AAEON’s PICO-RAP4 Harnesses 13th Gen Intel Core Processing on the Tiny 2.5” Pico-ITX Form Factor

Orange, CA, June 26, 2024 –AAEON, an industry-leading provider of embedded solutions, has announced the latest addition to its line of PICO-ITX boards: the PICO-RAP4. Equipped to host CPUs from the latest 13th Generation Intel® Core™ processor platform, the PICO-RAP4 is armed with a variety of features catering to advanced computing applications such as service robots and healthcare imaging devices.

With a CPU support list ranging from Intel® Processor U300E all the way to the 6 P-core, 8 E-core, 20-thread Intel® Core™ i7 1370PE, the PICO-RAP4 offers a hybrid CPU architecture for efficient, high-speed processing for the demanding tasks associated with its target uses. The board also provides faster data transfer rates and improved bandwidth in a more flexible configuration through 32GB of SODIMM-based DDR5 (up to 5200 MT/s).

The platform supports Intel® Iris® Xe Graphics, which pairs well with the PICO-RAP4’s HDMI and co-layed eDP and LVDS display interfaces, allowing for two simultaneous displays. Unlike its predecessors, the board exclusively supports Intel® Ethernet interfaces, with one RJ-45 port for Intel® Ethernet Controller I226-V at 2.5GbE and a second supporting Intel® Ethernet Connection I219-LM at Gigabit Ethernet speed. The board’s remaining physical ports are populated by dual USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports.

For internal connectors, the PICO-RAP4 offers a wider variety of functions, including two serial COM connectors for RS-232/422/485, an 8-bit GPIO, SMBus (co-lay I2C), and an optional audio header. TCC, TSN, and timed-GPIO support provide an added bonus by offering reliable communication channels with which users can assimilate sensors, actuators, and control systems. Its powerful processor selection and DDR5 system memory augment the utility of its communication protocol selection, with the capacity to process large datasets for SLAM, object recognition, and path planning when developing service robot solutions.

With regard to expansion, the PICO-RAP4 features an M.2 2280 M-Key for a PCIe 4.0 [x4] interface, along with additional storage through a Mini PCIe/mSATA slot. Additionally, a 61-pin FPC connector offers two 4-lane MIPI CSI interfaces, granting users with an alternative option for high-quality camera installation, on top of standard USB and ethernet camera support.

The board is compatible with both Windows and Ubuntu operating systems. AAEON also provides a choice between a heat spreader or an active fan cooler, depending on customer requirements.

Pennington Biomedical Shares Small Shifts for Nutritional Health

Baton Rouge, LA, June 24, 2024 –Once a person decides it’s time to lose some weight, it may be difficult to determine what’s the best option for them. With all the diet noise out there, what’s the best way to take off those unwanted pounds—and keep them off?

The answer lies not in radical changes, say experts at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center, but in small increments. Easy and attainable adjustments, like staying hydrated, opting for more fruits and vegetables and eating mindfully, have a way of snowballing into long-term lifestyle changes that can help shed pounds and boost energy.

“A common misconception is that good nutrition is all or nothing,” says Pennington Biomedical Registered Dietitian Renee Stelzer, Director of the research center’s Metabolic Kitchen. “There’s an old saying, ‘Don’t let perfect get in the way of good,’ and it really applies here.”

As a world-renowned nutrition research center, Pennington Biomedical has been on the forefront of how diet impacts health for decades. With hundreds of studies demonstrating the value of sound nutrition, the research center rolled out its Small Shifts campaign this year to showcase the cumulative value of daily common-sense changes.

“A great place to start is by just making sure you’re eating a variety of fruits and vegetables every day, as well as lean, quality sources of protein,” says Pennington Biomedical Assistant Professor Dr. Jacob Mey, who studies the impact of nutrition on conditions like asthma.

Substituting fruits and veggies for less healthy foods is easy to do both at home and while dining out. Even if finding fresh produce is difficult, frozen fruits and vegetables offer high nutrition value, as do low-sodium, low-sugar canned options, Stelzer says.

Drinking plenty of water is another easy modification, and one that reaps double rewards. It keeps you hydrated, a must for the body’s many functions. And when you substitute water for sugary drinks, it saves you lots of empty calories.

Dr. Mey and Stelzer say integrating mindfulness is also key. Begin to think about what you’re eating and how it makes you feel. Chew slowly. Observe when you start to feel satisfied rather than continuing to eat thoughtlessly.

“Everything in moderation,” Stelzer says. “If you’re mindful at mealtime, the calories will work themselves out.”

Most of all, don’t let “imperfect” behavior derail your overall commitment to living well.

“Even if you make what you consider to be an unhealthy choice, the whole day isn’t ruined,” Dr. Mey says.

Orange, CA, June 20, 2024 –AAEON, a leading provider of Computer-on-Modules, has today announced the NanoCOM-RAP, a COM Express Type 10 CPU Module powered by 13th Generation Intel® Core™ processors. Available in SKUs ranging from the Intel® Processor U300E to the Intel® Core™ i7-1365UE CPU, the NanoCOM-RAP offers up to 10 cores, 12 threads, and high maximum turbo frequency across both its performance and efficient cores.
