Indian Chamber of Commerce organises 5th Gems & Jewellery Summit – Vision 2025
Kolkata, 27th March 2023: The Indian Chamber of Commerce organised the “5th Gems & Jewellery Summit 2023” on March 24th to discuss the Gold Industry Vision 2025. The session witnessed valuable insights on India’s Gold Market – the stimulus to exports, economic growth and employment from Mr Somasundaram PR, Regional CEO – India, World Gold Council; Mr Rajeev Garg, CEO, Gem & Jewellery Skill Council of India (GJSCI); Ms Vandana Yadav, I.A.S., Principal Secretary, Department of Industry, Commerce & Enterprises Government of West Bengal & MD, WBIDC; Mr Vinod Bamalwa, Chairman, Indian Chamber of Commerce Expert Committee on Jewellery & Lifestyle and Mr Suvankar Sen, Co-Chairman, Indian Chamber of Commerce National Expert Committee on Jewellery & Lifestyle.
While delivering the welcome address, Mr Vinod Bamalwa, Chairman, Indian Chamber of Commerce Expert Committee on Jewellery & Lifestyle, said, “The demand for gems and jewellery in the nation and throughout the world has been significantly influenced by the rising middle-class customers in a developing country and a growing fashion chain. Diamonds are currently more in demand than ever, especially in terms of new fashion trends. The most recent styles in the gem and jewellery sector are these cross-cultural ones. Emerging companies have altered customer habits around accessories, such as the decision to wear less jewellery.”
Commenting on the theme, Mr Somasundaram PR, Regional CEO – India, World Gold Council, said, “East India is the biggest market for gold. During the past few years, the administration has achieved great strides. India has the second-largest gold market in the world and the second-largest consumption of gold. India spends $60 billion on gold annually. However, we must consider global developments because gold is currently making a comeback. It is once more becoming an important financial asset. One important investment is gold. Around the world, gold is the subject of numerous events. In our own country, we have a need for resources, growing costs, and a wide range of future uses for gold. According to our survey, Consumers are worried about the industry’s purity, per our poll, which highlights the need for a single voice for the gold sector. A self-regulatory body is also necessary for the gold sector. The Indian Chamber of Commerce can play a crucial role in India’s ability to significantly enhance its gold exports.”
Commenting on the aspect of Skill Development, Mr. Rajeev Garg, CEO, Gem & Jewellery Skill Council of India (GJSCI), said, “The gem and jewellery industries depend heavily on skill, yet regrettably, we often overlook it when calculating labour costs. In terms of creativity and expertise, gold is just another metal. If we don’t value creativity, this sector will have serious issues in the future. There is no reason to talk about the gold rate or other issues if there is no aesthetic quality. There are not enough qualified workers in the field. GJSCI is continually exploring new ways to increase its capabilities and effectiveness. With the Ankurhati Association, we have been discussing opening our own training facility in Kolkata. Yet this sector needs to emerge. It is time for every sector to step up and create its own infrastructure. In an effort to employ artificial intelligence in the gem and jewellery sectors, we are collaborating with IIT Bombay on a project. On the other side, IIT Chennai is working on lab-grown diamonds since eventually, the market for natural diamonds would be replaced by these lab-grown diamonds. We ought to discuss issues like these in an open manner.”
Commenting on the development of West Bengal Gold Market, Ms Vandana Yadav, said, “West Bengal has a very long history and involvement with this industry. We have talked about exports of diamonds, gold, and other commodities, but we must also consider the future today. The enormous amount of gold that we import needs to be given additional value before being converted to dollars. I think this is where the Bengali Karigar’s handcrafted excellence stands, and it might be its USP, particularly given that gold is a lifestyle item and everyone wants a one-of-a-kind, hand-crafted piece. We seldom ever have the capacity to offer that. We may thus educate our craftsmen about the latest technology, enhance their working environments, and produce better designs. A training programme in Ankurhati would be something we are extremely interested in organising, aside from hallmarking facilities, any sort of standardisation, and any kind of certification agency we can put up. During the last three years, I have discussed the training curriculum with several municipalities. I sincerely hope E-Council or Stay-Council would take this up because we have a complete training facility.
