Clean Air Day: Bramble Energy Urges Greater Investment in Hydrogen Technology to Combat Dangerous Levels of Air Pollution

Crawley, UK, 15 June 2023: Bramble Energy, a leading innovator in fuel cell technology, is proud to announce its strong support for Clean Air Day as it raises awareness for the urgent need for cleaner air and promotes sustainable transportation solutions.
Clean Air Day serves as a poignant reminder of the environmental and health challenges posed by air pollution, one of the most significant environmental threats to public health. The initiative raises awareness of the need to address this pressing issue and prioritise sustainable transportation alternatives.
Bramble Energy recognises the dangerous impact air pollution can have on physical wellbeing and mental health, and is calling for industry to take action in accelerating its uptake of hydrogen as a viable clean and zero-emission solution for transportation
The potential for hydrogen as a clean solution in a wide range of mobility industries is immense. Hydrogen vehicles emit just water vapour and have the unique ability to clean the air as they drive, further reducing emissions and improving air quality.
With an urgent need to decarbonise the high-polluting transportation sector as quickly as possible, hydrogen, especially when produced from renewable sources (Green Hydrogen), represents an alternative, sustainable route for transportation to pivot away from fossil fuelled vehicles without relying solely on battery electrification.
Dr Tom Mason, CEO of Bramble Energy, said: “Meeting net-zero targets requires a multi-energy approach across industries. While batteries will continue to improve, BEVs are not a singular, silver bullet, solution. Bramble Energy’s innovative PCBFC™ technology provides a cost-effective pathway for transport operators to transition to hydrogen without high initial investments.
“We’re committed to making hydrogen fuel cells more accessible to a wide range of industries and businesses using our PCB technology, driving us closer to the goal of achieving net-zero emissions. Hydrogen will become a major part of the zero-emission solution over the next decade but it needs the support and vision to make this reality as quickly as possible.”
With its revolutionary world’s first Printed Circuit Board (PCB) fuel cell technology (PCBFC™), Bramble Energy is poised to accelerate the transition to hydrogen mobility and contribute to a healthier and more sustainable future.
The patent protected PCBFC™ technology revolutionises the manufacturing process of fuel cells by leveraging the innovative use of Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs), a common component found in electronic products. This offers unprecedented efficiency benefits over traditional fuel cell manufacturing methods, enabling cost-effective, scalable, and rapid production of fuel cells for various applications.
Bramble Energy’s PCBFC™ digitally tooled manufacturing process reduces costs and turnaround times, which are two of the biggest barriers to hydrogen adoption, providing design, manufacture, testing, and shipping of a PCBFC™ in a matter of weeks, enabling faster deployment of hydrogen solutions.
Thanks to its lower material, production, and manufacturing costs at the stack level, Bramble Energy’s PCBFC™ technology is two to three times cheaper compared to traditional fuel cell stacks. This affordability factor, coupled with its flexibility in manufacturing and business models, makes the option of hydrogen fuel cells more accessible for a wide range of industries and businesses, driving the transition to a net-zero future.
There is a growing interest for hydrogen solutions at a government level, with projects receiving substantial support and funding initiatives. The recent allocation of £77m from the Advanced Propulsion Centre for hydrogen projects saw Bramble Energy awarded £6.3m for its lead role in the Hydrogen Electric Integrated Drivetrain Initiative (HEIDI) project where it will develop a hydrogen-powered double-deck bus, using its first-of-its-kind Printed Circuit Board (PCB) fuel cell technology.
Bramble Energy urges industry decision makers, from haulage, freight, to bus and coach fleet operators to be increasing investments in hydrogen fuel cell technologies to develop and deliver solutions that meet the growing demand for sustainable transportation.
With its potential to revolutionise the fuel cell market, Bramble Energy’s PCBFC™ technology paves the way for the widespread adoption of hydrogen in automotive, marine, and energy storage applications. By making hydrogen fuel cells more affordable and accessible, Bramble Energy is actively contributing to the realisation of a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future.

