Year-End Challenges in Q4 2023

Year-End Challenges in Q4 2023

New York, NY, April 08, 2024 — While year-end remains the busiest giving season in the US, long-term declines in charitable giving trends remained in Q4 2023. FEP’s latest quarterly data, released and announced at AFP ICON 2024, acutely shows the growing challenge for American nonprofits: a near-universal decline in fundraising metrics, including dollars raised, donor counts, and retention when compared to 2022.

While the declines were minor compared to weakening in previous quarters, a drop in the total number of donations from all donor sizes demonstrates an evolving challenge for fundraisers. Despite these downward trends, small organizations showed the highest resilience, achieving some fundraising stability year-over-year.

The full Q4 2023 report is available here.

The Fundraising Effectiveness Project (FEP) is a collaboration among fundraising data providers, researchers, analysts, associations, and consultants to empower the sector to track and evaluate trends in giving. The project offers one of the only views of the current year’s fundraising data in aggregate to provide the most recent trends for guiding nonprofit fundraising and donor engagement. The FEP releases quarterly findings on those giving trends, released both via downloadable reports at afpglobal.org/fep and in a free online dashboard.

FEP Q4 2023 Report Key Takeaways
— Q4 data shows a persistent decline in all fundraising metrics, including a 2.8% YOY drop in dollars raised. This includes near universal decline in the frequency and total amount of donations by donors of all sizes, highlighting a continuing trend that began in 2021. Donors contributing more than $50K were the largest driver of the overall decline in funds donated, accounting for over half of all dollars raised despite representing only 0.3% of donors.

— An overall decline in donors was also evident in the Q4 data, with a 3.4% drop year-over-year. This decrease was largely due to fewer donors contributing less than $500, a group which still accounted for over 80% of all donors. This was matched by a 2.5% decrease in donor retention, which appeared across all donor sizes and types.

— While most organization sizes experienced a decrease in fundraising totals, small organizations (≤ $100K) saw stable dollars raised in Q4, meaning that organization size has become a greater determining factor in fundraising performance.

“While some analysis is optimistic about fundraising results over the next two years, including recent predictions from the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy, it takes time and effort to buck long-term trends,” noted Woodrow Rosenbaum, Chief Data Officer of GivingTuesday. “Our Q4 FEP data shows that significant challenges still remain for potential recovery in the sector. Strengthening the social sector in 2024 will require nonprofits of all sizes to focus on frequent engagement with supporters and with the communities their donors are part of. Americans want to give, in both formal and informal ways, and nonprofits need to reinforce the value of giving and the impact of their work while unlocking new ways for supporters to engage with their causes.”

Based on this Q4 data, the sector as a whole needs to work together to achieve stability and growth in 2024. With early 2024 inflation still outpacing 3%, finding ways to reach out to more Americans more frequently will be crucial to capture the generosity of diverse groups.

“As we continue to face declines in donors and dollars, it is increasingly important for organizations to foster a culture of philanthropy that withstands economic fluctuations,” said Mike Geiger, MBA, CPA, the President and CEO of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) and the AFP Foundation for Philanthropy. “We need to reimagine traditional approaches to donor acquisition and retention, embrace emerging technologies to broaden outreach and engagement, and renew our focus on donor stewardship. In this era of unprecedented volatility, the ability to adapt and innovate will not only be the hallmark of successful fundraising efforts but also the cornerstone of sustained mission-driven impact.”

Lauren Sheehan, President of DonorPerfect, agrees. “The FEP data shows how challenging fundraising can be, but today there are so many new opportunities for nonprofits to engage their community and create momentum for growth. To return to higher funding levels we’ve seen in the past, organizations must focus on acquiring recurring donors and prioritize ongoing donor engagement. By taking a human-first approach to connecting with their supporters, including personalized outreach and developing data-informed strategies and plans, organizations can build stronger relationships with their community at every level. With the right mindset and technology, the sector can weather this difficult season and emerge even stronger.”

FEP reports are made possible by the generous support of collaborating data providers, including Bloomerang, Classy, Community Brands, DonorPerfect, Keela, NeonOne, and Qgiv. FEP’s partner network also includes data analysis and additional support from Bonterra. All giving platforms are welcome to join these efforts and increase data coverage, enhancing the accuracy and accessibility of efforts to provide measured analysis to the social sector.

Richard Harteis’s Latest Collection of Poetry

Richard Harteis's Latest Collection of Poetry

New London, CT, April 08, 2024 –If a crumb falls from a table, it falls to the earth because of gravity. In space, there is no gravity, and a crumb becomes a kind of dangerous missile, a drop of water, or a tear, a fountainhead. Gravity is a function of time the poet tells us; in space there is no time.

So it is with these “crumbs,” written after too much sativa, mindful observations of the particulars of life, hence the title of Harteis’s new book, “CRUMBS.”

