Mind-Body Wellness Day: 5 Steps to Achieve Balance for a Healthier Life
By-Ms. Soumita Biswas, Chief Clinical Nutritionist, Aster RV Hospital
Every year, International Mind-Body Wellness Day reminds us that our mind and emotional well-being is intertwined with our physical health. Observed worldwide, the importance of adopting a holistic approach to wellness encourages people to nourish both their minds and their bodies in achieving perfect balance in life.
Mind-Body Connection: Why It Matters
The human mind and body are incredibly interrelated in such a profound way that affects each other directly. A stressful workday may come out as tension headaches or digestive issues, while regular physical exercise can improve mood and reduce symptoms of anxiety. This gives a reciprocal link, making attention to both types of health issues even more salient. On Mind-Body Wellness Day, an effort is invited to incorporate harmony-inducing habits into one’s life.
Pillars of Mind-Body Wellness
· Practice Mindfulness
Perhaps the greatest way to build well-being is through mindfulness. Meditation and deep-breathing can make an incredible difference in the clarity of mind and even diminish stress. Not only are emotional benefits possible with mindfulness practices but also physical: lowered blood pressure, cortisol, and heart rate, as well as increased blood flow to the brain. It takes only five to ten minutes a day of mindfulness to produce dramatic improvements in focus and emotional toughness.
· Make Healthy Lifestyle Choices
Wellness is based on a balanced lifestyle. Energy and optimum health require regular physical activity, a nutrient-rich diet, and correct sleep patterns. On Mind-Body Wellness Day, take some time to review your habits. Are you moving enough throughout the day? Are your meals providing your body with the right fuel? Small changes, such as exchanging processed snacks with fresh fruits or sticking to a fixed bedtime, can make a huge difference.
· Adopt a Digital Detox
Hyper-connected environments often add to the list of time spent on a screen, which is likely to increase mental weariness and mess up sleep cycles. Technology-detached breaks for refreshing the mind, such as soaking in natural peace by spending some time outdoors, are important. Simply taking a stroll in a park is enough to brighten moods, improve attention, and calm the body.
· Spend time with oneself
Take a few quiet moments each day to review your mental and physical state. Identify areas of imbalance—be it work-related stress, lack of sleep, or otherwise neglected personal goals—and search out ways to restore balance. Strategies such as journaling, gratitude can provide clarity and allow for the setting of achievable goals.
· Foster Social Connections
Humans are creatures of social existence, and, therefore, interaction plays a paramount role in healthy mental conditions. On this day, prioritize fostering connections that bring joy and support. Whether it’s a heartfelt conversation with a loved one or participating in community activities, these interactions can act as buffers against stress and improve emotional well-being. Social ties have also been linked to a reduced risk of depression and anxiety.
This day becomes an excellent moment to revisit habits that bring a closer relationship between mind and body, attend wellness workshops, participate in a yoga class, or merely dedicate the whole day to oneself. One would use the moment to align their goals and desires, therefore developing a new life with a better sense of direction and vitality.
With mindfulness, healthy habits, and positive relationships woven into the fabric of the daily routine, one can unlock a life of greater well-being and fulfilment. Celebrate this day with the reminder that small, consistent efforts can bring profound transformations.

Blood Clot in the Brain During Pregnancy: A Comprehensive Overview

By-Dr. N Sapna Lulla, Lead Consultant – Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Aster CMI Hospital, Bangalore
Pregnancy is a transformative period marked by significant physiological changes. While most pregnancies progress smoothly, some may involve complications that require immediate medical attention. One such complication is the formation of a blood clot in the brain, also known as cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST). Although rare, this condition can have serious consequences for both the mother and the baby if not promptly diagnosed and treated.
Introduction
Blood clots play a vital role in healing, preventing excessive bleeding when injuries occur. However, during pregnancy, hormonal changes and increased blood volume can heighten the risk of abnormal clot formation. When a clot forms in the veins draining blood from the brain, it can lead to CVST. This condition is particularly concerning during pregnancy and the postpartum period, as the body’s natural clotting tendency is already elevated. CVST during pregnancy is essential for early intervention and effective management. With timely medical care, most women can recover fully and continue their pregnancies safely.
Symptoms of Blood Clot in the Brain
1. Severe Headache: Persistent and intense headaches are often one of the earliest signs of a blood clot in the brain.
2. Vision Problems: Blurred or double vision may occur due to increased pressure in the brain.
3. Seizures: Unexplained seizures, especially in women with no prior history of epilepsy, can indicate CVST.
4. Nausea and Vomiting: These symptoms often accompany other neurological signs.
5. Weakness or Numbness: One-sided weakness or numbness in the face, arm, or leg may signal impaired blood flow in the brain.
6. Confusion or Altered Mental State: Difficulty concentrating or sudden confusion can be indicative of a clot.
Precautions to Minimize Risk
1. Maintain Regular Prenatal Check-ups: Regular visits to a healthcare provider help monitor pregnancy progress and identify potential issues early.
2. Stay Hydrated: Proper hydration supports healthy blood flow and reduces the risk of clot formation.
3. Engage in Light Physical Activity: Moderate exercise, as recommended by a doctor, promotes circulation and overall well-being.
4. Avoid Prolonged Immobility: During long journeys, take breaks to stretch and move around to prevent blood stagnation.
5. Manage Underlying Conditions: Conditions like hypertension, obesity, or gestational diabetes can increase clotting risk. Work closely with your healthcare provider to manage these conditions.
Diagnosis of CVST
1. Medical History and Physical Examination: A detailed history of symptoms and any predisposing factors is taken.
2. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI): MRI, often combined with venography, is the gold standard for detecting blood clots in the brain.
3. Computed Tomography (CT) Scan: A CT scan with contrast may also reveal the presence of a clot.
4. Blood Tests: Tests to assess clotting factors and rule out underlying disorders are typically performed.
Blood clots in the brain during pregnancy, though rare, are a serious condition that requires immediate medical attention. Understanding the symptoms and risk factors can help expectant mothers seek timely care, while adherence to preventive measures can significantly reduce the likelihood of occurrence. Advances in diagnostic techniques and treatments have made it possible for most women with CVST to recover fully and deliver healthy babies. If you suspect any unusual symptoms during pregnancy, consult your healthcare provider promptly. Awareness and proactive care are the keys to ensuring a safe and healthy pregnancy journey.