Understanding Bone Marrow Cancer
Dr. Rayaz Ahmed, Director, Department of Haematology and BMT, Max Super Speciality Hospital, Saket, New Delhi
Overview
At the centre of the bones is a soft, spongy material called the bone marrow. It consists of stem cells that give rise to RBCs, WBCs and platelets.
When these stem cells start growing abnormally or at an accelerated rate, bone marrow cancer may happen. Different types of cancer can develop in the bone marrow, such as leukaemia, multiple myeloma, lymphoma, etc.
Types
Bone marrow cancer is of the following types based on the cells affected:
- Leukaemia
Leukaemia is the type of cancer in which uncontrolled proliferation of WBCs occurs. These WBCs may be immature or mature and interfere with the body’s regular functioning. The body’s defence mechanism gets disrupted, increasing susceptibility to infections. Leukaemia is further divided into:
Acute Leukaemia:
In acute leukaemia, immature WBCs, called blasts, proliferate rapidly.(more than or equal to 20% in blood or Bone marrow)
Chronic Leukaemia:
In chronic leukaemia cases, more mature cells rapidly multiply.
- Multiple myeloma
Multiple myeloma is the type of cancer that affects plasma cells. Normal Plasma cells are responsible for making antibodies.
- Lymphoma
Lymphoma is the type of cancer in which lymphocytes rapidly multiply, forming tumours that compromise the body’s immune system. Lymphoma is of two types:
- Hodgkin’s lymphoma – affecting B lymphocytes
- Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma – involving B or T lymphocytes
Symptoms
Symptoms develop depending on the type of cancer, its location, severity, and how aggressive its progression is.
Leukaemia
Leukaemia is a cancer of the WBCs. Symptoms that patients with leukaemia would present are:
- Bone pain
- Swollen lymph nodes
- Unexplained weight loss of more than 10% body weight in a short period without specifically trying
- Petechiae on the skin (pinpoint red dots)
- Weakness and fatigue
- Frequent infections since the body’s defence mechanisms are affected
- Fever and chills
- Liver and spleen enlargement
- Bruising easily
- Night sweats
Multiple myeloma
Multiple myeloma is a common type of bone marrow cancer. Some of the symptoms are:
- Weakness and fatigue
- Increased susceptibility to infections
- Increased frequency of urination
- Confusion, increased thirst
- Pain in the bone and increased risk of fracture
- Unexplained weight loss of more than 10% body weight in a short period without specifically trying
- Nausea and vomiting
- Backache, Bony pain
- Fracture(Pathological fractures)
- Renal failure
Lymphoma
Lymphoma presents with the following symptoms:
- A persistent cough that doesn’t subside
- lymph nodes enlargement in neck, axillary, groin
- Itchy skin, the appearance of rashes or skin lumps
- Fever, weight loss, night sweats
- Loss of appetite
- Pain in the abdomen
- An enlarged spleen gives rise to a feeling of bloated all the time.
Causes
Causes of bone marrow cancer or non-specific. However, some contributing factors may be:
- Immunocompromised individuals (post-transplant or those taking immunosuppressant drugs, HIV patients)
- Exposure to harmful radiation, chemicals, fumes, pesticides
- Genetic predisposition
- Smoking and drinking
- Obesity
Diagnosis
The doctor first assesses the medical history familial history and performs a physical examination. Following tests are advised to diagnose bone marrow cancer:
- Blood and urine tests: These are done to assess kidney function, electrolyte levels, and blood cell count. A CBC (complete blood count), tumour markers, and a complete metabolic profile may help diagnose bone marrow cancer.
- A biopsy of the bone marrow may help check for the presence of cancer cells.
- Specific scans such as x-rays, PET scans, CT scans, and MRI may help detect changes in the bone structure.
The confirmatory test for bone marrow aspiration & biopsy since it provides information about the specific type of cancer. Imaging techniques help assess how much the disease has progressed. In case of suspected lymphoma, lymph node biopsy is mandatory
Treatment
The treatment of bone marrow cancer depends on multiple factors such as age, the extent of spread of cancer and the overall health of the affected individual. Considering the above factors, the doctor may advise the following treatment options:
- Chemotherapy: Specific drugs are injected into the body to find and destroy cancer cells.
- Radiation therapy: This treatment aims to reduce the size of tumour cells, lower pain, and kill cancer cells by delivering high-energy beams to a targeted organ.
- Transplant: The cancerous bone marrow can be transplanted with a healthy one. This procedure is also known as stem cell transplant. It is combined with chemotherapy and radiation therapy to prevent the risk of cancer relapse in the new and healthy bone marrow.
- Targeted drug therapy (Immunotherapy): These drugs specifically target cancer cells, unlike chemotherapy.
- Biological therapy: Immune system of the affected individual can help destroy cancer cells.(CART-T cell therapy)
Complications
If cancer is untreated, it can prove fatal owing to reduced immunity, weakness and increased susceptibility to infections.
Risk Factors
Risk factors contributing to bone marrow cancer are non-specific, and the factors given below may have a role to play:
- Compromised immune system
- Excessive exposure to harmful radiation, chemicals, fumes, pesticides
- Familial history of cancer
- Smoking and drinking
- Obesity
Prognosis
The prognosis of patients having bone marrow cancer is highly individual specific. It depends on how an individual responds to therapy and has a lot to do with their willpower, mental health, the extent of spread of cancer and underlying conditions.
Adult Acute Leukaemia are curable in 40-70% cases (childhood acute leukaemia – 80-90%)
-Lymphoma are curable 50-60% cases
-Low grade lymphoma, life can be prolonged from 10-20 yrs
– Multiple Myeloma life can be prolonged 5-8 yrs