While delivering the vote of thanks, Suvanker Sen, Co-Chairman, Indian Chamber of Commerce National Expert Committee on Jewellery & Lifestyle, said, “I want to express my gratitude to everyone who has participated in this summit. Both time and the world around us are evolving. The most crucial element is transparency, which is immediately clear if you get the purpose of this summit. As an industry participant in this digital age, you have the option of resisting the changes or embracing them. There are ties between Bengali and Karigari. Bengal is proud of their majority contribution to the gold karigar industry. Attracting the upcoming generation to the sector, however, is now a struggle. We appreciate that the government has offered its assistance to us so that both the states and the country may continue to thrive.”

At the Mechanic meet, Tanvir Ansari from Meerut whose daughter was offered a laptop under the Muskan scholarship said “We would like to offer our compliments to the brand Valvoline on organizing this program and honoring the efforts of the kids by felicitating them with the Laptops & Tablets. With this initiative, Valvoline has given our kids wings to fly toward their dreams. The pandemic has led us to a stricken financial crisis, due to which we were not being able to afford and provide our children even with a second-hand laptop. This is when we were asked to get our kids enrolled under Valvoline’s initiative basis of merits. We were so excited when we got to know my daughter Imjaa was selected and was offered a laptop. Co-incidentally, it was our marriage anniversary when my daughter Imjaa got the laptop, we were all so excited. Valvoline has spread happiness and joy across many families with its commendable initiative. For this, we would like to congratulate the whole Valvoline team for extending a helping arm to all the deserving kids who wish to achieve their dreams.”
The pandemic has caused millions of children to discontinue their High School education due to the worsening financial situation of their parents. In Delhi alone, 15 percent of the 15 lakh enrolled students have been missing classes. Taking cognizance of the worrying trend observed across India, the brand initiated Muskaan Scholarship in 2021, in collaboration with Synergie NGO. This scholarship program aims to support the education of children between 9th and 12th standard.
Valvoline has long been a supporter of mechanics through various programs and campaigns throughout its more than 150-year history. Earlier this month, the brand commenced the 3rd edition of the Mechanic Month Campaign globally and in India. Through this initiative, the brand is inspiring people to show appreciation to their mechanics for their relentless efforts in keeping the world turning to sensitize people about the hard work that mechanics put into caring for our vehicles and encourage them to extend heartfelt messages to their trusted mechanics.
Note: Valvoline, Inc., as previously announced, has reached an agreement to sell its global products business. The sale is anticipated to close in early 2023

Sportradar Finds Number of Suspicious Matches in 2022 Increased 34%, as Further Application of Ai Enhances Bet Monitoring Capabilities
New Delhi, India 25 March 2023 – Sportradar Integrity Services, a unit of Sportradar (NASDAQ: SRAD) and a global supplier of sports integrity solutions, has today issued its second annual report, ‘Betting Corruption and Match-fixing in 2022’, revealing the company identified 1,212 suspicious matches in total in 2022, within 12 sports and in 92 countries from the 850,000 matches the company now monitors across 70+ sports globally.
While reflecting an increase of 34% from 2021, the total number of suspicious matches indicates that match-fixing occurs at a low percentage within global sport. Overall, the data confirms that 99.5% of sporting events are free from match-fixing, with no single sport having a suspicious match ratio greater than 1%.
Advancements in Sportradar’s Artificial Intelligence (AI), integrated with the Universal Fraud Detection System (UFDS), has helped to detect 438 of these matches. The application of this technology in the system has increased the amount of data points processed for every single match the company monitors to 500+ including odds, turnover, and statistical data related to the game state. This processing is happening continuously through the life cycle of a match’s betting markets, from the moment it is first offered to the moment it ends. Annually, this equates to analysing 30 billion odds changes from 600+ betting operators.
