A look into Wood Industry manufacturing techniques
The Indian wood industry is constantly enhancing with the technological advancements coming in. Through this, the industry has witnessed increased productivity, efficiency, and product quality across manufacturing processes. The integration of cutting-edge technologies and sustainable practices are transforming raw wood materials into high-performance, versatile products from Medium-Density Fiberboard (MDF), Prelaminated MDF to Plywood, Blockboards, Flush doors and wooden flooring.
Here, we delve into understanding these processes and gain insights into how innovation drives the industry’s growth:
1. Medium-Density Fiberboard (MDF) Manufacturing – Production starts with sustainable Eucalyptus hardwood fibres, undergoing processing and blending with a premium resin binder, then moulded in continuous press into panels under elevated temperature and pressure. After this, the panels undergo meticulous European technology, Chip wash, CTS, sanding, cutting, and comprehensive testing for density, strength, and consistency, resulting in enhanced quality and performance standards. We have a wide range of MDF boards, including HDWR, E1/E0.5/CARB P2 MDF, Exterior grade, and Interior grade.
2. Prelaminated MDF Manufacturing – In prelaminated MDF production, a paper laminate is affixed onto the surface of plain MDF panels, imitating the visual characteristics of wood grain or stone. It helps augment the product’s aesthetic allure and results in a smooth, flawless finish. We produce it with suede and matte textures, in an exquisite and classic design. All grades of MDF are covered under the range.
3. Wooden Flooring Manufacturing – There are multiple designs that come with HDF wooden floorings. These could include an aesthetic layer made out of paper, a balancing paper, and more. Such options and products help keep in mind both durability and aesthetic appeal. The floorings have a moisture-resistant wax and help facilitate effortless installation. Premium flooring is available in the Persona collection (AC4/AC5) and Prima collection (AC3/AC4).
4. Plywood Manufacturing – Plywood can be manufactured by stacking thin wood veneers at right angles to each other, bonding them together under controlled heat and pressure. One can buy plywood with consistent thickness, flatness, and structural soundness, which makes it suitable for a wide range of applications.
We are leaders in the production of boiling waterproof, termite and borer-proof plywood using Quadra Pro and VPT technology, which is used to create Structural, marine, and MR grades of plywood.
5. Blockboard Manufacturing: Blockboard is made by sandwiching a core of wooden strips between layers of veneer. The wooden strips are placed edge to edge and sandwiched between the double veneer layers using adhesive. This creates a strong and stable panel with a smooth surface. The manufacturing process involves selecting high-quality wood strips, applying adhesive, compressing the layers, and finishing the panel to desired specifications. Our selection of Blockboard BWP & MR grade is composed of pine filler, frame, and controlled kiln seasoned wood that has been treated with environmentally friendly preservatives for increased strength and longevity. The Blockboard is uniform in dimension, durable and resistance to warping.
6. Flush doors Manufacturing: Flush doors are manufactured by sandwiching a treated and kiln seasoned solid imported core between veneers. The core is typically made of blocks of wood for strength and durability. The veneers are glued to both sides of the core using high-pressure & temperature techniques. After assembly, the door is sanded, trimmed, and finished to achieve a smooth surface. Flush doors are versatile and commonly used in exterior and interior applications due to their clean, modern look and affordability. Our Flush doors are made from imported pine wood that has been kiln-seasoned and protected with a preservative to make them impervious to termites and borer infestation.

