‘I was most impressed by the professionalism of the students in their presentations and in their interactions with the Jury and industry experts at the Infosys Campus. The finalists demonstrated an ability to design net-zero buildings that is head and shoulders above the average building industry professional. There was positive energy throughout the event. Clearly the drive to solve the climate crisis is bringing out the best in these students, in terms of their hard work, creativity, and their temperament.’
– Prasad Vaidya, Director Solar Decathlon India.
‘Net-zero buildings to reduce the carbon intensity of India’s economy need a creative integration of STEM and design, and innovative technologies for the construction industry. At the Department of Science & Technology, we provided funding for research in this area. I saw at the Solar Decathlon India Finals event, that now industry is also stepping up. As a Jury member for Climate Smart Innovation Award, I was able to witness 25 industry innovations that address climate change. This Finals event for Solar Decathlon India also shows what young students are able to do when they apply building science to design and innovation. The product development category had 6 teams who have developed prototype solutions to reduce heat stress and improve cooling for all Indians. As the Executive Director of the Indo-U.S. Science and Technology Forum I will look for opportunities to increase the collaboration between India and the US on such innovation.’
– Dr Nisha Mendiratta, Director, IUSSTF.
‘India’s Climate mitigation targets will only be achieved through deep and rapid reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from multiple sources. One of them is by constructing new high-performance, net-zero buildings and retrofitting existing ones. IIHS is helping accelerate the Urban and Infrastructure transition by retrofitting and constructing all our buildings to meet High Performance Buildings standards that use 1/4th to 1/5th the energy of conventional buildings and reduce embodied carbon emissions by 40%. This has saved us over INR 37 Lakhs a year in electricity costs. At the 2024 Finals, we have seen how Solar Decathlon India has trained over 6,000 of the next generation of building professionals who can plan, design, construct, and monitor High Performance Buildings. They are going to be the backbone of the low-carbon revolution in India’s building construction and operations that industry, investors, governments and homeowners will need, to make the net-zero transition a reality.’
– Aromar Revi, Director, IIHS.
‘With a visionary focus on net zero buildings, SDI is shaping the future of architecture and fostering an ecosystem for its realization. Through immersive learning and a commitment to comprehensive understanding of net-zero, we are cultivating a workforce prepared to lead toward a sustainable built environment. We also recognize the urgency of addressing existing structures lacking resilience to heat and climate changes. This year’s introduction of the residential cooling retrofit category is a game-changer, offering solutions for enhanced cooling performance with minimal need for disruption. This holistic and inclusive approach solidifies SDI’s status as the world’s largest net zero design challenge.’
– Satish Kumar, Founder and President, AEEE.

Indian Telecom Stems Employee Churn as Attrition Rates Recede: TeamLease Data

BENGALURU, May 18, 2024: The Indian telecom industry witnessed a slowdown in overall workforce growth, even as demand for entry-level customer-facing (Sales, Support and Service) and technology roles remained positive, according to the latest data from TeamLease Services (NSE: TEAMLEASE).
While the industry’s associate workforce expanded by an impressive 51.05% in FY21-22, this growth moderated to 31.41% in FY23-24. However, telecom companies continued to actively hire field sales executives, customer relationship executives, retail executives, installation engineers, fibre repair executives, and cell site repair staff during this period.
“Our data reveals a dichotomy in the telecom sector’s workforce trends,” said Kartik Narayan, CEO-Staffing of TeamLease Services. “While the overall employee growth rate tapered, we witnessed a demand for young talent in customer-facing and technology roles that support the industry’s field operations and network infrastructure.”
The findings highlight the telecom workforce’s young demographics, with 56.8% in the age group of 18-29 years. This youthful employee base aligns with the industry’s frontline service delivery and tech deployment requirements.
Notably, the sector’s attrition rate declined from a peak of 58.4% in FY22-23 to 43.4% in FY23-24, this can be partially attributed to the slowed growth in the workforce size. Sustained average salaries between ₹24,600 – ₹25,475 likely supported employee retention efforts.
“While the slowdown in overall growth is notable, we are encouraged by improving attrition rates and sustained entry-level hiring traction,” said Subburathinam P, Chief Strategy Officer at TeamLease Services. “Our insights underscore telecom‘s strong appeal among young job seekers and the industry’s efforts to attract this digital-savvy talent through competitive compensation.”
TeamLease‘s data provides a comprehensive view into the evolving workforce dynamics of India’s telecom sector as it navigates a transitional phase marked by moderate growth but rising demand for specialized customer-facing roles and technology professionals.

MERIL’s Next-Gen Myval THV Series Marks India’s Triumph in Global Heart Valve Sector

