Plant trees, breathe better, says Punjabi Singer Gurnazar as he joins Roundglass Foundation in planting 3,100 trees in Dhakansu Kalan
Mohali, May 27, 2025 — Popular Punjabi singer-songwriter Gurnazar Chattha lent his voice and support to environmental conservation by participating in a tree plantation activity organized by Roundglass Foundation in Dhakansu Kalan village, Punjab. The event was part of the Foundation’s flagship initiative, The Billion Tree Project (TBTP), which aims to plant 1 billion native trees in Punjab by 2035. Over 3 million native trees have already been planted under the initiative.
Dhakansu Kalan, a village named after the dhak tree—a species native to Punjab—saw the planting of 3,100 saplings, including 500 dhak trees, reinforcing the connection between the land and its ecological heritage.

Speaking at the event, Gurnazar said, “Most of us don’t even know that Punjab’s forest cover is so low and how planting trees is the need of the hour. Ahead of World Environment Day, I’m grateful for having got this opportunity to plant trees and join hands with Roundglass Foundation, which is doing a tremendous job of restoring Punjab’s green cover and contributing to our home’s environment. So, plant trees, and breathe better!”
Gurnazar, known for his soulful voice and hit tracks such as “Aadatan,” “Bewafa,” and “Tenu Yaad Karaan,” has amassed millions of views on YouTube and is admired for using his platform to drive meaningful change.
Roundglass Foundation’s The Billion Tree Project has so far transformed 980 acres of barren and fallow land—equivalent to 742 football fields—into thriving native forests. These green spaces now support a diverse range of birds, butterflies, insects, and other vital species, playing a key role in reviving Punjab’s biodiversity. With an impressive 90% tree survival rate, these forests are not only restoring the environment but also recharging groundwater, purifying the air, and helping communities combat climate change.
This collaboration marks another meaningful step in building a greener, healthier Punjab—one tree, one village, one voice at a time.

From Airports to Ecosystems: Digi Yatra Case Study by DSCI’s National CoE to Anchor New Digital Identity Vision
New Delhi, 27 May 2025: Digi Yatra Foundation, a Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI) based ecosystem utilising authentication technology for contactless and seamless passenger processing at airports, has announced a strategic collaboration with the National Centre of Excellence (CoE)-Data Security Council of India (DSCI) to co-create a #PoVDocument titled ‘The Future of Digital Identity in India: Modular, Verifiable, and Decentralised’.
As India continues its journey of rapid digital transformation, the document will serve as a thought leadership piece, laying the foundation for how decentralised identity models can improve user trust, privacy, and accessibility. The whitepaper will highlight the critical role of emerging technologies and frameworks in shaping the future of digital public infrastructure, as well as the growing need for privacy-by-design systems.
Digi Yatra Foundation’s Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI)-based platform will feature as a leading case study in the paper. It will showcase how the initiative has scaled from just three airports in 2022 to 24 across the country by 2024, facilitating 56 million seamless journeys. As a decentralised, user-consent-driven system, Digi Yatra is widely recognized for prioritising data privacy while delivering an intuitive, contactless air travel experience.
Speaking on the collaboration, Suresh Khadakbhavi, CEO of Digi Yatra Foundation, said, “This document reflects our shared vision with the Data Security Council of India to move towards a future where digital identity is not only more accessible and interoperable but also deeply respectful of user sovereignty and privacy. Digi Yatra is setting an example of how scalable, decentralised systems can be deployed at a national level while maintaining security and trust. With 13 million+ downloads, Digi Yatra has grown into a transformative force in India’s aviation sector, elevating customer experience through faster, more secure, and hassle-free travel.”
Vinayak Godse, CEO, Data Security Council of India, added, “India’s digital future requires foundational infrastructure built for trust, scale, and resilience. This Point of View document argues that modular, verifiable, and decentralised identity systems – principles we see successfully emerging in initiatives like Digi Yatra – are not merely technological advancements, but strategic national assets. Building upon this foundation nationally allows us to architect a common trust layer for Digital India. This layer, underpinned by decentralization, security and user control, is essential for enabling innovative solutions to expand beyond travel, fostering seamless, secure interactions crucial for India’s next leap in economic growth and citizen service delivery.”
The joint paper is expected to serve as a key reference for stakeholders across industries and government bodies exploring the possibilities of digital ID frameworks in India and beyond.

