Palo Alto Networks’ State of Generative AI report: on average, 10% of a company’s 66 GenAI apps are high-risk
Mumbai, India, 25th June 2025 — Palo Alto Networks, the world’s leading AI cybersecurity company, released its State of Generative AI 2025 report, which reveals that on average, 10% of a company’s 66 GenAI apps are high-risk. While AI growth offers significant productivity benefits, the report warns that unsanctioned usage, emerging threats, and a lack of governance have rapidly expanded the attack surface for organisations, particularly across India and the Asia-Pacific region.
India’s 2025 Union Budget demonstrates a strong commitment to advancing Artificial Intelligence (AI), with an allocation of Rs. 500 crores towards the Centre of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence for education. This underscores the country’s ambition to become one of the global leaders in the AI race. While AI is a groundbreaking and transformative technology, it is increasingly being weaponized by threat actors to launch faster, more sophisticated cyber attacks. In this evolving threat landscape, the only effective way to tackle AI-driven attacks is by using AI-driven security systems – essentially fighting AI with AI. This duality highlights the urgency for India to pair AI development with robust cybersecurity preparedness.
“AI adoption offers transformative opportunities across both commercial and government sectors in the region. But as this report highlights, we are also seeing an expanding attack surface, particularly with the use of high-risk GenAI applications in critical infrastructure sectors,” said Tom Scully, Director and Principal Architect for Government and Critical Industries, Asia Pacific & Japan, at Palo Alto Networks. “Organisations must balance innovation with strong governance, adopting security architectures that account for AI’s unique risks. From shadow AI and data leakage to the more complex threats posed by agentic AI models. Proactive oversight and adaptive security controls are essential to ensuring that the benefits of AI are fully realised without compromising national security, public trust, or operational integrity.”
The 2025 State of GenAI report, based on traffic analysis from 7,051 global enterprise customers, provides an in-depth look into how enterprises are adopting GenAI and where they remain most vulnerable.
Key findings of the 2025 GenAI Security Report include:
Rapid adoption rates: There’s been an 890% surge in Generative AI (GenAI) traffic in 2024.
In India: The top 3 most used GenAI apps by volume were Grammarly (32.56%), Microsoft Power Apps (19.98%), and Microsoft Copilot (16.37%)
Risk posture: Globally on average, 10% of a company’s 66 GenAI apps are high-risk
Exponential growth in GenAI adoption: Following the release of DeepSeek-R1 in January 2025, DeepSeek-related traffic alone spiked by 1,800% within two months.
Rising data loss incidents: GenAI-related data loss prevention (DLP) incidents more than doubled over the course of 2025, now accounting for 14% of all data security incidents.
Shadow AI emerges as a key risk: Unauthorised, unsanctioned GenAI use, termed “Shadow AI”, has created blind spots for IT and security teams, making it difficult to control sensitive data flows.
Jailbreaking remains a top concern: Many high-risk AI models remain susceptible to jailbreak attacks that produce unsafe content, including offensive material and instructions for illegal activities.
Industry-specific insights: Globally, technology and manufacturing sectors alone account for 39% of AI coding transactions, creating additional risk for industries that depend on proprietary IPs.
“India is one of GenAI’s biggest adopters and in a country where work happens in multiple languages, at massive scale, it’s no surprise that writing, coding, and conversational AI are leading use cases. But the pace of adoption has outstripped governance.” said Swapna Bapat, Vice President & Managing Director, India and SAARC, Palo Alto Networks. “Many organisations don’t realise just how much GenAI is already embedded in their daily workflows. The priority now isn’t whether to use these tools, it’s how to use AI to secure them without slowing people down.”
The report also offers best practice recommendations for businesses seeking to safely harness the potential of GenAI:
Establish visibility and control: Gain comprehensive oversight of GenAI app usage, implement conditional access policies, and manage permissions at the user and group level.
Safeguard sensitive data: Deploy real-time content inspection with centralised policy enforcement to detect and prevent unauthorised data exfiltration.
Defend against AI-driven threats: Implement Zero Trust security architectures to mitigate modern cyberthreats, malware, and sophisticated AI-powered attacks.
Data for this report was derived from Palo Alto Networks’ analysis of GenAI traffic across a global customer base of 7,051 organisations throughout 2024.

Students Across Delhi NCR Reimagine the Future with Samsung Solve for Tomorrow
GURUGRAM, India, June 25, 2025: Classrooms lit up with curiosity, corridors buzzed with conversations around innovation, and young students stood confidently pitching bold ideas for a better tomorrow. The recent Samsung Solve for Tomorrow roadshows and open houses have been igniting minds across cities, and Delhi NCR was no exception.
Samsung Solve for Tomorrow, launched on April 29, 2025, is more than just a national innovation challenge. It is a call to action for India’s youth — an invitation to step up, identify real-world issues, and build technology-based solutions that can impact lives. The programme equips students with design thinking tools, mentorship from Samsung leaders and IIT Delhi faculty, investor connects, and prototyping support. It also offers INR 1 crore to the top four winning teams.
As part of the outreach, the Samsung team visited Mamta Modern School in Vikaspuri, Kamal Model Sr. Sec. School in Mohan Garden, DAV Sector 14 in Gurgaon, St. Teressa School in Indirapuram, and WCTM Gurgaon. In these open houses, students interacted with programme facilitators, asked questions, explored case studies from previous seasons, and began shaping their own problem statements.
At the New Delhi leg of the roadshow, the excitement was palpable. Students from schools gathered with ideas ranging from AI-based solutions for senior citizen care to sustainable energy innovations and mental health apps tailored for teens.
Among them was Aarna Kaushal, a class 11 student, who has been deeply moved by the sight of overflowing landfills in her city. Inspired by the programme, she’s now working on a smart segregation system for waste collection. “Samsung Solve for Tomorrow made me feel like someone is finally listening to students like us. I’m not just dreaming anymore — I’m planning, researching and designing,” said Aarna.
