National Engineering Day: Only 10% of 1.5 Million Indian Graduates Likely to Find Jobs This Year
National 14th September 2024: Engineering has long been a cornerstone of India’s development, emerging as one of the most preferred career choices, shaping the nation’s innovation, infrastructure, and progress. As we celebrate National Engineering Day, honoring the critical contributions of engineers in driving the country’s growth, India proudly stands as a leader in producing engineering talent, with nearly 1.5 engineers graduating annually. However, despite this impressive output, the employability of our engineering graduates remains a significant challenge. Central to the theme of ‘Creating Solutions for a Sustainable World,’ the growing skills gap among engineering graduates emphasizes the need for a more comprehensive approach to workforce readiness. TeamLease Degree Apprenticeship has been at the forefront of addressing this issue by integrating practical, hands-on training with academic knowledge to better align engineering talent with industry demands. As we work toward a sustainable future, addressing the employability challenges faced by young engineers is crucial.
Recent statistics indicate that employability among engineering graduates stands over 60%, with only 45% meeting industry standards. Furthermore, a mere 10% of the 1.5 million engineers expected to graduate this fiscal year are anticipated to secure employment. These statistics highlight a significant disparity in the preparedness of engineering graduates to fulfill industry demands. The diminishing rate of placements can be attributed to the evolving job landscape propelled by rapid technological advancements, emphasising the pressing need for a stronger focus on enhancing employability through skill development.
Furthermore, NASSCOM has projected that India’s technology sector will require over 1 million engineers with advanced skills in Artificial Intelligence and other cutting-edge technologies within the next 2-3 years. Additionally, the demand-supply gap for digital talent is poised to widen from the current 25% to almost 30% by 2028. The escalating demand, fueled by the rise of AI, Electric Vehicles (EVs), semiconductors, and the growing electronics industry, underscores a critical challenge regarding the employability of engineering graduates. As industries increasingly seek expertise in domains such as cybersecurity, IT, robotics, and data science, it is evident that conventional academic education alone is inadequate. To address this skills gap, essential measures involve the amalgamation of technical education with hands-on vocational training. The National Education Policy (NEP) recognizes this necessity and advocates for experiential learning models and apprenticeships that blend theoretical knowledge with real-world application.
Sharing insights on building skills and the critical need to enhance the employability of engineering youth, A.R. Ramesh, CEO of TeamLease Degree Apprenticeship, emphasized the widening gap between academic excellence and industry needs, particularly in emerging fields like semiconductors, AI, and automation. To bridge this widening gap, apprenticeships and internships have emerged as indispensable pathways, effectively integrating academic learning with practical experience. Innovative solutions like the Managed Training Services (MTS) program offer an efficient alternative to conventional induction programs, significantly enhancing job readiness through intensive, industry-focused training. By equipping engineers with technical expertise and critical 21st-century skills, our MTS programs facilitate their seamless assimilation into the workforce”. He further shared his insights that “There is the necessity for stronger academia-industry collaborations and continually aligning curricula with global market demands to enhance the employability and industry-readiness of engineering graduates.”
Adding on, Dhriti Prasanna Mahanta, Vice President and Chief Business Officer at TeamLease Degree Apprenticeship said “The need to enhance employability of today’s youth is more pressing than ever, given the significant surge in demand for skilled engineers, especially in the electronics and electrical engineering industries. The future of our industries hinges on a workforce that is not only academically prepared but also equipped with the practical, on-the-job skills that employers value. Apprenticeships bridge this gap by offering structured, hands-on training alongside formal education, ensuring that young professionals are work-ready from day one. With real-world experience and mentorship, apprentices can develop the critical skills required to meet the growing demands of the industry, a win-win for both professionals and companies. By directing attention towards apprenticeships, the immediate demand for engineers can be met while laying the groundwork for sustained sectoral growth and innovation. The strategic investment in enhancing the employability of youth is deemed paramount for establishing a sustainable talent pipeline for the future.

