Founded in 2021 by VIT batchmates Aakarsh Nayyar, Anant Ohri, Bhavya Kansal, Konark Gautam, Shreyansh Jain, and Udit Pandoh, Aliste Technologies is addressing the home automation market to make tech-enabled homes within the reach of homeowners and businesses looking to provide an upgraded customer experience and save energy. The brand offers innovative retrofit automation products allowing users to control their existing appliances via an app or voice assistants with a subscription model starting at ₹1 per appliance per day. Their footprint currently spans over 2,500 residential, commercial, and hospitality projects with clients like The Taj group of hotels, Vouchagram India, and Stanza living in their portfolio.

Anant Ohri, Co-founder of Aliste, said, “We see a major gap in the consumer IoT segment in India. As aspirations of working Indians soar, we believe our solution has the ability to not only provide a well-packaged automation solution but also result in energy savings. Aliste’s products are designed with the luxury and convenience of its users in mind while providing 10 – 15% savings on their monthly electricity bills. Our aim is to save electricity worth $1 Million by 2025.”

Commenting on the fundraise, Sunil K. Goyal, Managing Director & Fund Manager, YourNest Venture Capital, said, “Aliste’s innovative low capex and subscription model makes it unique and gives it the capability to scale at a rapid pace by targeting young adults in the expanding high-income and upper/middle-income demographics across India. The founding team has already been solving this problem for the last three years since their final year of college and has the motivation and energy to create a large global organization.”

Aliste Founders-L-R Shreyansh Jain, Konark Gautam, Aakarsh Nayyar, Anant Ohri, Udit Pandoh, Bhavya Kansal

Anirudh A. Damani, Managing Partner at Artha Venture Fund, adds, “We see unprecedented growth in the automation market from different angles. In the last 5 – 7 years, Indian consumers have warmed up to subscription-based services. Aliste has been able to tap into this changing consumer behavior and has also managed to keep it affordable. Even on the B2B side, as more Indians resume travel, they expect a high-end experience from the hospitality sector, and hotel chains are well aware of this changing scenario. The surging demand for automation in residential and B2B channels and Aliste’s approach to leveraging the market opportunity with a subscription-led model prompted us to invest in the company.”

Ninad Karpe, Partner, 100X.VC, said, “The home automation industry is a rising sector in India. Aliste Technologies has carved a niche for itself with its innovative subscription-based model in this market. The company has achieved the unimaginable by introducing home tech that is not only convenient but also affordable for customers. We are happy to be a part of their progressive journey and are looking forward to extending our support in all ways possible.”

High capex is one of the biggest reasons why smart home adoption in India remains one of the lowest in the world. With sub-1% adoption of smart homes in India, Aliste Technologies is addressing an enormous market opportunity while making home automation affordable and accessible. At a subscription cost of just ₹1 per appliance per day, a typical 3 BHK can now get automated at just ~₹ 500 per month, compared to a conventional automation route requiring homeowners to shell out upwards of ₹ 1 lakh in a single go.

Aliste Technologies is showing phenomenal growth owing to its subscription-based model for its customers. It has a strong presence in the Delhi-NCR region and has recently entered the Bangalore market. With the freshly infused capital, the company intends to spread its footprints pan-India and boost brand awareness initiatives.

Indian Organizations Say Hybrid Cloud Approach is Critical to Unlock the Power of Generative AI: IBM Report

Bengaluru, India, December 13th, 2023 — A new global survey from IBM (NYSE: IBM) revealed that in India, 64% of hybrid cloud users have a formal, organization-wide policy and/or approach for the use of Generative AI (GenAI). However, barriers that once slowed down hybrid cloud adoption are now impeding the implementation of GenAI. Cloud leaders are concerned about the challenges associated with the privacy and confidentiality of data and information when adopting GenAI. In addition to the ability to unlock the power of generative AI being cited as one of the key benefits of a hybrid cloud approach, leaders agreed that a cloud environment is essential for managing sustainability initiatives at an enterprise level, but workforce deficiencies in cloud skills are impacting implementation.

The IBM Cloud Transformation Report 2023 commissioned by the IBM Institute for Business Value and conducted by independent research firm, The Harris Poll, was created to help organizations map their cloud transformation and empower them to self-classify their progress. Built on a foundation that leverages insights from experienced cloud professionals, enterprises can use the Index to gain measurable metrics that can help quantify their progress and uncover areas of opportunity and growth. Over 3,000 IT and business decision-makers in 12 countries and across 23 industries were surveyed.

“As GenAI gains momentum in India, organizations need to harness the power of a robust hybrid cloud approach to tackle challenges that are coming to the forefront. Investing in the right cloud technologies and tools will help businesses tackle increasing security and compliance concerns and deliver on their sustainability goals,” says Viswanath Ramaswamy, Vice President – Technology, IBM India & South Asia. “As evidenced by the report, hybrid cloud models aided by the right talent capabilities will play a huge role in shaping the success of business transformation initiatives. It is heartening to see that about 85% of respondents have said they are creating new job positions to fulfill the need for cloud skills in this Generative AI era.”