City of Varanasi from India along with Two Global Cities Chosen to Host Toyota Mobility Foundation’s $9m Sustainable Cities Challenge

Bengaluru, 30 May 2024: The Toyota Mobility Foundation (TMF) today announced that Varanasi along with two global cities, Detroit and Venice, have been selected to host innovation challenges as part of the Toyota Mobility Foundation’s Sustainable Cities Challenge. The goal of the $9 million global initiative is to help cities accelerate toward sustainable mobility, fostering healthier and safer urban environments while enhancing people’s ability to commute, work, study, and access services.
Over 150 cities from 46 countries entered the Sustainable Cities Challenge after the call to cities was first launched in June 2023. In November 2023 the shortlist of 10 cities were announced from which the top 3 were chosen as the finalists. Now, the three selected cities will launch their own City Challenges inviting global innovators to work with them with Varanasi launching its City Challenge on June 27, 2024. Innovators could be from anywhere around the world – residing both locally or anywhere else, but the solutions must be applicable and tailored to meet the mobility needs of the winning cities. In late 2024, solutions that best meet the needs of the cities will be selected and have access to a share of USD 3 million per city in innovation grants to demonstrate and pilot test. In 2026, winners of the challenge will be selected for further scaling and implementation.
As one of the most prominent heritage cities in India, Varanasi experiences huge influx of tourism, which, while vital to strengthening the city’s tapestry of faith and culture, brings with it concerns of safety and crowding. The Varanasi City Challenge creates an opportunity to address these issues by generating innovative, data-driven solutions incorporating elements of technology and design. Overall, the aim is to make the city, and particularly the crowded areas of Varanasi’s old city (Kashi), safer and more accessible to pilgrims, local residents and the vulnerable populace.

- Technical Grade Ammonium Nitrate Business demand showed healthy growth trends with Coal production growing at 11% YoY and 23% QoQ and Cement production growing at 10% YoY and 16% QoQ.
- Technical Grade Ammonium Nitrate sales volume in Q4 grew by 26% YoY and 39% QoQ due to improved demand and coupled with low imports, particularly from Russia as it was short-term aberration.

- Steel grade Nitric acid has witnessed positive customer response since its commercial launch.
- Business Outlook:Nitric acid prices are expected to remain stable and improve over few quarters. Propylene based IPA would continue to perform better from demand and price perspective. Organ Donation Saves 6 Lives in Pune with two Liver Transplants in a month at Sahyadri Hospital, Hadapsar
Pune, May 29, 2024: In a significant medical achievement, Sahyadri Super Speciality Hospital, Hadapsar, successfully performed a liver transplant on Mr. Sanjay Chavan (name changed) who is from Washim, who had been suffering from decompensated liver cirrhosis for the past three years. This life-saving surgery underscores the importance of timely medical intervention and the profound impact of organ donation.
Mr. Chavan had been battling severe liver issues, including a rise in bilirubin levels and ascites. His condition required an immediate liver transplant. Fortunately, a 47-year-old man who had suffered a brain hemorrhage generously donated his liver. The donor was brought to Sahyadri Hospital in an emergency, where the organ donation process was facilitated.
ZTCC’s organ allocation process played a crucial role in this life-saving procedure. According to ZTCC guidelines, priority is given to recipients registered at the same hospital as the donor. Mr. Sanjay, being the registered recipient at Sahyadri Hospital, was prioritized for the transplant.
The successful transplant was performed by a highly skilled team of doctors, including Dr. Bipin Vibhute, Dr. Apurv Deshpande, Dr. Anirudha Bhosale, Dr. Dinesh Zirpe, Dr. Radhika, Dr. Manish Pathak, Dr. Manoj Raut, Dr. Sheetal Mahajani, Dr. Kiran Shinde along with Transplant coordinator Rahul Tambe and Priyanka Bhujbal. The critical care support was provided by Dr. Kapil Borawake and Dr. Satish from the ICU team. The entire process, from donor identification to transplant, was executed with precision, highlighting the hospital’s commitment to excellence in healthcare.
Just a month prior to this successful procedure, Sahyadri Hospital in Hadapsar had marked another milestone with its first-ever liver transplant at this facility. The recipient, a 49-year-old male from Parbhani, had been diagnosed with decompensated chronic liver disease. The availability of a suitable donor at the hospital enabled the medical team to carry out this groundbreaking surgery, setting a precedent for future life-saving interventions at Hadapsar.
“Sanjay’s case is a testament to the importance of timely intervention, effective counselling, and the coordinated efforts of our medical team. Just last month, our team achieved another milestone by successfully completing the first liver transplant at our Hadapsar facility. We are grateful to the donor’s families for their noble decisions, which have given these patients new leases on life. This series of successful procedures demonstrates our team’s dedication and the advanced medical capabilities at Sahyadri Hospital. Bata India announces Q4 results