Revenue of organised gold jewellers to rise 16-18% this fiscal

High gold prices will be the key driver amid minimal volume growth, credit outlook to remain stable
Sustained high gold prices will brighten up revenue of organised gold jewellery retailers by 16-18% this fiscal, but volume growth will remain modest driven by volatile and elevated gold prices. This comes after a stellar compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of ~35% logged during fiscals 2022 and 2023, led largely by strong volume growth, driven by pent-up demand and increased consumer spend. Average realisations during fiscals 2022 and 2023 increased at a CAGR of ~5%
Operating margin, meanwhile, is expected to moderate by up to 30 basis points to 7.8-8.0%, led by increasing promotional and store-related expenses. Still, the margin will remain above the pre-pandemic level of 6.8-7.0%. Working capital debt requirement will continue to rise as jewellers keep expanding stores, albeit at a slower pace than in the past two fiscals. Credit profile for the players will remain stable
.
A CRISIL Ratings study of 46 gold jewellery retailers, comprising ~25% of the organised jewellery sector revenue, indicates as much. For the record, the organised sector accounts for slightly more than a third of the market, with the highly fragmented unorganised sector making up the rest.
Domestic price of gold increased by ~10% last fiscal, averaging Rs 52,700 per 10 gm (24-carat) and reaching Rs 60,000 per 10 gm by end March 2023. The price further inched up to an all-time high of ~Rs 61,500 per 10 gm during May 2023, as gold kept its shine as one of the safer investment options amid an uncertain global economic outlook. High demand amid the marriage season in India and a gradual recovery in gold buying in China also contributed to the high prices.
Says Anuj Sethi, Senior Director, CRISIL Ratings, “We expect low single-digit volume growth for the organised players during fiscal 2024, given elevated gold prices. That said, organised players will continue to see modest market share gain, compared with unorganised players.”
Increase in penetration of goods and services tax, mandatory hallmarking, rising disposable income, and diversification in consumer preference in terms of jewellery designs are nudging market share towards organised players. This is also evident from the fact that gold jewellery retailers rated by CRISIL Ratings saw healthy double-digit volume increase last fiscal.
Store expansion, which grew 25-30% last fiscal after two consecutive fiscals of subdued growth, will see mid double-digit growth this fiscal. This will lead to higher inventory requirement, leading to increased working capital debt. Gross bank credit1 to the sector had declined 3% over the 12 months through March 2023 as players rationalised inventory across stores and generated healthy cash.
Says Aditya Jhaver, Director, CRISIL Ratings, “The marginal moderation in operating profitability, along with higher working capital borrowings and finance cost, will lead to a slight moderation in debt metrics this fiscal. Nonetheless, the credit profile of gold jewellery retailers will remain stable with total outside liabilities to tangible net worth ratio and interest coverage expected at 1.0-1.1 times and 8.2-8.4 times, respectively, compared with ~1.2 times and ~9.6 times, respectively, last fiscal.”