As Karan Johar Takes the Reins of The Traitors on Prime Video, let’s Meet the Iconic International Hosts who Made the Show a Global Sensation
With its knife-sharp twists and cloak-and-dagger gameplay, The Traitors has become one of the most successful reality formats around the world. Originated in the Netherlands as De Verraders, this reality juggernaut has since been adapted across 30 countries worldwide, each version boasting high-stakes drama, jaw-dropping reveals, and unfiltered entertainment. And what do all these editions have in common? Their enigmatic hosts. Whether it’s Claudia Winkleman’s deadpan delivery, Alan Cumming’s theatrical flair, or Karine Vanasse’s icy composure, each host brings a distinct personality that shapes how the game unfolds. As hosts, their personalities have become just as iconic as the gameplay, with them adding their own spin on betrayal, mind games, and deception. As The Traitors prepares to make its Indian debut on Prime Video on June 12, with Karan Johar at the helm, here’s a look at the iconic figures who’ve led the game of deception across the globe.
Alan Cumming – Emmy-Winning Host
In the US version of The Traitors, actor Alan Cumming took on the host’s mantle and made it completely his own. With his background in film and theatre, he brought a dramatic, campy, and highly entertaining style to the show. Hosting from a grand Scottish castle, Alan’s wardrobe, expressions, and delivery added a distinct personality to every episode. His work was also recognised with an Emmy Award in 2024, while the show won the Outstanding Reality Competition Program Award.
Claudia Winkleman – The BAFTA-Winning Face of the UK Version
British broadcaster-writer Claudia Winkleman’s hosting of the UK edition turned her into the face of the format.. Her deadpan wit, calm voice, and iconic fringe became a part of the show’s DNA. Claudia created a quiet tension that fit The Traitors perfectly. Her hosting was so well-received that she even won a BAFTA Award in 2023 for Best Entertainment Performance, and the show itself won the Best Reality Programme Award.
Tijl Beckand – The Original Host Who Launched a Global Hit
It all began here. Dutch comedian and presenter Tijl Beckand brought a perfect balance of theatrical tension and wry humour to the show’s very first version, De Verraders. His ability to keep the atmosphere tense, while also entertaining, laid the foundation for what would become a worldwide format. It was this version that set the stage for multiple international adaptations of The Traitors.
Karine Vanasse – Canada Version
In the Canadian adaptation of The Traitors, acclaimed actress Karine Vanasse played it ice-cold and razor-sharp. With a composed presence, she built the kind of psychological pressure that crept in slowly. Her hosting style matched the slow-burn tension of the game itself.
Rodger Corser – Australian Version
Best known for his work in Australian dramas, Rodger Corser brought an effortless sense of authority to The Traitors Australia. Grounded and charismatic, Rodger guided players through the mind games without ever stealing the spotlight. His cool-headed hosting style offered both comfort and caution, perfect for a game where trust is constantly tested.
As The Traitors arrives in India, Karan Johar takes the reins of the show, adding a uniquely Indian flavour to this international phenomenon. As one of Indian cinema’s most prolific storytellers and conversationalists, Karan brings just the right dose of drama, wit, and gravitas to a format that thrives on manipulation and suspense. With his signature style and sharp observations, the Indian adaptation promises to be as gripping, glamourous, and high-stakes as the versions that have captured audiences’ hearts around the world.
Produced by BBC Studios India Productions, Prime Video India brings the Indian adaptation of IDTV’s BAFTA and Emmy award-winning global format The Traitors, in collaboration with All3Media International. Premiering on June 12, The Traitors will exclusively stream on Prime Video, with new episodes dropping every Thursday at 8 PM.

Kendra Dance Festival 2025 Returns to the Spotlight with Legendary Cultural Narratives of India Amidst National Triumph

