Celebrates Annual Day & Awards Ceremony 2023

The ceremony’s highlight was its Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) theme, titled “Celebrating Micro Cuisines of India with a Sustainable Development Goal Focus.” This theme underscored WGSHA’s commitment to sustainability and celebrated India’s rich and diverse culinary heritage, spotlighting lesser-known micro cuisines from Bikaner, Indore, and Bhubaneswar.

Dr. Chef K. Thirugnanasambantham, Principal of WGSHA, presented the Annual Report for 2023, outlining the college’s milestones, including accreditations, collaborations, student achievements, international study tours, and faculty recognitions. Mr. Sanjay Bose, the Chief Guest, lauded WGSHA’s contributions to national building and its partnership with ITC Ltd. He praised WGSHA for its emphasis on nurturing not only academic excellence but also human values and conscience. The Guest of Honour, Lt. Gen. (Dr.) M. D. Venkatesh, Vice Chancellor of MAHE, commended WGSHA for its exceptional service during the MAHE Convocation and its participation in the G20 summit at New Delhi. He highlighted WGSHA’s national and global reputation as a premier hotel school and its significant contribution to MAHE’s impressive NIRF rankings.

The ceremony also witnessed the release of a book titled “Lived Experiences of Hospitality Connoisseurs”, featuring 52 short cases authored by WGSHA faculty members. Key awards of the evening included ITC Chairman’s Gold Medals for academic excellence and the prestigious Distinguished Alumnus and Alumna Awards for 2023, conferred to Mr Giju Varghese and Ms. Sumita Kaul, respectively. The event concluded with a cultural extravaganza, featuring energetic dances and drama, followed by a themed dinner prepared by student chefs, paying homage to the culinary delights of Bikaner, Indore, and Bhubaneswar. AWS helps transform Thane Municipal School into a vibrant learning hub

December 12, 2023 | Thane, Maharashtra: Amazon Web Services (AWS) continues its focus to provide essential infrastructure to local communities in Thane, Maharashtra. Its latest effort is towards the renovation and beautification of the Thane Municipal School (school no. 4/60/112) as part of its AWS InCommunities program, which aims to make a positive impact to communities, especially in regions where AWS operates.

The renovated school was inaugurated on December 11, 2023, in the presence of dignitaries including Prerana Kadam, Center Head, Education Department, Thane Municipal Corporation; Sanjay Bhoir, Ex Corporator, Thane Municipal Corporation; Carly Wishart, Director, Data Center Planning and Delivery, Asia-Pacific Japan and China, AWS; and Kerry Person, Vice President, Data Centre Planning and Delivery, AWS.

The renovation effort at the Thane Municipal School includes electrical, plumbing and civil related work undertaken to improve the school infrastructure and create a comfortable, vibrant, and friendly space for the students and staff. The school also has a renovated library and new furniture, and its walls have been decorated with colourful, interactive, localized murals, to provide friendly learning spaces and resources to children.

AWS’s association with Thane Municipal School began when it introduced the AWS Think Big Spaces program there in June this year. The AWS Think Big Spaces program is focused on enabling students to cultivate an interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) disciplines. AWS InCommunities has also been running a supplementary nutrition program in this school, where students are given nutritious laddoos each day to support their general health and enable them to more actively participate in classroom education and co-curricular activities.

This latest initiative by AWS in Thane adds to the multiple initiatives it has already undertaken in the Mumbai Metro Region to enable access of STEAM education in fun and interactive ways, such as the launch of the AWS Think Big Spaces program in 2020, and the annual AWS Think Big Science Carnival event, which saw more than 2,300 school students from 50 Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation schools attend the finale this year, showcasing innovative projects in agriculture and food safety, health and hygiene, environment conservation, renewal energy, and disaster management.

The initiatives under the AWS InCommunities program in India are focused on holistic community development, including the environment, people, and overall wellness. The AWS InCommunities program was first implemented in India in Maharashtra’s Navi Mumbai in 2018, before being extended to Telangana’s Rangareddy district in 2020. Since then, AWS InCommunities programs have focused on the development of sustainable communities by implementing impactful programs to protect wildlife and the environment and bolster the local economy, essential education and health infrastructure, and other basic amenities.

With the in-depth application and development of cloud computing technologies, DevOps based on cloud-native technologies is facing new challenges during intelligent digital transformation. China Mobile is promoting cloud-native evolution and DevOps transformation by building a DevSecOps platform. China Mobile Jiangsu and Huawei have carried out DevOps practices based on this platform at Huawei’s BSS project, and have built delivery capabilities including agile development, CICD pipeline, gray release, and AI-based intelligent O&M. The platform helped China Mobile Jiangsu implement comprehensive transformation in cloud-native architecture, digital delivery, and intelligent O&M, shortening the requirement delivery period and issue resolution period by 50% and 49% respectively and improving the self-healing rate of system process faults by 90%.

During its recent Dubai COP28 Acer Global Press Conference, the company introduced its forward-looking “Conscious Technology” vision, emphasizing the creation of technology with a focus on future considerations. Acer has also pledged a commitment to achieving carbon neutrality for its Aspire Vero laptop line, beginning with the latest Aspire Vero 16 model. Acer has also joined the RE100 initiative and committed to sourcing 100% renewable electricity by 2035. It has also pledged to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. As one of the world’s top ICT companies, Acer seeks to amplify positive impacts on the environment through united actions; 60% of its critical suppliers have committed to RE100 or set science-based carbon reduction targets (SBT). Acer has set a goal to use 20-30% post-consumer recycled plastic in its computers and monitors by 2025, for which 17% use was achieved in 2022.
