Google Cloud and Glance Join Forces to Redefine Consumer Experiences with Generative AI on Lock Screens and Ambient TVs
Bangalore, Singapore, Sunnyvale, Calif., 27 February 2025 ‒ Consumer internet company, Glance, and Google Cloud today announced a strategic partnership to bring the power of generative AI (gen AI) to millions of Glance-enabled smartphones worldwide. Through this collaboration, Glance will leverage Google’s AI models to develop consumer-facing AI applications designed to enhance and enrich user experiences on smartphone lock screens and ambient TV screens.
Glance, a pioneer in delivering AI-powered smart lock screen experiences, currently powers more than 450 million Android-based smartphones worldwide. The company has an active user base of more than 300 million across India, Indonesia, Japan, the United States, and other countries. It is now building the next generation of Glance, which aims to turn every user’s lock screen into the center of their digital experiences, integrating their news, sports, games, entertainment, fashion, and shopping with gen AI to create a ‘personal internet’ for the user.
Glance will leverage Google Cloud’s Gemini intelligence capabilities and Imagen’s state of the art image generation capabilities via Vertex AI to power Glance’s next-gen experiences. One of the first experiences is an immersive, gen AI-enabled commerce feature for the lock screen. This feature allows users to upload a single image (selfie or upload from gallery), which is then analyzed to infer their interests and preferences. Users can then use gen AI to generate personalized images that place them in relevant contexts, transforming their lock screen wallpapers. As users visualize themselves with various products, they can make real-time purchase decisions seamlessly from their lock screens.
“Our mission at Glance is to inspire users to become the best version of themselves through discovery-led experiences on surfaces powered by AI. We want to be the world’s largest consumer tech platform, reaching a billion screens by 2028, and our partnership with Google Cloud is key,” said Naveen Tewari, Founder & CEO of InMobi & Glance. “Our combined knowledge, AI capabilities, and expertise uniquely position Glance to deliver the next level of AI-driven experiences for smartphone users, supported by viable business models such as commerce and advertising.”
The partnership comes as Glance prepares to launch ‘Glance AI,’ a gen AI-powered platform designed to deliver immersive discovery experiences on both smartphone lock screens and TV ambient screens. To be launched in the U.S. market first, Glance AI aims to supercharge ordinary smartphones into AI phones through experiences that redefine content and commerce.
Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud added, “Generative AI technologies have the power to transform experiences for people around the world, and mobile phones are a key touchpoint. Glance can now harness Google Cloud’s cutting-edge gen AI technologies to develop groundbreaking applications across commerce, content, and more that will unlock new possibilities for customers.”

Your Data, Their Gold: The Silent Battle for Digital Freedom

By-Mr. Neelesh Kripalani, Chief Technology Officer at Clover Infotech
In today’s digital age, personal data is more valuable than ever—not just to individuals but also to corporations, governments, and cybercriminals. Every click, scroll, and search contributes to a vast data economy, where information is the new gold. Yet, as the world becomes more interconnected, a silent battle is being waged: the fight to maintain digital freedom while protecting privacy.
The Rise of Data Privacy Concerns
Cybercrimes in India have surged, with over 1.2 million cases reported in the first nine months of 2024, averaging 7,000 per day. Experts predict a further rise in 2025, driven by AI-powered malware and IoT-based attacks. The Data Security Council warns of increasing threats to critical infrastructure and personal data, along with the growing sophistication of social engineering tactics.
The recent Star Health Insurance data leak exemplifies these risks, where hackers exploited Telegram chatbots to leak sensitive customer information, including medical records and personal identification details. While legal action was taken to mitigate the damage, such incidents highlight the vulnerabilities in data security and the urgent need for stronger regulatory measures and corporate accountability.
Data privacy has now become a pressing issue. How much should companies be allowed to know about us? Who owns the data that we create? Can we, as individuals, maintain control over our personal information, or are we at the mercy of data-driven corporations? On the other end of the spectrum lies digital freedom—the ability to move, share, and interact in the digital world without unnecessary restrictions. Hence, the dilemma arises: Is true freedom worth sacrificing privacy?
The Silent Battle: Data Privacy vs. Digital Freedom
Here lies the crux of the dilemma: How do we strike the right balance between protecting individual privacy and enabling the freedom that defines the digital age?
• Surveillance vs. Autonomy: While companies and governments argue that surveillance is necessary to improve services, enhance security, and ensure a safe digital experience, excessive surveillance can erode personal autonomy and lead to the loss of privacy.
• Freedom of Expression vs. Data Exploitation: Social media platforms encourage open expression, idea-sharing, and community building. However, every post and interaction generate valuable data that can be monetized.
• Convenience vs. Control: We all love the convenience of personalized recommendations and tailored content. But in exchange, we give up control over the data used to generate those experiences. The more personalized the service, the more data is being tracked—often without full transparency.
• Security vs. Privacy: The more secure a system, the more data it may require for authentication, tracking, and fraud prevention.
Is federated architecture the solution?
As we move forward, the solution lies in finding a balance—one where data privacy is respected while still allowing individuals the freedom to explore, create, and communicate without fear of surveillance. One approach that addresses both privacy and security concerns is a federated architecture—a decentralized model that ensures data is not stored in a single repository but distributed across multiple independent entities.
• Minimizing Data Breach Risks: Instead of a centralized database vulnerable to mass breaches, federated systems store data in separate nodes (e.g., banks, healthcare providers, and digital identity systems). A breach in one entity does not compromise the entire ecosystem.
• Privacy by Design: Users share only the minimum required data through secure APIs and encryption techniques like zero-knowledge proofs (ZKPs), ensuring sensitive information remains private.
• User Control Over Data: Federated identity management allows individuals to authenticate across multiple services without repeatedly sharing passwords, reducing exposure to data misuse.
Real-World Example – India Stack & UPI: The Unified Payments Interface (UPI) operates on a federated model, where multiple banks process transactions without a single entity controlling all user data, thereby reducing privacy risks while operating at a massive scale. To put this into perspective, in January 2025, UPI processed approximately 16.996 billion transactions, amounting to ₹23.48 lakh crore.
By adopting federated models and robust encryption techniques, digital ecosystems can uphold privacy without sacrificing digital freedom. This ensures that individuals remain in control of their data while mitigating large-scale cyber threats.