For Bhumika Rawal, it was the experience of watching kids around her struggle with dyslexia that sparked an idea. “I want to create a voice-based learning app that helps kids learn at their own pace. The roadshow helped me shape that dream into a project,” said Bhumika, her eyes lit with determination.
The energy in these sessions went beyond pitches and prototypes. Students discussed the importance of inclusion, accessibility, climate responsibility, and rural connectivity. They learnt that ideas don’t have to be perfect to be powerful — they just need to be rooted in purpose.
As the Samsung Solve for Tomorrow roadshows continue to travel across India, they’re not just spreading awareness about the programme — they’re awakening a generation of problem-solvers and change-makers.
India is full of young innovators. Samsung is providing them the tools, the platform, and the confidence to build something meaningful.
With open houses like these, Samsung is doing more than scouting for the next big idea — it’s investing in the next generation of changemakers who believe that solving for tomorrow begins today.

Brain Tumours Demystified: Essential Information for Patients and Families
Dr R V RAGHUNANDAN, Senior Consultant – Radiation Oncologist at HCG MNR Curie Cancer Centre at Ongole
The diagnosis of a brain tumour usually triggers significant anxiety in the minds of the patient and the family. Given the brain’s central role in controlling cognition, emotion, and bodily function, this sense of fear is understandable. Yet, it is important to recognise that not all brain tumours carry the same prognosis or treatment implications. Advances in neuro-imaging, surgical techniques, and targeted therapies have significantly improved the outlook for many patients. A nuanced understanding of brain tumours—ranging from benign to malignant forms—is essential to support informed decision-making and reduce unnecessary fear.
Not All Brain Tumours Are the Same
One of the most common misconceptions is the assumption that all brain tumours are aggressive or malignant. In reality, brain tumours comprise a diverse group of conditions, with varying behaviours, prognoses, and treatment approaches.
Some are benign (non-cancerous), such as meningiomas or acoustic neuromas. These grow slowly and may not spread but can still cause symptoms if they press on vital brain structures. Others, like glioblastomas, are malignant and can grow rapidly.
There are also secondary (metastatic) brain tumours, which begin as cancers elsewhere in the body—like the lung, breast, or kidney—and travel to the brain. These are actually more common than primary brain tumours.
Knowing what type of tumour, it is, and where it’s located, determines everything: from symptoms, to treatment, to prognosis.
Symptoms Can Be Subtle—or Sudden
Brain tumours do not always announce themselves dramatically. Patients may present with non-specific symptoms that are frequently attributed to stress or fatigue. Persistent headaches, difficulty concentrating, memory disturbances, and noticeable changes in behaviour or mood are among the early signs that may warrant further neurological evaluation.
Weakness on one side of the body or seizures could possibly be the first sign of a brain tumour. If a person experiences persistent neurological symptom, they definitely deserve attention. While not every neurological problem indicates a tumour, early detection can help keep the body safe.
Imaging Is the Game-Changer
Decades ago, diagnosing a brain tumour relied on intuitive conjecture and invasive tests. Today, advanced tools, such as MRI and CT scans that allow us to see the brain with remarkable clarity. Advanced imaging helps us not only detect tumours but also understand their behaviour—how fast they’re growing, how they’re interacting with brain tissue, and whether they can be surgically removed.
In some cases, a biopsy may still be required to confirm the type of tumour. But increasingly, there is a huge dependence on high-resolution scans and molecular diagnostics, to guide our treatment decisions.
Treatment Is Often Multi-Pronged
Treatment for brain tumours is highly individualized. A young patient with a small, slow-growing tumour may only need monitoring. Another person might need a combination of surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy.
Surgical techniques have also improved vastly. Neuro-navigation systems, real-time brain mapping, and minimally invasive procedures allow us to operate with much greater precision and safety. The aim is not just to remove the tumour, but to preserve as much normal brain function as possible.
When surgery isn’t an option, stereotactic radiosurgery—a focused form of radiation—or targeted drug therapies may be used. The era of “one-size-fits-all” is gone. We now treat tumours based on their genetic profile, behaviour, and the impact on the individual.
It’s Not Just About the Brain—It’s About the Person
One of the most overlooked aspects of brain tumours is the toll they take on personal life. Even a small tumour can affect speech, vision, balance, or personality. That’s why care must extend beyond treating the tumour.
Close collaboration with rehabilitation specialists, psychologists, as well as speech and occupational therapists is an integral part of comprehensive brain tumour care. The goal is not just survival—but the quality of life, post-survival. Helping a patient walk again, regain her voice, or return to work, is just as important as removing a tumour.
Things Patient Should Keep in Mind
When a patient hears the term “brain tumour,” the first reaction is often fear, as it can be difficult to understand. However, knowledge is empowering. One of the most important steps a patient can take is to stay well-informed. Being aware, asking questions, and remaining actively involved with the medical team can make a significant difference.
A brain tumour diagnosis can be overwhelming, but it is important to recognise that significant advancements in medical science have transformed the way these conditions are managed. With improved diagnostic tools, targeted therapies, and multidisciplinary care, outcomes continue to improve and recovery is increasingly achievable. Each case is unique, and treatment plans must be tailored to the specific clinical and biological characteristics of the tumour and the individual.
The presence of persistent neurological symptoms should never be ignored or delayed in evaluation, as timely assessment is critical for accurate diagnosis and effective management. Early evaluation by a specialist can make a significant difference. Remember, knowledge is power—seeking timely medical advice can lead to better outcomes. Reach out to a qualified neurologist or neurosurgeon to discuss your concerns and take the first step towards understanding and managing brain health, with confidence.