The IBM Cloud Transformation Report 2023 – India Findings

Need for Cloud Skills Takes Center Stage

In India, on average 68% of the business leaders surveyed agreed that lack of cloud skills remains a considerable challenge in their digital transformation journeys, which is higher than the global average of 58% – ranking second to only Japan (75%). However, the strong intent of Indian businesses to overcome this obstacle to innovation is becoming evident – about 85% of the surveyed organizations said they have created new positions to fulfill the need for cloud skills. Indian organizations are leading the efforts to close the skills gap, followed by those surveyed in the United States of America (80%), United Kingdom (77%), Germany (72%), Spain (72%) and Australia (70%).

Security and Compliance Concerns Slowing Down GenAI Adoption

As businesses ramp up digital transformation efforts in a rapidly evolving cyber threat landscape and strive to remain compliant with cybersecurity laws, they are also concerned about the exposure of sensitive data. In India, about 36% of cloud leaders expressed concern about cybersecurity or the privacy and confidentiality of data and information when adopting GenAI. In fact, 60% of cloud leaders cite security and compliance as reasons for moving certain workloads from public clouds to private clouds or on-premises data centers, which represents an increase of 18% from the previous year.

Leveraging the Cloud for Sustainability Initiatives

As the adoption of GenAI grows, the data processing power required for AI workloads can present new challenges to organizations that are looking to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. Using the right tools for tracking, managing, and reporting on sustainable goals – including for partners and third parties – has never been more important. In fact, 43% of decision-makers surveyed in India agreed that they use the cloud to help deploy, track, and manage sustainability goals internally, while 44% say they use the cloud to help deploy, track, and manage sustainability goals for third parties.

Organizations surveyed recognize the role that strong technology partnerships play in helping them achieve their sustainability goals. About 92% of the organizations surveyed in India agree that open innovation with business partners is the biggest driver for sustainability initiatives – with India ranking the highest of all countries surveyed alongside Brazil.

Methodology:

The “Cloud Transformation Report,” is a new global survey from the IBM Institute for Business Value (IBV). Survey data was collected online from 3,018 IT and business decision-makers in 12 countries and across 23 industries by The Harris Poll on behalf of IBM and the IBM Institute for Business Value (IBV) in May/June 2023. Industries included financial services, manufacturing, government, telecommunications, and healthcare, to understand where organizations are advancing, or merely emerging, on their transformation journeys.

LG Electronics joined forces with Traffic Police to make a significant impact on road safety

13th December 2023 – LG Electronics, India’s leading consumer durable brand, has partnered with Traffic Police and SHARE (NGO) to promote traffic safety and raise awareness. Throughout the month of November, LG Electronics was committed to spreading the importance of following traffic rules and regulations in Gautam Budh Nagar. LG has covered 25 areas in GB Nagar and elevated the awareness of over 2000 people.

Recognizing the alarming statistics that reveal 80 out of 100 deaths are attributed to road accidents, as part of this initiative, local traffic police officers highlighted the responsible behaviour of drivers to decrease the instances of road accidents and enhance regional road safety. The campaign aimed to reduce road accidents and improve overall road safety in the region.

Traffic Awareness Month 1

An innovative element of this campaign involved the incorporation of a brief street performance showcasing two characters, Yamraaj and Yamdoot, that creatively discussed the effects of disregarding traffic rules. Through the use of humour and relatable scenarios, the play aimed to capture the public’s attention and emphasize the importance of responsible driving habits.

Commenting on the initiative, Mr. Hong Ju Jeon, MD- LG India said, “At LG Electronics, we advocate for a culture centered on responsibility and awareness that goes beyond simply adhering to traffic regulations. Our partnership with Traffic Police demonstrates our dedication to fostering an elevated awareness of how responsible road behaviour significantly influences the overall well-being of our community. Traffic Awareness Month 2

Mr. Shyamjeet Singh, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic), expressed his support for the initiative, stating, “Advocating for traffic safety is a shared obligation, and endeavours such as these by LG Electronics, play a pivotal role in fostering awareness. We urge everyone to prioritize road safety, adhere to traffic regulations, and actively contribute to the overall safety of our roads.”

This initiative highlights LG’s pledge to support local communities. Previously, to promote sustainable innovation through its green products, LG created a model roundabout for environment protection near LG’s factory in Greater Noida and conducted sensitization programmes like street plays to urge people to follow traffic rules to stay protected.

