World Teachers’ Day Celebrated by the World Academy of Higher Education and Development (W-AHEAD)
World Teachers Day is celebrated by the World Academy of Higher Education and Development, W-AHEAD at the India Internation Centre, New Delhi on the 5th & 6th of October 2024. The event also included the Higher Education Summit 2024 and the conferment of the Fellow of Eminence Award upon educationists and professionals of exceptional merit who served with distinction and integrity during their long professional lives and contributed to nation-building and service to the global community.
Shri Ram Nath Thakur, Hon’ble Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare was the Chief Guest, Prof Priyaranjan Trivedi, Executive Chairman of W-AHEAD delivered the welcome address and Prof PB Sharma, President of W-AHEAD presided over the function attended by a galaxy of eminent academicians, scholars, eminent professionals from the industry and corporate, members of faculty and students from selected colleges of Delhi University and reputed schools of Delhi.

Hyderabad Declaration: AMR and Oral Health Take Center Stage at G-SPARC 2024
Hyderabad, October 05, 2024: The three-day Global South Conference on Infection Prevention, Control and Antimicrobial Stewardship(G-SPARC)-2024 which is being attended by well over 2000 delegates concluded on Saturday evening.

R Govind Hari, Co-Chair, G-SPARC 2024 gave a welcome address.
The organisers have unveiled G-SPARC 2024, Hyderabad Declaration. Two White papers on AMR and State Action Plans for containment in India and Oral Health and AMR Declaration. It presented 21 recommendations in its Hyderabad Declaration. The following are a few highlights of the 21 recommendations.
The declaration said AMR is a manmade disaster and has to be fought by concerted action.
Countries must institute effective and efficient surveillance and monitoring mechanisms.
Strong collaborations must be forged between Global South countries. The countries must support each other and stop the emergence of AMR and newer strains.
All countries in the global south must articulate strategies and action plans to combat AMR.
The high-income countries in the world should allocate a healthy proportion of their GDP to help Global South countries to fight AMR.
To see that at least 60% of countries have funded national action plans on AMR by 2030.
The Global Anti-Microbial Resistance Multi-Partner Trust Fund mooted by the UNGA (United Nations General Assembly) should prioritize countries of the Global South.
UNGA should target that at least 70% of Antibiotics used for Human Health globally should belong to the WHO Access Group Antibiotics with relatively minimal side effects and potential to cause AMR.
The One Health approach should be the cornerstone of all AMR activities.
Adequate funding should be earmarked for awareness campaigns
It strongly recommended that across the Global South, no Antibiotics including topical preparations should be dispensed without a qualified health practitioner’s prescription
G-Sparc calls for India’s remaining g states and union territories to develop and implement state-level Action Plans by 2026.
Every health facility must have an Infection, Prevention, Control and AMR committee
Community engagements are critical in reducing AMR and improving IPC practices.
During the closing ceremony, three MoUs were signed and exchanged.
One MoU was signed and exchanged between PRASHO & Oxford Brookes to Design and Offer Academic Programs to improve public health capacity including in WASH, IPC & AMS. The MoU was exchanged between Dr. Sarah Howcutt, Lead of Public Health & Sri. R Govind Hari, Chairman, PRASHO.
The second MoU was between SCIINV from Telangana, India & Microbira UK. Two prominent startups who are building digital tools for improving AMR diagnostic capacity to form a Joint Venture to jointly invest & further develop tools for containment of AMR. Dr. Marianne Ismail of Microbira, Dr. Ratnakar, Dr. Pradeep and Mr. Krishna Burri from SCIINV participated and exchanged the MoU.
The 3rd MoU was signed between ICAN & IFCAI, for a deeper collaboration for improving policy and practices of IPC and AMS in Global South. Prof. Chedli Azouzz and Prof. Ranga Reddy Burri exchanged the MoU.
Awards were presented to five leaders in AMR and IPC (Infection Prevention Control) and Three hospitals for best practices in AMR. They include Prof. Purva Mathur – AIIMS Delhi; Prof. Chedili Azzouz, Chairman, ICAN; Dr. Anuj Sharma – WHO India Country Office; Ms. Shailaja Teacher – fomer. Health Minister Kerala. She was not present in person to receive the same. Dr. Annie Thakore received the Award on her behalf.
The other recipients were Prof. Shaheen Mehtar – South Africa. Mr. Nkwan Jacob Gobte, Honorary Secretary, ICAN received her behalf.
Awards for excellence in the IPC & AMS Hospitals category were presented to AIIMS, Delhi, Dr. Purva Mathur received the award; Continental Hospitals, Dr. Guru N Reddy received the award and Pranaam Hospitals, Dr. Maneesh Gour received it on behalf of the hospital.
The objective of the conference was to provide a platform for Infection Prevention and Control (IPC), Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), and Patient Safety stakeholders from Global South.

FICCI’s Two-Day R&D Summit to Promote Innovation in India’s S&T Sector
New Delhi: The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) is set to host the FICCI Bharat R&D Summit 2024 on October 3rd and 4th at Federation House, New Delhi. This two-day event will bring together thought leaders from industry, academia, and government to explore avenues for collaboration in research and development (R&D) and innovation.

