEIS Program

23 February 2024, Bengaluru: The Centre for Knowledge Sovereignty (CKS) and Esri India announced today the launch of the Pilot program of the Master Mentors Geo-enabling Indian Scholars (MMGEIS) program. Shri A. S. Kiran Kumar, Former Chairperson, ISRO addressed the media along with Dr K. J. Ramesh, Former Director General of Meteorology, IMD, Lt. Gen. Girish Kumar (Retd), Former Surveyor General of India, Shri Vinit Goenka, Secretary, CKS and Shri Agendra Kumar, Managing Director, Esri India. The pilot phase of the program will cover 1000 students across India.

MMGEIS is an online program that aims to inculcate geospatial thinking and develop a research-oriented mindset amongst students from 8th grade to undergraduate level who will form the future workforce of the country. The program aims to engage up to 5,00,000 students over the next five years. In 2022, India saw over 66,400 patent applications including 140 Geospatial patents. The program will work towards fostering a strong IP framework to enable more patents from India in its journey towards becoming a global geospatial innovation hub. Since the launch of the program, both organizations have given shape to their commitment towards stimulating geospatial thinking amongst students thereby accelerating the creation of Intellectual Property in the geospatial sphere in India.

A series of activities have been conducted to lay the groundwork for the MMGEIS program. Some of the notable activities include organizing a roundtable discussion of industry leaders in Delhi on 11 December 2023, facilitating the visit of 42 students from 10 cities to the ISRO Telemetry Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC) centre in Bengaluru on 13 December 2023, and launching the MMGEIS website in Delhi on 10 January 2024.

With these essential groundwork activities completed, the MMGEIS program is now entering its pilot phase. The pilot program will initially be rolled out in select schools and educational institutions, with plans for a wider implementation from June onwards this year. The MMGEIS team is committed to facilitating a transformative learning experience for students and preparing them for the and opportunities of the current digital age.

Addressing the media, Shri A S Kiran Kumar, Member, Space Commission and Former Chairman, Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) said, “It is important to enable and empower curious young Indian minds with the tools and knowledge to understand the use of geospatial technology which is rapidly encompassing all aspects of human endeavors. MMGEIS is a powerful medium that will bring to these bright minds the right guidance and skills to usher in an era of innovation in use of geospatial technology.”

Shri Agendra Kumar, Managing Director, Esri India, shared, “After successfully completing the essential groundwork activities, we are proud to launch the pilot program for MMGEIS. This pioneering initiative represents our commitment to nurturing the next generation of geospatial innovators and leaders. By equipping students with geospatial awareness and skills, we believe they will be well-prepared to tackle the challenges of the future and make a positive impact on society.”

Girish Kumar VSM, Advisor, Government of Haryana and Former Surveyor General of India highlighted, “MMGEIS program is designed to set the stage for the next level of geospatial research and innovation in our country. By mentoring promising students under the guidance of leading scientists and innovators, we are seeding for a future rich in geospatial expertise and innovation. The goal is to inculcate a way of thinking that encourages students to think differently and take up research and development in the geospatial sphere.”

Dr K. J. Ramesh, Advisor, Regional Integrated Multi-Hazard Early Warning System (RIMES) and Former Director General of Meteorology, India Meteorological Department (IMD) shared, “MMGEIS program aligns with India’s goal of becoming a developed knowledge-driven economy, recognizing that development is not just economic growth but also building human capital having innovative and analytical strengths. By equipping our youth with advanced innovative and knowledge skills, we invest in our most valuable asset – our people.