P&G India Implements Tech-Enabled Digital Remedial Learning Program in Tribal Communities To Bridge Learning Gaps in Children

National, December 13, 2023: Procter & Gamble India (P&G India), makers of brands like Whisper, Tide, Gillette, etc. today announced that as part of its flagship Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program P&G Shiksha, it is equipping nearly 80 government schools located in tribal communities across Maharashtra and Telangana with ‘Mindspark’ – an artificial intelligence-enabled remedial learning tool, to help bridge learning gaps in underprivileged children. The tool integrates pedagogy, teacher instruction, and a learning management system to assess a student’s learning level and develop a customized learning path for each one of them.

P&G Shiksha is setting up the unique ‘P&G Shiksha Mindspark Labs’ with its implementing partner Educational Initiatives (EI) and State Government Bodies, to empower tribal students in remote and underserved areas of Maharashtra and Telangana through access to quality education in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDG 4).

Studies indicate that students in schools often fall behind in keeping pace with their classes, developing a gap in the fundamental conceptual understanding. When the child falls behind and the current learning level is not in line with the expected learning level as per the defined curriculum, a learning gap gets created. If not addressed, this can lead to a lack of adequate education or even dropouts. P&G Shiksha focuses on improving learning outcomes as part of its 360-degree holistic educational interventions, in line with the Government’s Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan.

P&G India Implements Tech-Enabled Digital Remedial Learning Program in Tribal Communities To Bridge Learning Gaps in Children 1

As part of this, it is implementing unique and innovative programs like ‘Mindspark’ to minimize learning gaps and improve learning outcomes in children. The ‘Mindspark’ program is implemented in partnership with Education Initiatives, and the respective State Governments. The State Governments provide the Infrastructure in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) to government schools, which is thereafter equipped with the Mindspark tool by P&G Shiksha and Educational Initiatives, to create a customized learning path for every child, as per their unique pace and journey of learning.

Following the International Volunteer Day, LV Vaidyanathan, CEO, of P&G India inaugurated one such ‘Model P&G Shiksha Mindspark Lab’ at the Government Ashram School in Bhinar, near Thane in Maharashtra, in the presence of senior officials from P&G and EI. During the inauguration celebrations, P&G India, and EI, recognized and felicitated academically top-performing students, while employees of P&G India also volunteered their time towards organizing engaging activities for the children where they answered the curious minds of the students and shared their life journeys with them.

LV Vaidyanathan, CEO, P&G India said, “We truly believe that the most meaningful way of doing business is to improve lives, be it through our superior portfolio of daily use products, or by creating a positive impact for the communities we operate in. Through P&G Shiksha, we have made a longstanding commitment to education, which is also our way of contributing to the social development of the country. In line with this, P&G Shiksha has embarked on a mission to empower children and enable them to improve their learning outcomes via Mindspark. We do this in partnership with EI, curating a model that is not only replicable and scalable but, most importantly, delivers results.”

P&G India Implements Tech-Enabled Digital Remedial Learning Program in Tribal Communities To Bridge Learning Gaps in Children 2

He further added, “The recent International Volunteer Day celebrations emphasize upon our belief of leaving no child behind and reaffirms education’s role as an enabler for the next generation’s brighter future. We seek to ensure that children from underserved communities also have access to tools and resources that can help them make the most of education and stay at par, or better even, excel. By working together, we aim to empower tribal communities and contribute to their holistic and sustainable development in the long run.”

Pranav Kothari, CEO, of Educational Initiatives said, “We are delighted to bring ‘Mindspark’ to the tribal communities of the country together with our longstanding partner P&G Shiksha. Tribal communities face unique challenges and disparities in their journey toward education and holistic development given the balance between traditions and modern needs. Tribal schools are located in remote regions where access to quality education is plagued by a lack of infrastructure, and inadequate resources and teachers who may not know the tribal language or culture. In this context, it is imperative to drive interventions that can provide tailored assistance to individual children, fostering an environment where children receive personalized learning experiences and study meaningfully within their linguistic and cultural contexts. The ‘Model P&G Shiksha Mindspark Lab’ is an intervention that aims to deliver on this very need.”

Providing early-age education through technology equips children to pursue their career aspirations upon graduation, significantly reducing the likelihood of school dropout. This approach substantially enhances their employability prospects, leading to a multitude of positive life outcomes. The initiative envisions a future where tribal communities experience improved education, enhanced quality of life, economic sustainability, cultural preservation, and increased social inclusion. Through the collective efforts of P&G Shiksha and Ei Mindspark, the initiative aims to empower tribal communities and contribute to their holistic and sustainable development in the long run.

Through P&G Shiksha, P&G India has been working to provide access to education to underprivileged children since 2005, impacting over 35 lakh children in doing so. P&G Shiksha and Educational Initiatives piloted the ‘Digital Remedial Learning Program’ in 2017, by equipping over 30 schools with Mindspark. Producing significant outcomes over the years, the Program now benefits over 75,000 children across hundreds of schools in the country, including more than 20,000 students from the tribal communities.

