ITI Students Step In to Restore Essential Services in Cyclone-Ravaged Ganjam

Ganjam, Nov 3 (UDN): In a significant community-driven initiative, students from five government Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and a government engineering institution have joined post-cyclone restoration work in Odisha’s Ganjam district, helping repair damaged electrical equipment, water pumps and drinking water supply systems.

ITI Students Step In to Restore Essential Services in Cyclone-Ravaged Ganjam

The technical students are playing an important role in restoring essential services disrupted by Cyclone ‘Arnab’, extending support to the district administration as affected areas gradually move towards normalcy.

One of the notable achievements of the restoration drive is the successful repair of damaged electrical equipment at Asika Sub-Divisional Hospital, helping strengthen efforts to restore essential healthcare services.

Students from Government ITIs at Brahmapur, Sheragada, Purusottampur, Hinjilikatu and Chhatrapur, along with trainees from Uma Charan Patnaik Engineering School in Brahmapur, are actively participating in the operation.

Technical Students Join Ground-Level Restoration

The student teams have been deployed across different locations in Ganjam to undertake repair work on damaged electrical installations, water pumps and water supply infrastructure.

Their technical expertise is being utilised to address immediate infrastructure problems and help restore basic facilities for communities affected by the cyclone.

District Administration Coordinates Efforts

The restoration initiative is being carried out under the direct supervision of the Ganjam district administration. Each team has been assigned a designated supervisor to oversee operations, coordinate activities and ensure that repair work is carried out systematically.

The coordinated effort is aimed at speeding up the restoration of essential infrastructure while ensuring proper guidance and monitoring of the students involved.

Hands-On Experience Beyond Classrooms

Beyond contributing to disaster recovery, the initiative is providing ITI students with an opportunity to apply their classroom learning and technical skills in real-life situations.

Their involvement highlights how technical education institutions can contribute to emergency response and rehabilitation during natural disasters.

At a time when cyclone-affected communities are struggling to regain access to basic services, the participation of these young technicians has emerged as a valuable addition to the ongoing restoration efforts in Ganjam.