Hyderabad, 18 May 2024: Exciting news from Meril Life Sciences! The LANDMARK trial’s 30 days primary outcomes were presented on 15th May at EuroPCR 2024, Paris, France. LANDMARK was recognized by EuroPCR as one of the top three late breaking trials poised to transform revolutionise current practices in the field of Interventional Cardiology.
The LANDMARK study showed that the performance of Myval THV series in terms of safety and effectiveness was non-inferior to the contemporary THV series (24.7% vs. 27.0%, occurrence of primary composite endpoint which is composite of deaths, stroke, major bleeding, acute kidney injury, major vascular complications, moderate or severe valve regurgitation, and the need for new permanent pacemaker implantation as per the third Valve Academic Research Consortium consensus) with no difference in the itemized components of the primary composite endpoints. The other secondary endpoints including technical success at exit from procedure room, device success at 30 days and early safety at 30 days were comparable in both the groups.
Professor Serruys, Chairman & study director of the LANDMARK trial, said “Myval THV series are novel next-gen THV devices; non-inferior to the Sapien and Evolut THV series. Myval THV series have a unique size matrix incorporating conventional, intermediate and extra-large diameters with increasing diameter steps of 1.5mm that match and fit precisely the multi slice CT scan-defined aortic annulus area of each individual patient, as a result, provides a superior effective orifice area on echocardiography, which may impact on durability and long-term clinical outcomes. Additionally, the Myval Octacor, with its 2 rows of octagonal cells and a minimal foreshortening of 19% during expansion, has unique features not paired by any other contemporary design.”
Myval THV series has a versatile range of sizes offering not only traditional sizes (20 mm, 23 mm, 26 mm, 29 mm) but also intermediate (21.5 mm, 24.5 mm, 27.5 mm) and extra-large sizes (30.5 mm and 32 mm). This tailored sizing matrix allows cardiologists to select the appropriate valve size, thus avoiding excessive over- or under-sizing. In the LANDMARK trial, 48.1% of the patients were implanted with the intermediate size of Myval THV series.
As per the Global Principal Investigator, Prof. Andreas Baumbach, “The Landmark trial showed that the Myval THV series performed as safe and effective as contemporary THV series. It is a valve made for everyday clinical practice and an all-comers population. The special feature of intermediate diameters allows for more accurate sizing, which has the potential to translate into improved long-term outcomes. Our patients will be followed up for 10 years and it will be interesting to see the long-term results in the three treatment arms.”
Mr. Sanjeev Bhatt, Sr. Vice President – Corporate Strategy at Meril said, ” In a successful development in structural heart interventions, the LANDMARK RCT has revealed compelling results for the novel Myval transcatheter heart valve (THV) series, confirming its non-inferiority to other contemporary THV devices. The results of LANDMARK trial are not just a win for us but for the entire medical community and, most importantly, for patients undergoing TAVI. This study not only reinforces the safety and efficacy of the Myval THV series but also highlights its adaptability to challenging anatomical structures,”.

AHF India Cares, Palladium India Partner for Nationwide HIV Testing Project

17-05-2024, India – As we celebrate World HIV Vaccination Day on May 18th every year, it’s imperative to acknowledge the stark reality: an estimated 38 million people worldwide are living with HIV/AIDS, of which 2.3 million are in India alone. As HIV vaccine remains elusive, the significance of early diagnosis and linkage to care for People Living with HIV (PLHIV) cannot be overstated. Early detection allows for timely intervention and treatment, which can significantly improve health outcomes and quality of life for PLHIV. Moreover, proper linkage to care ensures that individuals receive comprehensive medical attention. It also facilitates ongoing monitoring of the virus’s progression, management of symptoms, and prevention of opportunistic infections.
The early diagnosis and linkage to care have significantly improved the lives of millions of individuals like Ranjita Devi (name changed) whose life took an unexpected turn in February 2023. At one of the screening camps in Samastipur, Bihar, organized by Palladium as part of the Community Based HIV Testing and Linkage (CBHTL) project by AHF India Cares, she tested positive for HIV.
As part of the National HIV Counseling and Testing protocol, Ranjita underwent a confirmatory test at the nearest Integrated Counseling and Testing Centre. The results were perplexing – while kit 1 showed a negative outcome, kit 2 displayed a positive result. Seeking clarity, Ranjita was referred to a hospital in Muzaffarpur for another confirmatory test. However, even after repeated tests, the outcome remained unchanged, plunging Ranjita deeper into despair.
Recognizing the urgency of the situation, the Palladium team reached out to the ICTC Counselor at the District Hospital, initiating a chain of consultations for determining the correct diagnosis. With the intervention of Bihar SACS, an Eliza test was conducted at the blood bank in Samastipur. Finally, Ranjita underwent the confirmatory test in January 2024, which conclusively confirmed her diagnosis. Ranjita was immediately put on treatment.
The correct and early diagnosis and subsequent linkage to care were crucial in Ranjita’s journey. With the support of healthcare professionals and compassionate guidance from the ART Center doctors, she understood that HIV is not the end of the world. She gained a deeper understanding of the pervasive taboo surrounding HIV, recognizing the complex societal attitudes and misconceptions that contribute to discrimination and marginalization of those living with the virus. Today Ranjita is living a healthy life with dignity and creates awareness around her about HIV.
Mr. Amit Patjoshi, CEO, Palladium India, said, “We extend our heartfelt gratitude to AHF India Cares for this invaluable partnership.” He further added, “Recognizing the significance of last-mile support, AHF India Cares collaborated with Palladium India to bolster community-based rapid testing, counseling, and linkage services across 9 States and 22 districts of India. Palladium is working within the framework of the National AIDS and STI Control Programme (NACP) to ensure that no individual is left behind in the fight against HIV/AIDS. In 2023, the project screened a total of 2,51,000 persons with and attained a 90% linkage to Antiretroviral Therapy (ART). While this year, the program has already screened 66,187 people for HIV, of which 994 people are HIV positive with 84% linked to ART.
HIV care means embracing early diagnosis and treatment, empowering individuals to take control of their health, and fostering a community of support and compassion. Together, we can break barriers, save lives, and build a healthier, brighter future.