Global telecom leaders join forces to redefine the industry with network APIs
Today, some of the world’s largest telecom operators, including América Móvil, AT&T, Bharti Airtel, Deutsche Telekom, Orange, Reliance Jio, Singtel, Telefonica, Telstra, T-Mobile, Verizon and Vodafone, together with Ericsson are announcing a new venture to combine and sell network Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) on a global scale to spur innovation in digital services. Network APIs are the way to easily access, use and pay for network capabilities. The venture will drive implementation and access to common APIs from multiple telecom service providers to a broader ecosystem of developer platforms.
Modern mobile networks have advanced and intelligent capabilities, which have historically been inaccessible to developers. Additionally, it has been impractical for developers to integrate the different capabilities of hundreds of individual telecom operators. The newly formed company will combine network APIs globally, with a vision that new applications will work anywhere and on any network, making it easier and quicker for developers to innovate.
Easily accessible advanced network capabilities will open up the next frontier in app development and empower developers to create new use cases across many sectors. These could include anti-fraud verification for financial transactions and the ability to check device status so streaming providers can dynamically adjust video quality.
The newly formed company will provide network APIs to a broad ecosystem of developer platforms, including hyperscalers (HCPs), Communications Platform as a Service (CPaaS) providers, System Integrators (SIs) and Independent Software Vendors (ISVs), based on existing industry-wide CAMARA APIs (the open-source project driven by the GSMA and the Linux Foundation). Vonage and Google Cloud will partner with the new company, providing access to their ecosystems of millions of developers as well as their partners. The new venture shareholders will bring funding and important assets, including Ericsson’s platform and network expertise, global telecom operator relationships, knowledge of the developer community and each telecom operator’s network APIs, expertise and marketing.
Additional telecom operators are encouraged to join the new company, further driving the industry and developer experience, and allowing all participants to tap into a significant new revenue opportunity, such as telecom operator Three Sweden (Hi3G Access) which is already in discussions.
Closing of the transaction is expected early 2025, subject to regulatory approvals and other customary conditions. Upon closing, Ericsson will hold 50% of the equity in the venture while the telecom providers will hold 50% in total. Built on a deep understanding of developer and enterprise needs and in keeping with the industry-body GSMA Open Gateway principles, the new venture’s platform and partner ecosystem will remain open and non-discriminatory to maximize value creation across the industry.

Indian Immunologicals Limited (IIL) launches multiple Indigenous In-vitro Fertilization Media for Embryo Transfer
Bhubaneswar, 13th Sept 2024 – Indian Immunologicals Limited (IIL), a leading vaccine manufacturer, has announced the launch of “Shashthi” an indigenous In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) media developed in collaboration with National Dairy Development Board (NDDB). This launch of IVF media would make the IVF technology more affordable to farmers, reducing costs and enhancing the farmer-centric model of animal husbandry and dairy development. This will promote self-reliance and reduce dependency on imported media and aligns with the vision of “Atmanirbhar Bharat”.

In vitro fertilization (IVF) is a significant advancement in reproductive technology. IVF involves fertilizing an egg in a controlled laboratory environment and selecting the healthiest embryos for transfer. During the last couple of years, Ovum Pick Up and In vitro Embryo Production (OPU-IVEP) have emerged as a replacement for the in vivo embryo production technique. It is envisaged that using this technology to multiply the superior bovine germplasm can change the face of dairying in India.
Presently, around 8,000 to 10,000 embryos are transferred annually in India, leading to the birth of approximately 2,000 to 2,500 calves, benefiting same number of farmers. However, with increasing coverage of IVF and generous government subsidies, this penetration is expected to rise significantly.
Globally, OPU-IVEP-ET is on a rising trend, with around 15.95 lakh IVF embryos produced during 2022, as per information from the International Embryo Technology Society (IETS). In India, the adoption of OPU-IVEP technology is gradually increasing, thanks to recent emphasis from the Government of India (GoI). However, several challenges hinder its widespread application in the field. One of the most significant obstacles is the high cost of the media required for various procedures. Approximately 50% of the total cost of embryo production isttributeed to the media. The complete reliance on imported commercial media significantly increases the overall cost of embryo production, posing a barrier to the widespread adoption of this technology in India.
To address this high cost of media in the OPU-IVEP process, the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) and Indian Immunologicals Limited (IIL), Hyderabad, have collaboratively developed a panel of indigenous IVF media.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Meenesh Shah, Chairman NDDB mentioned “Launch of indigenous IVF media suite developed by NDDB with its subsidiary Indian Immunologicals Ltd is a historic moment in the saga of “Atmanirbhar Bharat” and “Make in India”. Use of Embryo transfer using IVF has been increasing worldwide to accelerate the genetic progress. With recent emphasis and support from the GoI under Rashtriya Gokul Mission, 36 IVF laboratories have been established. Presently, all IVF laboratories are using imported IVF media which is not only costly, it has limited shelf life. Indigenous IVF media suite will help reducing the cost of embryo production facilitating acceptability of the technology for our dairy farmers”.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr K Anand Kumar, Managing Director, Indian Immunologicals Limited said, “IIL is the first in India to get into the manufacturing of a series of Indigenous IVF media. The current cost of commercial media, per embryo is Rs. 1,000.00. In contrast, the indigenously developed media is 33% less than the imported media and would costs Rs. 650.00 per embryo. This reduction in the cost of media would lead to decrease in the cost of embryos and, subsequently, the cost of pregnancies”.
The Central Monitoring Unit, DADF, GoI, collected data from 22 functional IVF labs in India until June 2023. These labs produced around 30,000 embryos over three years, transferring approximately 16,000 embryos and resulting in the birth of 3000 calves. There is growing demand for IVF in India and is expected to rise to 75,000 embryos per year. By focusing on indigenous IVF media development, India can meet its internal demand affordably, benefiting both farmers and the economy.