In the aftermath of a defining moment in the subcontinent’s contemporary history—where India emerged with strategic clarity and moral fortitude from the recent Indo-Pak conflict—Shriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra (SBKK) reaffirms the power of culture as the heartbeat of the nation. Against this backdrop of renewed national confidence, the Kendra Dance Festival 2025 is poised to take centre stage on the 25th of May with MEERA, 27th of May with PARIKRAMA and 29th of May with KARNA at 7:00 PM at the iconic Kamani Auditorium, New Delhi.
This year’s festival comes not merely as an annual showcase of performing arts, but as a celebration of India’s civilisational depth, spiritual resilience, and enduring storytelling traditions. While the nation salutes the bravery and precision of its armed forces in neutralising enemy threats across the western border, the Kendra’s stage becomes a mirror of that inner fortitude—where stories of devotion, morality, struggle, and transcendence echo the very spirit that defines India today.
The Festival Line-up: Stories That Speak Across Time
MEERA: Sunday, May 25th, 2025 at 7pm
An embodiment of fearless devotion and unwavering inner strength, Meera brings to life the spiritual odyssey of the poet-saint who defied societal norms in pursuit of divine truth. Through evocative Rajasthani and Gujarati folk movements, this production draws from the meticulous documentation of folklorist Komal Kothari, capturing not just a woman’s voice but a nation’s inner compass—resilience rooted in faith.
PARIKRAMA: Tuesday, May 27th, 2025 at 7pm
Choreographed in the martial and expressive styles of Mayurbhanj Chhau and Kalaripayattu, Parikrama delves into the elemental cycle of existence—life, death, and rebirth—mirroring the nation’s capacity to regenerate with strength after every trial. Inspired by the Panch Tattvas and layered with insights from the Padma Purana, the production is a meditative journey that resonates deeply in times of renewal and reflection.
KARNA: Thursday, May 29th, 2025 at 7pm
A deeply layered portrayal of honour and identity, Karna revisits the life of one of Mahabharata’s most tragic heroes, who struggled between duty, loyalty, and truth. Drawing from Rashmi Rathi by National Poet Ramdhari Singh ‘Dinkar’, and choreographed in the raw intensity of Chhau and Kalaripayattu, Karna finds new resonance today—as it embodies the virtues of courage, sacrifice, and complex morality, qualities India has demonstrated on and off the battlefield.
This edition of the Kendra Dance Festival introduces ticketed entry for the first time, welcoming an evolving audience that includes millennials, urban families, cultural travellers, and arts patrons. This initiative aims to democratise access while reinforcing the value of live performance in an era of fleeting digital content.
The productions are presented by the Kendra Dance Repertory—a professional ensemble of 15 full-time artists trained in SBKK’s distinctive style that fuses Kathak, Bharatanatyam, Odissi, Mayurbhanj Chhau, and various Indian folk forms. Each performance is enhanced by original musical compositions, intricately hand-crafted costumes, vivid set designs, and dramatic lighting—resulting in an immersive theatre experience.
Reflecting on the timing of the festival and its deeper significance, Festival Director and Chairperson Padmashri Shobha Deepak Singh notes:
“There are moments in history when a nation asserts itself—not just through its borders, but through its identity. The recent events have reminded us of the price of freedom and the value of unity. Through Meera, Parikrama, and Karna, we share stories that are rooted in Indian consciousness and resonate with our contemporary challenges. These are not just performances—they are acts of remembrance, strength, and cultural assertion.”
The Director of Shriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra, Shr Jayant Kastuar also shared his views about this year’s festival, “In times when the nation stands united with renewed strength and purpose, stories like Meera, Parikrama, and Karna remind us of the courage, sacrifice, and resilience rooted deep in our soul and culture. These productions are more than performances; they are reflections of the values that bind us and a tribute to the spirit of India rising together.”
Founded by Sumitra Charat Ram in the aftermath of Independence, Shriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra has remained a vital force in Indian arts and education for over seven decades. From hosting the first classical music concert in free India in 1947 to presenting Shri Ram annually since 1957, SBKK has played a pivotal role in shaping India’s cultural landscape. Its body of work includes critically acclaimed productions like Shri Krishna, Abhimanyu, Kamayani, Durga, Khajuraho, and Meera, among others.
Today, under the guidance of Shobha Deepak Singh, the Kendra continues to blend classical wisdom with contemporary relevance—serving as a bridge between generations, values, and artistic expressions.
The Kendra is supported by a wide spectrum of cultural and corporate partners, including:
Ministry of Culture – Government of India, ICCR, Sangeet Natak Akademi, Sahitya Kala Parishad, Hindi Academy, Uttar Pradesh Government, North Zone and North Central Zonal Cultural Centres, as well as corporate patrons such as Shriram Pistons & Rings Ltd., Mawana Sugars, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, DLF Limited, Ayurvet Life Sciences, and more.
SBKK is also accredited by GroupM, the media investment arm of WPP Global, Ministry of Culture and Indian Council For Cultural Relations making it a valuable cultural partner for brands and media platforms committed to social impact and national storytelling.
In the wake of India’s strategic and diplomatic assertion on the global stage, Indian Culture remains one of its most potent forms of soft power. The Kendra Dance Festival is not just a showcase of traditional arts—it is a living demonstration of India’s civilisational voice, which continues to inspire, educate, and unify.
