SAKCON 2024: Redefining Patient-Centric Care and the Future of Healthcare
August 16, 2024: In a landmark moment for the healthcare industry, the School of Business Management, NMIMS, Mumbai, in collaboration with CAHO, successfully hosted the very exciting SAKCON 2024, an event that redefined the conversation around patient-centered care, personalized healthcare innovations, and public policy. The conference, powered by the MBA Healthcare Management Program, brought together top minds in healthcare to explore the critical shifts transforming the sector today.
The conference kick-started on a high note with an inspirational inauguration by Dr. Justin Paul, Dean and Provost of SBM, NMIMS, alongside Dr. Neha Sadhotra, Organizing Chairperson of SAKCON 2024 and Chairperson of the MBA Healthcare Management Program at NMIMS. Dr. Sadhotra put forth the topic of the day – patient centric care with special focus on innovation, collaboration, and healthcare excellence. The dynamic Dr. Indu Bhushan, former CEO of Ayushman Bharat, ex-Director General of ADB, and former IAS officer, graced the event as the Chief Guest. Dr Bhushan averred, “I am honoured and privileged to discuss a critical topic like patient centric care. I want to focus on how to bring “patient centric care” into every aspect of healthcare.”
Dr Vijay Agarwal, President, CAHO also further emphatically urged, “Patient centric care is very important in this day and age and we must strive continuously to make sure that patient experience and satisfaction is supreme.” Dr. Justin Paul and Dr. Lallu Joseph (Secretary General of CAHO and Quality Manager at GMC Vellore) also underlined the critical need of technology and leadership in transforming patient care.
Another milestone of SAKCON 2024 was the special unveiling of MBA Healthcare Management Program’s official newsletter, ‘HEALTHCARE NEXUS’. They further announced CARE EXCELLENCE, an interactive case competition on fostering innovation, organized by the Holistika and HIEC Committees.
SAKCON 2024 also had four exciting panel discussions – each offering incisive insights into the future of healthcare.
‘Advancing Patient-Centered Care & Safety Excellence’, which included Dr. Kunal Dhamesha (Pharma and Healthcare Senior Analyst, Macquarie), Dr. Jitendra Haryan (Jaslok Hospital), Dr. Santosh Shetty (Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital),Dr. Parag R. Rindani (Wockhardt Hospital), and Mr. Joy Chakraborty (P. D. Hinduja Hospital), explored cutting-edge tools such as the Jaslok Genie app, AI-driven diagnostics, and the need for transparency to revolutionize patient care.
The next exciting panel discussion was on ‘Tailoring Care: Innovations in Personalized & Advanced Healthcare’. This was moderated by Mr. Bimal Desai (Country Head & Director, SheepMedical) and featured Dr. Sanjay Sood (e-Sanjeevani) and Dr. Vishal Soni (Zydus Hospitals), Dr. Ravi Gaur (DRG Path Labs), and Dr. Suraj Dhirwani (TechnoMedix).
‘Shaping Healthcare: Quality & Accountability through Public Policy’, was helmed by Dr. Kunal Thakkar (COO, BAPS Hospital), and featured Dr Indu Bhushan, Dr. Rajendra Gupta, Dr. Divyesh Mundra (Public Health Policy Advocacy) and Dr. Om Prakash Kansal (American Cancer Society) – also called for an overhaul in healthcare policy, focusing on digital health missions and faith-based public policy models.
The exciting and interactive panel discussion on ‘Enhancing Patient Safety: The Role of the Healthcare Workforce’ was moderated by Dr. Ashwini Jogade (Nanavati Max Super Speciality Hospital), and included Dr. Shilpa Tatake (Jupiter Hospital), Dr. Prashant Mishra (BMJ India) ), Dr. Jayant Banthia (SVKM & Former Chief Secretary, Government of Maharashtra), Dr. Mukesh Gupta (AMC Past President, Obstetrician & Gynaecologist), and Dr. Suganthi Iyer (P.D. Hinduja National Hospital) Dr. S. Prakash (Star Health) and Dr. Swati Rane (Sevashakti Healthcare).
The event concluded with an inspiring address by Dr. Rajendra Gupta, Founder of Parliament Health and Former Advisor to the Union Health Minister, Government of India who underlined the importance of collaboration in India’s healthcare future. This was followed by a prize distribution ceremony, honouring the top contributions from paper and poster presentations. It concluded with Dr. Subramania Rajasulochna, Organizing Co-Chairperson of SAKCON 2024, delivered a heartfelt vote of thanks.