Safeguarding Against DLL Sideloading (Trojan) Attacks: Leveraging ThreatCloud AI’s Threat Emulation Engine as an answer

By-Harish Kumar GS, Head of Sales, India and SAARC, Check Point Software Technologies
Different levels of attacks are slowing growing in the community – beyond just your usual phishing or deepfakes attempts. This sophisticated new malware/trojan attack is designed to steal login credentials and credit card information from payment systems, banks and crypto exchanges. This attack also tricks legitimate business applications into running compromised but innocent-looking dynamic link library (DLL) files — making it very difficult to detect and block.
An organization in India is being attacked on average 2927 times per week in the last 6 months, compared to 1368 attacks per organization globally. In Q4 2022, India recorded over 300 million cases of malware attacks per day, accounting for 5.81% of the global virus count. Specifically, 41% of the malware detected in India was a Trojan, while 33% was an infector. The Mirai botnet malware attack targeted home routers and IoT devices, affecting 2.5 million devices in the country. Other notable attacks include the Petya ransomware, which caused a computer lockdown and disrupted operations at one of India’s largest seaports, and the BSNL malware attack, which impacted nearly 2,000 broadband modems, rendering 60,000 of them dysfunctional.
DLL sideloading is a technique used by cybercriminals to execute malicious code on a target system by exploiting the way Windows loads dynamic link libraries (DLLs). This blog explores how Check Point’s advanced Threat Emulation engines, part of Infinity ThreatCloud AI, detected and prevented a DLL Sideloading attack on one of our customers.
How does DLL Sideloading Work?
Sideloading abuses the common Window’s process that allows the operating system to load applications. Hackers accomplish this exploit in three steps:
Identification: The attacker identifies a vulnerable application that can be exploited
Malicious DLL: The attacker places a seemingly legitimate but compromised DLL file in a directory. When an application runs, it searches for required DLLs in specific directories. If the attacker’s DLL is present in one of these directories, it gets automatically loaded alongside the legitimate application.
Execution of Malicious Code: The compromised DLL contains the attacker’s payload. By sideloading it, the attacker can execute their malicious code within the context of the legitimate application.
The primary advantage of DLL sideloading for cybercriminals is that a legitimate application loads a malicious DLL, making it challenging to identify, as the DLL is executed within the context of the trusted application.
Casbaneiro: A DLL Sideloading Case Study
One of Check Point’s customers in Mexico were being targeted by a new version of the Latin American banking trojan, “Casbaneiro.” This malware utilizes legitimate resources from Amazon and GitHub to carry out DLL sideloading attacks.
The malware employed a seemingly innocent executable, originally named “identity_helper.exe” and renamed “mssedge.exe,” to sideload a malicious DLL named “msedge_elf.dll.”