Agility in Action: Elevating Safety through Facial Recognition
The global physical security industry is projected to reach $216.43 billion by 2030, with an expected compound annual growth rate of 6.8% from 2024 to 2030. With this, it is crucial to integrate physical security with the most appropriate security technology as organizations embrace innovation in order to reduce risks. As physical security breach is more than just a small stain, it can lead to a series of serious operational, financial, and reputational backlash. It becomes essential in this situation to implement technology that can analyze and address physical security breaches.
Facial Recognition Technology (FRT) stands out as a leading solution to these problems, protecting not only the physical boundaries but also the organization’s overall integrity. Through precise identity verification and user validation, FRT considerably lowers the possibility of unauthorized access. Organizations, irrespective of size, can benefit from this technology, which offers improved security and operational effectiveness.
Framework for a Secure Physical Environment
A comprehensive physical security program with interconnected elements serves as the backbone of any security infrastructure. Regulating who can enter or exit a facility is vital. Effective systems include traditional mechanical methods, such as locks and keys, as well as electronic solutions like RFID cards. By using these methods, only authorized persons are able to enter. Nonetheless, a technological solution that works with many Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) is required to successfully counter today’s dangers. In addition to guaranteeing general user convenience, this technology should give top priority to data privacy and safety compliance.
Effective physical security is built on deterring unauthorized entry and identifying people of interest. This can include anything from physical security personnel to surveillance and access control systems. Utilizing technologies like FRT along with video surveillance cameras that enable them to spot suspicious activities. The seamless integration of FRT with existing systems and real-time authentication also underscores the adaptability of this technology, enhancing surveillance and access control measures.
Governments globally are deploying this technology in smart city projects to ensure public safety. The dynamic nature of smart cities demands scalable and adaptable security solutions that can integrate seamlessly with existing infrastructure. Facial recognition not only enhances security but also provides valuable data insights that help city planners and security agencies make informed decisions.
Critical infrastructure facilities, such as airports, data centers, and government institutions, also benefit significantly from the implementation of FRT. For instance, the adoption of RecFaces’ Id-Gate and Id-Guard solutions in various projects-such as at iSpace in Dubai and Telecom Egypt’s data center-demonstrates the growing demand for advanced, reliable security solutions. These real business cases reveal how facial recognition can address compliance requirements, improve operational workflows, and enhance the overall security posture of vital infrastructure.
A Leap Forward with FRT
With advanced algorithms, FRT is flexible to adapt to challenges, making integration with existing video monitoring and access control systems quick. Moreover, the emphasis on contactless identification methods through facial recognition aligns with global trends of enhancing user experience while prioritizing public health and safety.
New technologies such as artificial intelligence, augmented reality and virtual reality, are, in addition, changing the security landscape. The merging of FRT is gaining great momentum with technology able to provide a resounding impact on effective organizational threat management, among others.
FRT implementation in smart city initiatives to guarantee public safety. Because smart cities are dynamic, scalable and flexible, security solutions that work well with current infrastructure are required. In addition to improving security, this offers useful data insights that support the decision-making of security agencies and municipal planners.
Airports, data centers, and government buildings are examples of critical infrastructure facilities that greatly benefit from the use of FRT. The increasing need for sophisticated, dependable security solutions is demonstrated, for example, by the use of RecFaces’ Id-Gate and Id-Guard solutions in a number of projects, including the data center of Telecom Egypt and iSpace in Dubai..
Businesses can find hidden vulnerabilities and take action before attackers take advantage of them by employing FRT to analyze massive amounts of data. By taking a proactive stance, threats are eliminated before they become serious incidents.