Powassan Virus – Everything you need to Know
Authored by Dr. Swati Rajagopal, Consultant – Infectious Disease & Travel Medicine, Aster CMI Hospital, Bangalore
As the world started normalizing and people overcame the havoc wreaked by the Covid-19 pandemic the fear of another pandemic is beginning to spread slowly. Known as the Powassan virus, the deadly infection is slowly spreading across America and has recently claimed the life of a person in the United States. Although rare, Powassan is an untreatable disease and medical experts are yet to find a cure for it. Learning from the Covid-19 pandemic, the Maine Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other doctors and health officials are now alerting the masses about this non-treatable virus and are educating them about its symptoms and preventive measures.
What is the Powassan virus and how can you contract it?
According to the CDC, the Powassan virus spreads to people by the bite of an infected tick. These ticks get infected by sucking the virus from the blood of groundhogs, squirrels, mice, or other rodents and spread the Powassan virus to people and other animals by feeding on them.
Currently, three types of ticks that can spread the Powassan virus to humans have been identified in the eastern half of the United States. These include –
- Ixodes cookei (groundhog tick)
- Ixodes marxi (squirrel tick), and
- Ixodes scapularis (blacklegged or deer tick)
Can ticks get infected by biting humans and is Powassan Virus a communicable disease?
As per recent research, it has been found that the Powassan virus cannot be transmitted from person to person. Furthermore, humans are also considered as the dead-end host for the Powassan virus as people do not develop high enough virus levels in their blood and thus, they cannot infect biting ticks.
The transmission of the Powassan virus from person to person can only occur in rare instances of blood transfusion or through the bite of an infected tick. Therefore, it is recommended that people who have been diagnosed with the Powassan virus must avoid donating blood or bone marrow for at least 120 days after contracting the infection as their blood can infect another person and may lead to the development of a viral chain reaction.
What are the symptoms of the Powassan virus?
While many people infected with the Powassan virus do not show any symptoms, however, the ones with symptoms the time duration from tick bite to feeling sick usually ranges from 1 week to 1 month. The signs and symptoms of the Powassan include –
- Fever
- Headache
- Vomiting
- Weakness
- Severe Brain and Spine diseases like Encephalitis and Meningitis
- Confusion
- Loss of Coordination
- Difficulty in speaking
- Seizures
To date, it has been found that approximately 1 out of 10 people with severe disease die and roughly half of the people who survive severe Brain and Spine disease have long-term health problems such as recurring headaches, loss of muscle mass and strength, and memory problems.
How can you prevent yourself from the Powassan virus?
Currently, there are no vaccines or medications to stop or restrict the spread of the Powassan virus. However, you can prevent yourself from getting sick with the Powassan virus by following the below-mentioned tips –
- Avoiding the areas such as grassy, brushy, or wooded places where ticks can be easily found
- Check your clothes for ticks and remove them by washing them with hot water or by applying a dryer
- Examine your pets for ticks
- Shower as soon as you are indoors
- Conduct a full body check for ticks
In case you are experiencing any of the above symptoms or have a tick bite then you must consult your nearest healthcare provider.

Chopard at the 1000 Miglia 2023
The Maison’s 36th appearance as world sponsor and official timekeeper
Chopard is proud to return to Brescia for the 36th time in succession as the World Sponsor and Official Timekeeper of the 1000 Miglia – otherwise known as ‘the most beautiful race in the world’.The partnership represents one of the longest in history between a watchmaker and an automobile event, signifying Chopard’s well-known love of classic cars and its passion for motorsport. That passion is further confirmed by the fact that 2023 marks the 35th occasion that Chopard co-president Karl-Friedrich Scheufele will compete in the race from Brescia to Rome and back, having first taken part in 1989 with six-times Le Mans 24 Hours winner Jacky Ickx in the navigator’s seat. The pair will team-up again this year (as on more than a dozen previous occasions), once more tackling the gruelling course in the instantly recognisable ‘metallic raspberry’ Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing in which they made their 1000 Miglia debut. And, of course, Chopard will continue its tradition of introducing new Mille Miglia timepieces, with four Mille Miglia Classic Chronographs, plus an additional, very special ‘Italian Limited Edition’ of the Mille Miglia GTS Chronograph – some of the proceeds from which will be donated to victims of the recent Emilia-Romagna flood disaster.

