India Adds 1.2 GW Rooftop Solar Capacity in Q1 2025
May 28, 2025 – India added 1.2 GW of rooftop solar capacity in the first quarter (Q1) of 2025, a drop of over 6% from 1.3 GW in Q4 2024. Installations were up 232% year-over-year (YoY) compared to the 366.5 MW installed in Q1 2024, according to Mercom India Research’s newly released Q1 2025 India Rooftop Solar Market Report.
The capacity added during the quarter was the second-highest ever recorded for rooftop solar installations. The PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PM Surya Ghar program) remained the primary growth driver, accounting for over 77% of total installations. However, the quarter fell short of setting a new record due to implementation bottlenecks within the program, rising system costs, and a shortage of Domestic Content Requirement (DCR) compliant solar modules.
The residential segment accounted for nearly 78% of installations in Q1 2025. The industrial, commercial, and government segments accounted for approximately 16%, 6%, and 0.4% of total capacity added during the quarter.
Installations under the capital expenditure (CAPEX) model accounted for over 91% of the quarterly additions, and capacity additions under the operational expenditure or renewable energy service company (OPEX/RESCO) model accounted for about 9% of the installations in Q1 2025.
“Momentum in the residential solar segment has slowed due to implementation hurdles in the Surya Ghar program, persistent component shortages, and high system costs. Consumer expectations are not being met, whether it is cost, quality, or installation timelines. Addressing these issues is critical to unlocking the true potential of the residential solar market,” said Raj Prabhu, CEO of Mercom Capital Group.
Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh led rooftop solar capacity additions during the quarter, accounting for more than 16%, 14%, and 13%, respectively.
Rooftop solar tenders totaling 494.2 MW were issued in Q1 2025, down by over 53% quarter-over-quarter and 41% YoY.
Tenders to add rooftop solar systems on government buildings across India accounted for about 82% of tendered capacity in Q1 2025. Almost 39% of the tenders issued for government buildings fell under the PM Surya Ghar program.
In Q1 2025, rooftop solar accounted for over 18% of the total solar installations in the country.
Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan topped the country’s cumulative installed rooftop solar capacity, accounting for over 28%, 15%, and 7%, respectively.
In Q1 2025, the average cost of a rooftop solar system increased by approximately 1% QoQ and was up by nearly 22% YoY.
India’s cumulative rooftop solar installations reached 14.9 GW at the end of Q1 2025.
Between Q1 2024 and Q1 2025, Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest compounded quarterly growth rate, exceeding 15%, followed by Madhya Pradesh and Kerala, with growth rates of over 11% and 9%, respectively. Uttar Pradesh offers an additional subsidy for rooftop solar installations and aims to achieve a 25% share in the PM Surya Ghar program, with a target of installing 2.5 million rooftop solar systems by 2027.
The top 10 states accounted for over 86% of total rooftop solar installations in Q1 2025.
The report also includes a comprehensive analysis of net metering policies in all Indian states and Union Territories.

Quick Heal Technologies Limited Reiterates Its Commitment to Cyber Fraud Prevention, Launches Freemium Model of AntiFraud.AI
Pune, May 28th, 2025: In the face of rising cross-border cyber threats and increasing digital footprint among citizens, Quick Heal Technologies Limited, India’s most trusted name in cybersecurity, has announced a strategic move to offer its flagship fraud prevention solution AntiFraud.AI’s Freemium version. This bold and timely decision comes amid heightened cyber warfare activity, especially in the backdrop of escalating India-Pakistan tensions, where the digital front is as critical as the physical.
Amongst a host of features, AntiFraud.AI’s unique ability to detect not only malicious apps that are visible on the phone but also hidden or “invisible” apps sets it apart in the cybersecurity landscape. AntiFraud.AI alerts users about such apps, and helps them take corrective actions, making it an essential layer of defense for every mobile user.
Recognising the urgency of protecting citizens from scams, spyware, and cyber fraud, Quick Heal has extended this solution as a Freemium offering, ensuring access to essential protection tools at no cost to ensure consumers can go digital fearlessly. The offering includes features like:
Fraud App Detector to uncover harmful apps (both visible and hidden),
Scam Protection,
Risk Profile Assessment to gauge fraud exposure,
Call Forwarding Alert, Banking Fraud Alert, Payee Name Announcer, Fraud Protect Buddy, and Unauthorized Access Alert among others.