In his book letters to a young poet, Rilke says that everything will become easier, “if you trust in Nature, and what is simple in Nature in the small things that hardly anyone sees, and that can so suddenly become huge, immeasurable, if you have this love for what is humble, and try very simply as someone who serves to win the confidence of what seems poor.” And Richard Wilbur has described how fruitful an aesthetic is that focuses on things. “Nothing but in things,” the bard from New Jersey reminds us.

In his book, the Power of Now, and later in The New Earth, Eckhart Tolle tells us that the goal is look at reality with full attention, full consciousness. And so these small crumbs.

In legend one leaves crumbs by the wayside to find our way back home. What happens if a bird or some creature eats the crumbs we have carefully left to guide us? Are we lost? It is in placing the crumbs that matters. Paying attention to our life, marking the moments that have caused us to stop and make sense of what has just happened. Only an exercise in observation perhaps, but fruitful one hopes, or at least pleasurable for a reader: getting to know another human being in language. All art is an attempt to overcome our physical limitations, to transcend ourselves, and greet another with love.

Nubtle Inc. introduces major updates

Toronto, Canada, April 08, 2024 — nubtle Inc., a pioneer in digital marketing and search platforms, is thrilled to unveil a series of transformative updates and enhancements to its platform, reinforcing its commitment to innovation, user empowerment, and privacy. These updates mark a significant evolution from nubtle’s original offerings, introducing an advanced search engine, a robust influencer collaboration contract system, and a plethora of features aimed at enriching the experience for vendors, influencers, and customers alike.

Enhanced Vendor Visibility
nubtle’s search engine revolutionizes how consumers find and interact with vendors. Prior to making any commitment or sharing personal information, users can now access comprehensive vendor profiles directly from the search result page. These profiles offer a deep dive into the vendor’s world, showcasing working hours, ratings, a photo gallery, and a complete list of services offered, alongside insights into how they’ve successfully matched with similar requests previously. This transparent approach ensures consumers can make informed decisions effortlessly.
To further simplify the process, consumers interested in proceeding with a request or booking can do so by merely entering their contact information, such as an email, and verifying it with a one-time code. This streamlined process directly sends their request to the vendor for review. Additionally, each vendor now boasts their own dedicated page on nubtle, allowing appointments to be requested directly through their unique URL, bypassing the search process for consumers who already have a vendor in mind.

Revolutionizing Influencer Collaborations
nubtle has significantly expanded its platform to include tens of thousands of vendor and influencer profiles from the US and Canada, introducing a “vendor-influencer discovery” system. This feature enables both influencers and vendors to search for potential matches, send collaboration requests, and initiate contracts. These contracts can be tailored to include fixed pricing, commissions, or a combination of both, allowing for authentic content creation experiences as influencers can receive services from the vendors they’re promoting.

Influencers are afforded complete control over the content they produce, including usage rights, posting locations, and detailed payment requests, ensuring a flexible yet secure collaboration environment. This system protects influencers’ rights while offering them the freedom to dictate the terms of their engagements.

The introduction of a revision system with watermarking adds an additional layer of security, preventing unauthorized use of an influencer’s work. Vendors are granted access only to watermarked versions of the content until they have completed payment, at which point the original, unmarked files are released.

Moreover, nubtle Promo opens up commission-based promotions to all users, not just creators. This means anyone who has enjoyed a service and wishes to refer others can easily generate a unique referral link after scanning the vendor’s nubtle promotional QR code. This link leads directly to the vendor’s booking page on nubtle, and any bookings made through this link will earn the referrer a commission. This feature democratizes the ability to earn through referrals, making it accessible to everyone, regardless of their status as a creator on the platform.
These updates underscore nubtle’s commitment to enhancing user experience, fostering authentic connections, and ensuring a secure and transparent platform for vendors, influencers, and consumers alike.

What’s New:

Enhanced Vendor Visibility: Complete vendor profiles are now accessible to customers before making a decision, providing a wealth of information to ensure the best match.

Learn How Hexnode’s Allow Market Place App Installation

San Franciso, CA, April 08, 2024 — In light of Apple’s recent announcement concerning the introduction of sideloading and alternate app stores for its European iPhones, Hexnode has rolled out the “allowMarketplaceAppInstallation” feature for enterprises. This new restriction empowers IT administrators to effortlessly block sideloading by toggling the option to false, effectively fortifying the ecosystem against unauthorized access to third-party app stores.

Digital Markets Acts- European Union vs. iOS?

In 2022, the European Union (EU) enacted the Digital Markets Act (DMA), a regulatory framework crafted to promote equitable competition within digital markets. Under this legislation, certain online platforms can be designated as “gatekeepers,” with accompanying obligations to curb anti-competitive practices. Consequently, Apple had to let go of its “walled garden” approach and embrace the EU’s demands. With the imminent launch of iOS 17.4, the tech giant introduced an alternative app marketplace, app stores hosted and operated by third parties in Europe. These platforms will have the capability to deliver apps directly to iPhones from sources outside the App Store. It’s worth noting that access to alternative app marketplaces will be limited to EU countries and devices running iOS 17.4 or later models.