Mumbai, May 30, 2024: Footwear major Bata India Limited today announced results for the quarter ended 31st March 2024. Revenue from operations for the quarter stood at Rs. 7976.74 million vs. Rs. 7785.85 million for Q4FY23. The Operating Profit stood at Rs. 582.65 million. The results for the quarter are a factor of resilience despite sluggish demand conditions to drive growth in a sustainable manner with strong margin performance.
Continued expansion with a network of 1329 COCO and Franchise stores. On digital sales front, e-commerce performance was encouraging. Bata achieved significant growth in e-commerce sales for previous year.
The portfolio casualisation strategy continued to work well, with Sneaker category led by Power. Sneaker Studios expanded to 698 Stores. Floatz achieved highest ever quarterly turnover, enhanced by 11 Floatz Kiosk. Bata also launched its 1st Power EBO launched in Noida. Another 5 to be opened shortly.
To enhance customer experience, Bata continued to renovate stores. 67 stores were renovated during the quarter with significant thrust towards portfolio newness with style & technology propositions.
Major campaigns were launched building style & fashion forward Imagery through Marketing Campaigns – 10/10 Campaign and Engaging Youth with Always-On Influencers.
Bata continued to leverage its fixed cost across the value chain. ERP has gone live as per plan.
Revenue from operations for the year stood at Rs. 34,784.13 million vs. Rs. 34,515.68 million for FY23. The Operating Profit stood at Rs. 3,280.59 million for the year vs. Rs. 3,882.79 million for FY23. With a positive outlook and to accelerate growth, significant investments behind Brand and technology are continued.
Speaking on the Q4FY24 performance, Gunjan Shah, MD and CEO – Bata India Limited, stated:
“Bata India navigated well through the unforeseen sluggishness in the market driving towards sustainable growth led by brands backed by significant investments in marketing and technology. Our strategies helped us defending margins.

Recyclekaro becomes one of the 4 Lithium-ion Battery Recyclers Registered on India’s EPR Portal

Mumbai, 30th May 2024: Recyclekaro, a leading e-waste and lithium-ion battery recycling company, is proud to announce its registration on the government’s Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) portal for e-waste recycling. As a lithium-ion battery recycling industry leader, Recyclekaro joins Lohum Cleantech, Attero, and LICO Materials as one of the four registered lithium-ion battery recyclers, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable e-waste management. Based on its existing recycling capacity, Recyclekaro will help lithium-ion battery and electronics product manufacturers, producers, and importers in India meet their EPR targets. These targets include 4,200 MT for lithium-ion battery recycling and 15,000 MT for e-waste recycling, ensuring comprehensive support for sustainability goals.
India is the third-largest e-waste producer globally, generating 1.71 million metric tons annually, with only approximately 40% of e-waste recycled in the last financial year. To address this challenge, the EPR portal, an initiative by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), provides a transparent and accountable framework for electronic waste management in India. It centralizes the tracking of e-waste from production to disposal, connecting manufacturers with registered recyclers like Recyclekaro and streamlining collection and recycling processes. The system offers financial incentives through EPR credits, making recycling economically viable and supporting companies in meeting sustainability targets. Additionally, the platform ensures regulatory compliance, improves data collection and reporting, and encourages innovation in recycling technologies, fostering a more sustainable approach to e-waste management in India.
The Battery Waste Management (BWM) Rules, 2022, notified by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, apply to all types of batteries. These rules mandate that producers (manufacturers, importers) meet collection and recycling targets to fulfil Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) obligations. Producers, recyclers, and refurbishers must register through the online portal developed by the CPCB, which enhances accountability, traceability, and transparency in meeting EPR obligations.