Speaking about this significant initiative, Vishal Salvi, CEO of Quick Heal Technologies Limited, said:
“At Quick Heal, we believe cyber safety is a fundamental right for all. In these tense times where, digital threats often mirror real-world conflict, it is our duty to stand with the nation. By making AntiFraud.AI’s Freemium version available to everyone at no cost, we’re reinforcing our commitment to national interest — helping every citizen stay protected against the evolving tactics of cybercriminals and fraudsters.”
This initiative aligns with the urgent need to safeguard India’s digital ecosystem, especially as the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C) reported cyber fraud losses reaching ₹1750 crores in early 2024, with over 740,000 cases registered on the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal. His Story of Itihaas: The Film That Challenges History — And the Silence Around It
Delhi, May 28, 2025: In an era when history is contested and narratives are under scrutiny, a bold new film is stepping into the conversation. His Story of Itihaas, directed by debutant Manpreet Singh Dhami and starring acclaimed actor Subodh Bhave, is set to release on 30th May 2025.

The film had its special preview screening at Odeon Inox, Connaught Place, New Delhi, hosted by Panchkarma Films. Present at the event was Shri Ashish Sood, Hon’ble Education Minister, Government of Delhi NCT, Prof. Anil D. Sahasrabudhe Chairman, NETF & Executive Committee NAAC, Prof. Kapil Kumar and many more who deeply resonated with the film’s theme and praised its courage.
“This film sheds light on critical aspects of our society that have long remained ignored. Such thought-provoking efforts play a vital role in connecting our youth with the deeper truths of history, society, and life,” Shri Ashish Sood shared after the screening.
A Father, A Teacher, A Question No One Asked
At the heart of His Story of Itihaas is Namit, a quiet physics teacher whose discovery of ideological distortions in his daughter’s history textbooks leads him down a treacherous path — from schools to courtrooms, and from disillusionment to defiance.
Subodh Bhave’s performance captures the inner turbulence of a man who starts off questioning a textbook and ends up questioning the system.
Inspired by the real-life work of Neeraj Atri, a physicist who challenged the content of school history books, the film is the result of director Manpreet Singh Dhami’s four-year research journey — one that was rejected by over 60 actors and funders before it finally came to life.
“They told me not to touch this topic,” says Dhami. “But I couldn’t stay silent once I understood what was at stake.”
A Movement Disguised as a Movie
His Story of Itihaas is not just cinema — it’s a mirror to the education system and the selective storytelling that shapes our national identity. It questions whether our children are learning the truth or merely a version curated by past powers.
The trailer has triggered conversations across social media, with audiences calling it “a gut-punch to intellectual apathy” and “a cinematic call to unlearn.”

Experts Call for Access Reforms Amid Rising Cases of Acute Myeloid Leukaemia in Mumbai
Mumbai, 28th May 2025 – In a city recognized for its premier cancer treatment centers, Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) remains a growing yet under-recognized health emergency. At an awareness discussion hosted by AbbVie India, leading oncologists, from the city spoke the need to examine Mumbai’s AML burden and its impact on healthcare access, survival outcomes, and affordability. For many patients, the onset is silent, the symptoms vague, and the window for intervention tragically narrow. Despite global strides in targeted therapies and diagnostics, India still faces major challenges in awareness, access, and affordability. With cases gradually rising, experts are calling for AML to be recognized as a national health priority to prevent avoidable loss of life.
Though Mumbai houses renowned oncology centers, access to molecular diagnostics and AML-targeted therapies remains limited outside certain hospitals. Many patients delay treatment due to financial constraints or seek care in late stages when treatment is less effective.