AI also analyses account-level betting data to help confirm otherwise undetectable micro-level suspicious betting activity. The model is periodically retrained on the latest data to ensure it can evolve and detect new methods of match-fixing. When all markets are settled, the model computes a prediction as to whether the match is potentially suspicious or not – providing our expert analysts with all the necessary information required to make an informed decision.
In addition to advances in technology, in 2022, the number of criminal and sporting sanctions the company supported its partners with also increased from 72 to 169, up 135% from 2021, reflecting a focus by leagues and federations to address the threat that match-fixing presents to the integrity of sport. Using Sportradar Integrity Services’ findings as evidence, sanctions were imposed by sport federations or criminal courts on those deemed guilty of cheating sport and breaking the law.
Key findings from Sportradar’s integrity report are as follows:
The AI model developed by Sportradar for its UFDS in 2022 directly identified 438 suspicious matches (36% of annual total), leveraging the vast amount of data the company already has on suspicious betting activity and reflecting the important role that technology can play in the monitoring process.
Soccer continued to have the highest number of suspicious matches (775), but one of the key trends of 2022 was the sharp rise in suspicious basketball matches (220), which increased by approximately 250% compared to 2021.
Europe continues to see the highest number of suspicious matches (630) followed by Asia (240) and South America (225) in total across all sports. Compared to 2021, the number of suspicious matches has risen in each region except North America and Oceania.
The trend from 2021 of lower-level competitions being affected has continued. In 2022, 52% of suspicious soccer matches came from the third tier or lower, including regional leagues and youth competitions.
Andreas Krannich, Managing Director, of Sportradar Integrity Services, said: “We’ve taken an even more proactive approach to uncovering match-fixing in 2022, from implementing a new AI model to developing more formal working relationships with bookmakers through the launch of our Integrity Exchange, which resulted in more than 300 alerts.
“Our technology enables us to monitor more matches on a deeper level, providing more precise and accurate insights to help aid partners, clients and the wider sports industry in efforts to safeguard sporting events from corruption. We look forward to supporting even more sports federation and law enforcement partners in 2023.”
Sportradar Integrity Services used its UFDS to monitor more than 850,000 sports matches in 2022 and to provide an in-depth analysis of the match-fixing landscape. As a large representative sample size, it can be taken as a strong indication of the true rate of match-fixing globally. The annual report serves to highlight the extent of match-fixing and raise awareness of the latest and most extensive data and trends.

IndoVision has supported EPS Global in accessing large corporations in India and maintaining a stronghold thereafter. Mr. Manish Jain, Director – of India Sales at EPS Global said, “The partnership came into existence as both the organizations met each other’s requirements in terms of tapping new markets and enhancing business output. IndoVision had a dominant presence in industries like Telco, ISP, Banking & Data, which interested us. Over time, this partnership has enabled us to expand our market size and grow our business.”
He further added, “Both the organizations have created an amazing level of trust and understanding, which benefits not just us, but eventually, the end customers as well. The ecosystems of both the companies complement each other perfectly in terms of market needs.”
Meanwhile, EPS Global has supported the Indian counterpart by enhancing its business volume at competitive pricing. Sharing his thoughts on the partnership, Mr. Sanjay Kothari, CCO at IndoVision said, “We have worked with multiple distribution partners across the globe, out of which some of them are giants, but without a doubt, I can easily vouch for EPS as the best of them, considering their flexibility, modus operandi, the support provided at various stages and last, but definitely not the least, the people in the team who work with us.”
Senior Vice President, of India and South Asia at Enterprise Ireland, Ms. Wendy Dsouza said, “The association between EPS Global and IndoVision Services has created manifold opportunities for both companies, allowing them to expand their global footprint. Enterprise Ireland is pleased to facilitate such significant international partnerships and engagements between India and Ireland.”
With Ireland becoming one of the few majority English-speaking countries in the European Union post-Brexit, Indian businesses opened up opportunities here to scale globally. As of 2022, the bilateral trade between the two nations is valued at €5.5 billion. Moreover, Irish enterprises value people-to-people connections which Indian enterprises deliver, allowing businesses to prosper from cross-national partnerships.