Air India Unveils Fashion-Forward Crew Uniforms To Mark The Arrival Of A New Era In Inflight Couture

Bangalore, 13 December 2023: Air India, India’s leading global airline, today unveiled its much anticipated, brand-new collection of uniforms for cabin and cockpit crew, marking the arrival of a new age of inflight couture.

Crafted by Indian celebrity couturier, Manish Malhotra, in his Mumbai atelier, the new uniforms feature an array of colours and timeless designs. The collection mirrors a rare, harmonious blend of rich Indian heritage and aesthetics with 21st-century style, elegance, and comfort.

The new uniforms will be introduced in a phased manner over the next few months, starting with the entry of service of Air India’s first Airbus A350.

Campbell Wilson, Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director, Air India, said: “Air India’s crew uniforms are amongst the world’s most storied in aviation history, and we firmly believe that Manish Malhotra’s innovative ensemble will script an exciting new chapter for Air India’s future narrative. It perfectly captures the essence of our new identity, service principles, and our pursuit of setting new benchmarks in global aviation.”

Malhotra’s take on modern Indian style complements Air India’s recently unveiled new global brand identity as the flag-bearer of a more confident, progressive, and resurgent new India.

The female cabin crew attire features a ready-to-wear ombré saree with intricate patterns reminiscent of Indian heritage architecture (jharokha) and the Vista (new Air India logo icon), paired with a comfortable blouse and blazer. The ready-to-wear sarees can be optionally worn with comfortable pants, which provides greater flexibility to the female cabin crew to choose the style they most identify with and brings a unique East-meets-West look.

The ombré sarees for the senior female cabin crew will be aubergine-to-burgundy, combined with aubergine blazers, exuding a balance of authority and sophistication. Conversely, the junior female cabin crew will wear vibrant red-to-purple ombré sarees combined with red blazers, embodying youthfulness and energy.

Manish Malhotra said: “I am honored to have been given the opportunity to design the uniforms for Air India. It is a privilege to be able to contribute to the national flag-bearer and showcase the elegance and charm of Indian fashion. My aim was to create uniforms that capture the essence of India’s diverse culture and traditions while also embodying a modern and sophisticated look. By incorporating quintessential hues that are symbolic to India, I hope that these uniforms not only make the crew feel proud but also leave a lasting impression on the guests, representing the warmth and hospitality that India is known for.

The hallmark technique of ombrés is a signature attributed to Malhotra, reflecting his deep-rooted fondness for traditional attire and gradients. The color palette of the new uniforms comprises deep red, burgundy, aubergine, and accents of gold, paying homage to India’s rich cultural heritage.

The well-fitting uniforms for both male and female cabin crew are practical and suited for them to perform in-flight duties with ease of movement. The new uniform designs were developed in close consultation with Air India’s cabin crew representatives and the airline’s In-flight Services team, who also conducted an extensive testing exercise for the new designs.

The cockpit crew’s uniform features a classic black double-breasted suit with a print inspired by the Vista, signifying professionalism, timelessness, and the gravitas of the flying profession.

Malhotra has also curated footwear that blends style and comfort, allowing each step to resonate with the grace and poise inherent in Air India’s sartorial overhaul. The female cabin crew will wear dual-tone (black and burgundy) block heels, and the male cabin crew will wear comfortable black Brogues. The uniforms include pearl earrings and sling bags for female cabin crew.

“Air India has been in the world’s spotlight for some time. We are confident that our new crew uniforms will rise to the heightened expectations, distinctly making a statement that defines the very best of Indian heritage and hospitality. Travellers across continents will be able to instantly recognise these uniforms as the new Air India,” Campbell Wilson said.

Malhotra has meticulously crafted uniforms not only for Air India’s cabin crew and pilots, but also for ground staff, engineers, and security personnel, which will be revealed in due course.

Sustainability and quality have been the cornerstones of the design and production process of these new uniforms. All fabrics and garments are proudly sourced and tailored in India.

Quote from Mr. Sachin Kothari, Director at Augmont Gold For All on Sovereign Gold Bond (SGB)

Quote:
For a better risk-adjusted return, investors should always allocate at least 15% of their portfolio to gold. The best option to invest in gold in India for the long term is through Sovereign Gold Bond (SGB). The RBI issues the SGB on behalf of the Government of India, and the Sovereign Gold Bond Scheme has an eight-year term. However, after the fifth year from the date of the issue of coupon payment dates, a premature withdrawal is permissible. Other than gold price appreciation, investors receive an additional 2.5% interest on SGB semiannually. The first tranche of SGB, which matured on November 30, 2023, gave a whopping 150% return to the investors, who held it till the maturity of eight years. Similar kinds of returns could be expected in investments through other tranches too, as gold is an eternal bull market.