Dr. Abhay A. Bhave, MD, FRCPA(Australia) ,Haematologist, Lilavati Hospital and Research Centre in Bandra West, Mumbai said, “Acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), while rare among all haematological malignancies, is the most feared one. It has an excellent chemotherapy combination for control of disease, including deep remission (control, not cure), but is fraught with complications, including life-threatening ones due to severe infections and bone marrow suppression. Literally, we carpet bomb the bone marrow with chemotherapy and hope that the fire settles in time to allow normal blood cells to regrow in the bone marrow! Sometimes this fire is uncontrolled, and we remain helplessly as passive onlookers. Fortunately, with better supportive care and facilities and with earlier diagnosis, we can still win in many of these patients and plan at least a functional cure with treatment followed by bone marrow transplantation.”
He further added, “AML can be a relapsing, relentless disease based on the genes that cause this disease. Fortunately, many new agents are available in the Indian market that allow precision therapy and hence better outcomes. However, this adds to cost and not all patients are able to avail the same. Also Allogeneic bone marrow transplantation (normal HLA-matched stem cells from a relative or unrelated donor given to the patient) is expensive and not easy to obtain.”
“In 60% of the AML cases we see, patients arrive in advanced stages with infection and bleeding which impairs our ability to give full treatment to such patients. However with advent of newer agents which are non chemo therapy we are able to give a chance of treatment to such difficult patient presentations. Better public and physician awareness along with routine molecular screening may help save many lives said, Dr Punit L Jain, MBBS, MD, DM (Clinical Hematology) Fellowship (Leukemia) MD Anderson Cancer Center, USA |,Oncology at Apollo Hospitals, Mumbai
Advances in AML Treatment: A Hopeful Shift
Traditional chemotherapy, the mainstay of AML treatment, has often been poorly tolerated, especially in older patients. However, the emergence of targeted therapies—which act on specific genetic mutations driving the disease—has dramatically improved remission rates, reduced toxicity, and enhanced quality of life for patients globally.
India, however, has yet to fully benefit from these advancements. Access to molecular and genetic testing remains largely confined to private urban centers. Targeted drugs are often unaffordable, as they are not included in public health schemes or the National Cancer Drug Registry.
Policy Imperatives: A Roadmap for Transforming AML Care in India
To address the unmet needs in AML diagnosis and treatment, stakeholders are urging the Indian healthcare system to adopt a multi-pronged strategy:
- Recognize AML as a Public Health Priority: Integrate AML into the national cancer control strategy to enable focused funding, epidemiological tracking, and research prioritization.
- Expand Access to Diagnostics: Establish infrastructure for molecular and genetic testing at government and tertiary care hospitals. Promote public-private partnerships to train diagnostic personnel and scale up access.
- List AML-targeted Therapies in the National Cancer Drug Registry: Ensure regulatory inclusion of new therapies and adopt pricing mechanisms like subsidies or government procurement to reduce costs.
- Reform Insurance and Reimbursement: Include AML-targeted therapies in Ayushman Bharat and private insurance schemes to ease out-of-pocket expenditure for patients.
- Launch a National Awareness and Screening Program: Drive public education on early AML symptoms through national campaigns and equip general practitioners with tools for early detection.
- Integrate AML into National Health Data Systems: Link AML cases to digital health records and cancer registries for real-time tracking and better health planning.
- Support Clinical Research and Trials: Provide regulatory and financial incentives for India-focused AML research to enable locally viable treatment protocols and innovations.

With AI agent adoption expected to jump 383% over the next two years, leading to a productivity gain of 41.7%, HR leaders in India are reimagining the way organizations structure and skill their workforce. The findings reveal that CHROs in India expect to redeploy nearly a quarter (24.7%) of their workforce as their organizations implement and embrace digital labor.
The study also highlighted a growing focus on AI reskilling programs. 88% of Indian HR chiefs are or are planning to reskill their workers to be more competitive in a market shaped by AI agents. Most of these leaders (81%) also agree that soft skills like relationship building and collaboration will be even more critical as humans work alongside agents.
Why it matters: 85% of Indian HR leaders agree the workforce will be made up of humans and agents in the next five years. And yet, 88% say their organizations have yet to implement agentic AI and 63% say employees don’t yet understand how digital labor will impact their work. As agentic AI reshapes the workplace — and the skills workers need to succeed — understanding how HR leaders are ensuring organizational resilience is critically important.
