DRI installs solar street lights to illuminate the outskirts of Dadhikar village in Alwar
New Delhi, 2nd August 2024: Desiccant Rotors International Pvt. Ltd., a flagship company under the Pahwa Group, has installed Solar Street Lights in the outskirts of Dadhikar village, Alwar as part of its CSR activity. The project aims to enhance the electrical infrastructure of the village by improving the lighting condition of the region.

As part of the initiative, 25 solar street lights will be installed in the initial phase to illuminate the stretch of street remaining dark during the night. Serving the purpose of improving, safeguarding, facilitating, and encouraging vehicular and pedestrian traffic during the night, the installation is estimated to benefit more than 7,500 people residing in the village.
The village is situated in the neighbourhood of Sariska Tiger Reserve and animals from the buffer zone of reserve tend to enter the village after sunset. This makes it difficult to carry on the activities after dusk in the buffer zone of the village. Recognizing the challenge faced by the locals, DRI worked closely with Sapna NGO to install solar-powered street lights for enhancing the safety of the people. In the process, it will also protect the villagers and domestic animals from wild animal attacks such as snakes and jackals, which are very common in the area after sunset.
Focussing on sustainable rural development, the initiative will have a transformative impact on the lives of residents. It will facilitate continuity of activities and enable ease of commutability even during night due to better illumination. Additionally, it will also ease movements during the evening hours on rainy days. The initiative will be instrumental in creating a sense of security among the residents at evening and night. They will be able to continue with their tasks without any hindrance or fear of accident or animal attack.
The inauguration was done by Mr. Deepak Pahwa, Director, Desiccant Rotors, and Mrs. Vinita Pahwa, Director Desiccant Rotors as the Chief Guest (s) of the program. The event was also attended by Mrs Anandita Pahwa, Head-CSR Initiative, Pahwa Group, Mr Sudhir Pratap Singh, General Secretary, Sapna NGO, Prof Ranveer Singh, Treasurer Sapna NGO, Mr. Bhumi Sarpanch of the village and villagers of the Dadhikar village, Alwar.
Speaking on the occasion, Vinita Pahwa, the Director of Desiccant Rotors said, “The solar street light project is a testament to our commitment to upgrading the lives of underprivileged people with the help of CSR activities. The Solar Street Lights will be the source of quality illumination in the villages during power cuts in the evening hours. Thus, in cases of power cuts, many times the inhabitants depend on the light received from the Solar Street Lights. The light from the Solar Street Lights will also illuminate the premises of the adjacent households. Thus, during power cuts, the families will be able to gather outside their houses sometimes to sit under the light.”

Childhood Brain Disease treated successfully in adulthood at Apex Group of Hospitals
Mumbai- 32 years old male patient presented with all four limb tingling numbness and pain at the back of head from the last 3 months. He approached Dr. Samir Parekh Neurosurgeon from Apex Hospitals Kandivali which is part of Apex Group of Hospitals, Mumbai where he conducted all necessary medical tests immediately. In an MRI test we found patients suffering Arnold Chiari Malformation type 1, where a cerebellum small brain herniated into the spine and causes compression and formation of syrinx in spine. A Chiari malformation is a problem in which a part of the brain (the cerebellum) at the back of the skull bulges through a normal opening in the skull where it joins the spinal canal. This puts pressure on parts of the brain and spinal cord, and can cause mild to severe symptoms.