Is Security at Stake?

While these transformative developments herald new challenges for iOS deployments across Europe, Hexnode offers comprehensive solutions to manage and mitigate these changes through a suite of new and updated commands and restrictions:

– Marketplace App Installation: Administrators can prevent the installation of applications sourced from the web and curtail the installation of apps originating from any alternative marketplace apps already installed.

– Install Apps from App Store: Prevents users from accessing the App Store, leading to the removal of its icon from the home screen. This restriction equally applies to alternative marketplace stores and their associated applications.

– Remove Apps: Disables the removal of applications from iOS devices, encompassing those obtained from alternative marketplace platforms.

Apple emphasizes that alternate distribution channels, if not effectively regulated, could heighten privacy, security, and safety concerns for both users and developers. Additionally, the company acknowledges its limited capacity to mitigate these risks and provide adequate support and refunds to affected customers. Consequently, while these shifts may present opportunities for threat actors to exploit vulnerabilities and access sensitive user or corporate data, it falls upon administrators to implement appropriate security protocols to thwart potential threats stemming from malicious code or pirated software infiltrating their iOS ecosystem.

Syngenta MD Susheel Kumar applauds Haryana farmers’ adoption of new technologies

Syngenta MD Susheel Kumar

Kurukshetra/Karnal, 8th April 2024: Reiterating its commitment to empowering farmers, Susheel Kumar, Country Head and MD of Syngenta India, a leading Swiss-based agri-science company, on Saturday applauded the ease and speed with which Haryana farmers have adopted the use of drones and other technologies including CropWise Growers App. Joining a drone flying demonstration by Syngenta-trained drone pilots at the Integrated Beekeeping Development Centre (IBDC) in Kurukshetra, Kumar said Haryana was poised for faster growth with a mix of enabling policies and progressive vision of farmers. IBDC is an Indo-Israel agriculture project established by the Department of Horticulture, Govt. of Haryana for the development of beekeeping in Haryana. Kumar visited the facility and expressed keen interest in the activities of IBDC. The support to IBDC is in keeping with Syngenta’s commitment to sustainability and conservation of pollinators.

A native of Haryana, who loves to call himself ‘son of the soil’ Kumar said Syngenta will continue to support initiatives of the Haryana government to empower farmers through futuristic farming techniques and practices. “Farmers safety is at the heart of Syngenta and towards this we carry out stewardship activities to train farmers on safe spraying,” Kumar added.

Syngenta’s R&D Center is a 25-year-old state-of-the-art facility in Karnal carrying out breeding activities of seeds like Okra, Watermelon, Tomato, and cucumber. “Through its continued emphasis on high-quality research, the Centre is dedicated to providing the finest varieties for best yields and economic gains of farmers in Haryana and north India,” said Kumar while demonstrating to the farmers the various activities being carried out here.

Later, Kumar also joined a group of farmers who demonstrated drone flying. “Under our CSR program, in collaboration with Syngenta Foundation of India, we launched a drone pilots training program under which we have trained 100 drone pilots in Haryana including 18 women, from across 16 districts of Haryana. This is a game-changer for it will not only provide new employment and entrepreneurship opportunities for the youth, but will also enhance efficiency for our farmers, and help in their yields. It augurs well for the future of farming in Haryana, as drones help in precision spraying of crop protection solutions saving resources and time,” Kumar said.

With the increasing role of drones in boosting agricultural productivity and empowering farmers, this initiative aims to equip farmers of Haryana with the benefits and implications of modern farming practices and also educate farmers about the transformative potential of drones in farming, including efficiency improvements, cost reductions, and the promotion of sustainable practices.

Syngenta’s farmer-focused CSR and stewardship efforts, such as I-CLEAN (Inculcating Cleanliness, Learning, Education, Awareness, and New Habits), I-SAFE (Inculcating Safety Awareness for Farmer Empowerment), WeCare, Soil Care, and Drone Awareness Yatras, have played a key role in bringing positive transformations at the grassroots level.

Syngenta has been implementing SoilCare projects across states since 2019. In Haryana, we conducted 1000 Soil tests and provided Soil Health Cards to farmers in 2023 along with education on how to analyse the test report and the way forward.

“Under WeCare where we partner with schools and academic institutions to educate young children on safety needs and leverage them as ambassadors. This initiative brings about a behavioral change in farmers,” informed Kumar.

Emphasizing on the key role of technology in achieving sustainable agriculture, Kumar said that Syngenta India is at the forefront of enabling farmers to embrace innovation, not only for a greener future but also for increased productivity and improved income. Highlighting the significance of technology integration in agriculture, he noted that the world faces escalating food demand and environmental challenges. He underlined how technology adoption in agriculture can ensure food security, resilience, and resource-efficient farming systems.