A new route, a new city – and an extra day
The 1000 Miglia was first run in 1927 but –in keeping with its reputation for never growing old–this year’s event features a new route and will be run over the course of five days rather than the usual four. For the first time the race will incorporate a section from Parma to Milan, a city never before included in the 1000 Miglia and the location from which the 405 starters will make their home run to Brescia on the final day (Saturday, June 17th).
In between, the course takes them in a clockwise direction, with day one ending in an overnight stop on the coast atCervio-Milano Marittima. An early start on Wednesday sends the group to the tiny, hilltop republic of San Marino (the fifth smallest country in the world) and up to 300 metres above sea level for a lunch break in Macerata, a town renowned for its striking palazzos and annual opera festival. The day finishes in Rome when the cars will parade around the city, followed by a dawn start on Thursday for the six-hour run to lunch in Siena (scene of the historic Palio horse race).

After tackling the famous Abertone Pass – frequently used by Ferrari’s test drivers – the crews end-up in Parma where they spend the night before heading out on Friday morning to begin the ‘home run,’ stopping at Piacenza military airport to mark the centenary of the AeronauticaMilitareItaliana. After lunch in Alessandria and a further five hours on the road, the competitors will check-in at the new Milan time control point before dinner and a well-earned night’s rest.
A civilised 8am start on Saturday marks the beginning of the final 100 kilometres of the course, which will take the surviving cars back to the finish at Brescia where they will parade along the tree-lined Viale Venezia.
Two cars compete for Team Chopard
In addition to the Mercedes 300SL Gullwing crewed by Karl-Friedrich Scheufele and Jacky Ickx, Chopard Ambassadors Zhu Yilong, the acclaimed Chinese actor, and Romain Dumas, the celebrated endurance racing driver, will also compete under the ‘Team Chopard’ banner in a 1955 Porsche 356 Speedster.
A pre-start dinner in a stunning setting
But before the flag drops to wave the first car off the Brescia start ramp on Tuesday (June 13th), Karl-Friedrich Scheufele will host a special welcome dinner at the beautiful and historic L’Albereta hotel, just 20km from Brescia and close to the shores of Lake Iseo within the breathtakingly beautiful Lombardy countryside. Here, guests will discover the new Mille Miglia Classic Chronograph collection that celebrates this year’s race – maintaining Chopard’s tradition of creating an all-new, dedicated design that has prevailed each year since 1988.
The 2023 Mille Miglia watches – the tradition continues
Comprising four new models crafted in Chopard’s exclusive Lucent Steel™ (50 per cent more resilient than regular steel and incorporating material recycled from the medical, aerospace, car and watch industries), the 40mm chronographs are fitted either with Maison’s signature rubber strap based on the pattern of a ‘60s Dunlop race tyreor a rich brown calfskin leather strap evoking traditional driving gloves.

What makes this year’s Mille Miglia Classic Chronographs extra-special, however, are their dials: each of the four variations is based on the paint hues and interior finishes typically found on the type of pre-1957 cars that are eligible for the 1000 Miglia. That means a choice of Rosso Amarena (cherry red), Grigio-Blu (grey blue), Verde Chiaro (light green) andNero Corsa (racing black). In keeping with a 36-year tradition, each watch carries a miniature ‘1000 Miglia’ route marker on its dial and case back.
In addition to the Mille Miglia Classic Chronographs, Chopard has also produced a very special version of its larger Mille Miglia GTS Chrono.Being made from Lucent Steel™ in just 100 examples, part of the proceeds from each sale will be donated to victims of the devastating floods that swept through the Emilia-Romagna region in early May. This 44mm edition carries the green and red colours of Italy, with its olive green bezel featuring a tachymeter scale for speed and distance calculations. Further marking-out the ‘form and function’ nature of Chopard’s Mille Miglia watches, the Mille Miglia GTS Chrono Limited Edition Italy is also fitted with substantial ‘mushroom’ pushers and a large diameter crown to provide a firm grip and ease of use while on the road.
Both the Chopard Mille Miglia Classic Chronograph editions and the Mille Miglia GTS Chrono Limited Edition Italyare the prefect watches for anyone taking part in ‘the most beautiful race in the world’ as well as for those who follow it.And whether you are one or the other, we wish you a thrilling but safe journey to the finish.