Restoring Hope in the Aftermath: SEEDS’ Lifesaving Support for Women and Children in Assam’s 2024 Floods
In 2024, Assam once again faced the devastating impacts of severe flooding, displacing thousands and threatening the lives of vulnerable communities. Among the most affected were women and children, who found themselves grappling with the loss of shelter, security, and access to essential services. In the face of these overwhelming challenges, efforts to restore hope and rebuild lives became vital, focusing on providing immediate relief and long-term support to help these communities recover.
Amid the crisis, SEEDS (Sustainable Environment and Ecological Development Society), an organization with 30 years of experience in disaster recovery and resilience, stepped forward to provide crucial relief to vulnerable communities. The floods, which began on June 18, 2024, left many areas waterlogged and isolated, forcing families to relocate to higher ground using makeshift floating vessels made from bamboo and banana trees. With power outages lasting for weeks and water supplies halted for over 20 days, the challenges faced by the affected communities were immense.
SEEDS focused its relief efforts on three severely impacted Gram Panchayats in Karimganj district of Assam: Suprakandi, Nilambazar, and Charkuri, prioritizing marginalized communities, women-led households, and elderly individuals who relied on small-scale agriculture and labor for their livelihoods. These areas were among the hardest hit, with damaged sanitation infrastructure, contaminated water sources, and schools closed for over a month.
SEEDS’ Lifesaving Response to Assam’s Flood Crisis
SEEDS responded swiftly to assist families affected by the flooding in Assam, providing immediate aid to those in need. Food kits containing rice, wheat flour, dal, oil, and spices were distributed to 1,282 households, providing them with the essential supplies to survive in the wake of disaster. Additionally, 2,178 households received hygiene kits. These kits ensured basic sanitation and health in a challenging environment where access to clean water and hygiene was severely disrupted. The road to recovery was challenging. With many areas cut off by floodwaters, SEEDS used boats and local vessels to reach affected villages, setting up distribution points to ensure families received urgent aid. Alongside food and hygiene kits, SEEDS provided shelter kits to 891 families and repaired 11 handpumps, restoring safe drinking water to the communities. These immediate interventions laid the groundwork for a more significant focus—creating secure environments for women and children.
Child-Friendly Spaces: Nurturing a Future of Hope
One of SEEDS most transformative contributions to flood recovery was the establishment of Child-Friendly Spaces (CFS) in Suprakandi and surrounding wards. In total, 11 CFS centers were set up, offering a sanctuary for 392 children during one of the most vulnerable times of their lives. These spaces were more than just shelters; they were hubs of informal education, play, and psychosocial support. Children in these spaces found an escape from the trauma of the flood crisis. CFS centers gave them a sense of normalcy and structure, allowing them to engage in learning and recreational activities in a safe and nurturing environment. More than that, these spaces became centers of protection, shielding children from the physical and emotional stress brought about by the disaster. The overwhelmingly positive response from the community demonstrated how crucial these spaces were in helping children cope and heal.
Ensuring Safety and Health: SEEDS’ Support for Women in Assam’s Flood-Affected Communities
While children were being cared for in CFS centers, SEEDS focused its attention on another critical issue—women’s safety and well-being. SEEDS baseline findings revealed alarming gaps in the relief camps. Women and adolescent girls lacked privacy and proper safety arrangements, leaving them feeling unsafe in these communal spaces. Many chose to return home, despite the risk, to sleep in homes partially submerged in water. In response, SEEDS launched initiatives specifically aimed at addressing the concerns of women in these difficult times. In partnership with Anganwadi Workers (AWW), Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA), and Village Development Police (VDC), SEEDS organized women’s meetings and awareness programs. These sessions focused on safe menstrual hygiene practices during disasters, prevention of gender-based violence in relief camps, and ways for women to safeguard their personal safety. Additionally, SEEDS incorporated health education into these programs, covering essential topics like preventing diarrhea, proper ORS preparation, and maintaining a safe water chain. These awareness programs were repeated multiple times in each ward, ensuring that no one was left behind. Through these efforts, SEEDS reached 687 women and adolescent girls, providing them with crucial information and protection during the recovery process.
Building Resilience for the Future
Beyond the immediate relief, SEEDS is committed to helping these communities build long-term resilience. Recognizing that floods are a recurring threat in Assam, SEEDS advocates for flood-resilient infrastructure, such as raised toilets and flood-proof homes. In collaboration with local authorities, SEEDS continues to push for solutions that will help these communities withstand future disasters. One of the key strategies SEEDS recommends is the cash-for-work program, which would provide a dual benefit—helping communities recover while stimulating the local economy. Additionally, WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) committees are being trained within villages to ensure long-term health and hygiene improvements, creating a culture of preparedness that will last far beyond this crisis. As SEEDS continues its work in Assam, it remains focused on empowering women and children, not just through immediate relief but also by addressing the deep-rooted social issues that make these groups vulnerable in times of disaster. By promoting women’s education, protection, and safety, SEEDS is helping to build a future where communities are not only able to recover from floods but also thrive in the face of them.

Mainly, this investment will enable Mobileware Technologies to bridge the gap between financial services and technology by enhancing its flagship API banking platform, TransXT, also known as ‘Bank in a Box.’ Currently, TransXT serves over 80 banks and 20 fintech companies, either through direct banking relationships or system integrator (SI) partnerships. Mobileware provides seamless, secure digital payment solutions including NPCI-certified UPI, IMPS, BBPS, and AePS switches.