Navigate Fertility Challenges After the Age of 35

By- Dr. Avir Sarkar, Assistant Professor, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, NIIMS College & Hospital
The complicated way of battling infertility beyond 35 may appear like a complex situation, but knowing the options can make the situation less hectic. With age, women lose both the quantity and quality of their eggs, which can have an impact on fertility. At the same time, there are multiple methods and treatments to help optimize chances for conception. An initial consultation with a fertility specialist may evaluate reproductive health through hormone level checks, ultrasounds, and a partner’s semen analysis. Lifestyle changes such as a balanced diet rich in antioxidants, regular exercise, and stress management such as yoga or meditation may also help in enhancing fertility.
Treatment options to help overcome infertility exist for women above 35 years of age. Irregular cycles in her ovulation-inducing medications such as Clomid or Letrozole present drugs inducing FSH and LH. IUI: placing sperm inside a woman’s uterus to increase the likelihood of fertilization. ART in vitro fertilization is the highest technique; only a lucky few can succeed with it. Egg freezing is when a woman’s eggs are frozen for future use when her intention might be to delay pregnancy. Donor eggs or embryos would conceivably come into play with diminished ovarian reserve. And explored would also be gestational surrogacy, once one cannot risk carrying a pregnancy of her own.
Early treatment and skilled counseling greatly increase the chances of success. If there are fertility problems, seeing medical help and considering possible treatments should be a priority for improving the chances of a healthy pregnancy.

EV Startup Vidyut Expands BaaS Offerings with dollar2.5M Funding from Flourish Ventures
India, 27 February 2025: Vidyut, a full-stack electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem platform, has raised $2.5 million in funding from global fintech investor Flourish Ventures. The funding will fuel expansion of Vidyut’s Battery-as-a-Service offerings in both passenger and commercial EV segments. This investment reinforces Vidyut’s mission to accelerate India’s clean energy transition by making EV ownership accessible and affordable for SMBs.

“With proven unit economics, strong 15% month-on-month growth, and long-term OEM partnerships, this investment will help us scale our innovative financing and lifecycle solutions across new vehicle segments,” said Xitij Kothi, Co-Founder, Vidyut. “Vidyut has solved one of EV financing’s biggest challenges – battery degradation risk. By analyzing real-time performance data across state of health, discharge patterns, and usage metrics, we accurately predict battery life and value. This data-driven approach enables us to offer usage-based financing that aligns with actual asset performance, making EVs both affordable and financially viable for businesses in a way traditional finance cannot replicate. We’re excited to partner with Flourish Ventures to make EVs accessible and profitable for businesses nationwide.”
Founded in 2021 by ex-Swiggy and Bounce executives Xitij Kothi and Gaurav Srivastava, Vidyut revolutionized commercial EV financing. By unbundling batteries from EVs and offering them on a pay-per-km subscription basis, Vidyut reduced upfront 3W EV costs by 35-40%, making them significantly cheaper than ICE vehicles from day one.
“We at Flourish Ventures believe that finance will have a key role in enabling actions towards climate change. As the economy transitions to sustainable solutions like electric vehicles, access to credit will play a key role to adoption in India,” said Harsh Gupta, Principal, Flourish Ventures. “With its unique Battery-as-a-Service offering, Vidyut provides innovative financial solutions that help users reduce their upfront costs while addressing common concerns around battery life and replacement costs. We are continually impressed by the team and the growth they have demonstrated, and we look forward to their continued impact in accelerating the transition to climate-friendly solutions.”
In 2023, Vidyut expanded its offering to include EV resale and lifecycle management solutions, a move that has seen rapid customer adoption and market traction. In Sep 2024, the company entered the passenger EV market through a partnership with JSW MG Motor India, marking India’s first BaaS model for four-wheelers that cuts upfront vehicle costs by 30%.
With key industry partners like TATA Motors, JSW MG Motor India, Mahindra Last Mile Mobility, Piaggio, Euler Motors, and a strong distribution network across 30 cities, Vidyut has empowered micro-entrepreneurs and fleet operators to make the sustainable choice, while increasing their earnings by 10-15% through EV adoption.
With its data-centric approach, Vidyut has in a short span of time also launched an EV resale platform for the three-wheeler commercial vehicle segment, which manages the entire process—from inspection and valuation to sale and RTO documentation. This new platform has streamlined the resale process for commercial EV owners and has helped customers realise upto 10-15% better than ICE counterparts in secondary markets.