Dr. Samir Parekh Neurosurgeon from Apex Hospitals, Kandivali says,” We performed foramen magnum decompression with C1C2 laminectomy and duraplasty. This Surgery was successful and the patient was discharged on day 3 of surgery. Gradually his tingling numbers will go away. Cerebellum bulges through the foramen magnum, the opening at the base of the skull. This can happen when the skull base bones are underdeveloped, leaving too little space in the posterior fossa to contain the cerebellum. The cerebellum’s cerebellar tonsils then herniate through the foramen magnum, putting pressure on the brainstem and spinal cord, and blocking the flow of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). Chiari malformation type 1 is the most common type of Chiari malformation, and is usually present at birth. However, symptoms often don’t appear until late childhood or adulthood, and in rare cases, it may develop later in life. Symptoms can include Headaches, especially after coughing, sneezing, or straining, Neck pain, Unsteady walk and balance problems, Poor hand coordination, Numbness and tingling in the hands and feet, Dizziness, Trouble in swallowing & Speech changes.”
Dr. Samir Parekh Neurosurgeon further added Chiari Malformation Type 1 can be treated with physiotherapy and posterior fossa decompression surgery. Physiotherapy can help with symptoms like vestibular problems, cervical pain, and headaches. Surgery involves removing part of the skull and spinal column, and sometimes widening the dura, to create more space for CSF to circulate.

A Comprehensive Approach to Fire Safety and Evacuation by the Mumbai Fire Brigade
Mumbai, 2nd September 2024: In light of the annual statistics, the Mumbai Fire Brigade is implementing strategic decisions that incorporate innovative policies and technologies. The introduction of the Fire Evacuation Lift for high-rise buildings, IoT systems, Quick Response Vehicles (QRV), and fire training simulators are among the few initiatives.
A budget of 50 crores has been proposed for the development of fire training simulators, which are real-time training and not virtual training for all firefighters. Following successful implementations in Vishakhapatnam and Lonavala’s defense area, the Mumbai Fire Brigade aims to enhance its rescue operations. The first training simulator will be set up in Kandivali.
Ravindra Ambulgekar, Chief Fire Officer of Mumbai, emphasized the importance of public awareness regarding fire safety, stating that individual safety is largely dependent on personal actions. By following established protocols and effectively using fire extinguishers, citizens can greatly mitigate the risk of casualties and property damage.
As per the data received from the Mumbai Fire Brigade, a total of 10,566 emergency calls were made, of which 3,197 were related to fire emergencies, leading to 8 deaths and 112 injuries. From January 1st to July 31st, 2024, the city experienced 3,197 fire incidents, a slight increase from the 3,125 incidents reported during the same period last year, marking an uptick of 72 incidents.
During the Monsoon Assembly Session, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde revealed that Mumbai experienced approximately 13,000 fire incidents over the last three years, resulting in 65 fatalities. He underscored the urgent need for the installation of fire evacuation lifts in buildings exceeding 70 meters in height
Speaking on the same subject in a written statement, he noted, “The Mumbai Fire Department, in collaboration with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), is committed to safeguarding the well-being of its citizens, especially in the light of the concerning fire incidents, evacuation becomes a challenge. All relevant departments, builders, developers, and occupants must prioritize the maintenance of fire safety equipment, conduct regular fire audits, and install fire evacuation lifts in structures exceeding 70 meters in height.”
He further said the goal is to enhance the quality of life for the residents of Maharashtra by providing comprehensive information regarding fire safety and fire evacuation lift features in various facilities, including high-rise buildings, multi-story complexes, hospitals, hotels, shopping malls, schools, and colleges. In the event of a fire, occupants must be informed about evacuation routes, procedures, and how to exit safely. I am sure this task of public awareness will be given topmost priority.
Deepak Monga, an expert in fire safety and evacuation, remarked that the Fire Department, Municipal Corporations, Energy Department, and our distinguished Chief Minister have consistently highlighted the significance of the Fire Evacuation Lift. This advanced system facilitates prompt and secure evacuations. The more individuals comply with fire safety and evacuation guidelines, the greater the assistance it offers to the government and fire department in fostering a safer infrastructure.
Dr. Vikram Mehta, the Manufacturer of the SPARTAN Fire Evacuation Lift, noted that responsible builders in Mumbai have begun to implement the fire evacuation lift, prioritizing the safety of residents in high-rise buildings. We anticipate that other major cities in Maharashtra will adopt this measure to ensure the safety of their occupants.
